Is Bratislava, Slovakia Worth Visiting?
Is Bratislava, Slovakia worth visiting? I had no idea what to expect but within five minutes of arriving I knew this was going to be good. This European capital city really charmed me and it's well worth visiting. It’s a one hour drive from Vienna, Austria, which makes a perfect day trip. If you can spend a bit more time, even better.
How much is it to stay in Bratislava? Tour my Airbnb:
Visit the Bratislava Christmas Market with me:
The first thing I saw was the SNP Bridge or, as locals call it, the UFO Bridge which crosses the Danube River. SNP stands for Slovak National Uprising but the nickname comes from the flying saucer shaped restaurant that sits at the top of the bridge pylon. Unfortunately, the construction of the bridge meant that a large portion of the beautiful Old Town was destroyed, including almost the entire Jewish quarter.
St. Martin’s Cathedral, one of the city’s most historically important buildings, narrowly missed the bridge construction. The access ramp for the bridge is extremely close to it and the church is actually sustaining damage due to all the vibrations from the busy traffic. The cathedral was where Hungarian kings (and one queen!) were crowned for hundreds of years. Leaders of the Habsburg Empire, including the one and only Maria Theresa, had their coronations there between 1563 and 1830. There’s a crown at the top of the steeple sitting on a golden pillow which gives a hint of how significant this place is. On the sidewalk below there are little crown symbols that show the coronation procession route taken by royals on their way to St. Martin’s. You can follow them through the town, if you’d like to walk in their footsteps.
The best view of the cathedral is from Bratislava Castle which sits above the city. The hill has been populated since the Stone Age and the first known inhabitants were the Celts. There are a bunch of stairs to reach the castle but it’s well worth it. I love the crisp white colour of the castle with its four towers. I think it’s the best spot to see the sunset because the warm light at dusk is beautiful.
Michael’s Gate is the only surviving gate to the old city. There used to be four city gates and they were the only way in and out during medieval times. Michael’s Gate was built in the 13th century and in the 17th century a moat was added complete with a draw bridge that went up and down.
Nearby Michael’s Gate is Executioner Alley. It’s where the town executioner used to live and, because the city only had one, his house had to be clearly marked for anyone, um, needing him. The residence is now a massage centre which I found pretty funny.
If you’re in need of good luck there are some statues in Bratislava you can touch. One is of a man standing in a gutter at an intersection called ‘The Watcher.’ It’s considered good luck to touch his head. If you still need more luck, head over to the statue of Hans Christian Andersen and rub his finger. He visited Bratislava and it even inspired some of his writing.
One of my favourite spots in Bratislava is the Church of St. Elizabeth of Hungary or, as it’s better known, the Blue Church. Everything from the façade to the mosaic tiles to the roof is blue. Inside the art nouveau building even the pews are blue. This church is a really popular spot to get married and it takes years to get a booking.
A building that has been given the honour of being one of the ugliest in the world is also found in Bratislava: the Slovak Radio Building. This inverted pyramid is an excellent example of Brutalist architecture from the Communist era in Slovakia. Whether you love it or hate it, I doubt you’ll forget it.
We did a great free walking tour which I can highly recommend. If you’re interested, this is the company:

Bratislava- A Hiden Myths | 48 Giờ ở Bratislava- Tập1 | Chuyện của Nick | Châu Âu du hí
Bratislava, with its compact old town, charming city streets, and outdoor café culture, is a wonderful place to visit. This city may not be as popular as other central European cities such as Vienna or Prague, but don’t let that fool you. Bratislava is underrated as a European destination, as we just learned.
If you are visiting Europe during the busy fall months and want a break from the crowds of the more popular cities, put Bratislava on your list. Even in mid-oct, its streets felt less crowded and we never waited in line for anything. It was a very refreshing experience.
So, if you are looking for a very cool European city but want a quieter experience, Bratislava is well worth the visit!

Our visit Hvar travel guide documentary covers some of the top attractions including a food guide (Croatian), top sightseeing tourist attractions and the city by day including visiting churches, parks, the old town, quirky neighborhoods, fortresses, museums, observation points, ruins and the harbor. We also cover off-the-beaten-path outdoor activities you won't find in a typical Hvar tourism brochure, Hvar itinerary or Hvar, Croatia city tour also known as Grad Hvar, Hrvatska (Lesina).
10 Things to do in Hvar, Croatia Travel Guide Video Transcript:
We have finally made it to one of my dream destinations. We're in Hvar, Croatia so and oh my it is beautiful. Today we have blue skies so we're just going to run around like crazy to show you guys Hvar.
As you probably already know, we never start sightseeing without a good meal, so the first item on our list was to find some breakfast. This proved to be a little tricky considering we were visiting during low season, but after a few false starts we settled down at BB Club for shakshuka, omelettes, nutella crepes and cappuccinos.
With bellies full, we were ready explore and our eyes were set on the fortress, which is the focal point when you gaze up from the Old Town.
Reaching the fortress means walking straight uphill, but there are a few scenic stops along the way, including a beautiful park, a seemingly abandoned church, and plenty of lookouts where you can admire the town and the harbour.
After visiting the fort, we came back to the Old Town and decided to go on a little walk along the waterfront. We hadn’t packed any bathing suits and it was too late in the season to go for a swim, but Audrey was set on testing out the turquoise waters.
Continuing our wander through Hvar Town without a particular place or direction in mind, we then came across a medieval Venetian bell tower that we had noticed peeking through the buildings. The bell tower is part of the Ruins of the Dominican Monastery and St. Mark's Church, and while the structure is closed off, it’s still a cool landmark to visit.
We went to KOGO which is located in the main square just footsteps from St. Stephen’s Cathedral. They specialize in pizzas and pastas, and everything was so tasty!
Lastly, to finish up our 1-day tour of Hvar Town, we walked back to the marina, this time heading left in the direction of the Franciscan Monastery, where we were treated to a magical sunset complete with live music.

Bentley Continental
Bentley emprestará o powertrain híbrido plug-in do Porsche Cayenne S E-Hybrid .
CONTINENTAL GT3-R
Inspirado na trilha, Made for the Road
Desempenho extremo
Assentos esportivos, estilo Bentley

???????? Hiking, photo and video session in the mountains above the Cazanele Dunării (Danube's Cauldrons), the beautiful Danube's canyon, near Orșova, Romania, at the border with Serbia. I was in an area that is not hard to reach and it is an interesting place to go for fun and taking pictures, within easy reach from the road (20-30 minutes of hiking, through the woods, not so steep).
The name of Danube Cauldrons comes from the past when the waters seemed to boil when passing the canyon. After The Iron Gates water power plant was build in 1968, the level of the water rised but still the curents are strong.

The Informals / Неформалы (interview)
28/06/2019
A4 Priestor súčasnej kultúry
The Informals / Неформалы (AV performance)
Tvorcov audiovizuálnej performance The Informals / Неформалы sme vyspovedali počas ich júnového vystúpenia v A4. V Bratislave preskúmali aj opustené budovy - urbex s miestnymi digitálnymi domorodcami, čím vytvorili paralelu k ich tvorbe.
Audiovizuálna performance The Informals / Неформалы je sčasti autobiografické dielo, sčasti univerzálne vyhlásenie o nekonformných spôsoboch života v digitálnom veku. Polina Medvedeva a Andreas Kühne skúmajú improvizačné techniky v médiu live dokumentárneho filmu o mladých „digital natives“ v Murmansku. Aby unikli normám a sociálnym konštruktom severného Ruska, miestni mládežníci obsadzujú opustené priestory, kde zažívajú spoločné improvizačné happeningy. Medvedeva a Kühne cestovali do oblasti bývalej vojenskej základne a prostredníctvom dokumentácie a improvizácie ju dočasne prenesú do súčasnosti.
V rámci projektu medzinárodnej spolupráce Re-Imagine Europe, spolufinancovaného EU programom Kreatívna Európa a z verejných zdrojov podporil Fond na podporu umenia.
/////////////////////////////////////////////
We interviewed the creators of the audiovisual performance The Informals / Неформалы during their June performance in A4. They explored abandoned buildings - urbex in Bratislava with the local digital natives, as a parallel to their research in Russia.
The Informals / Неформалы is partly an autobiographical work, partly a universal statement on the notions of decentralisation, collectivism, and non-conformist ways of living in the digital age. Polina Medvedeva and Andreas Kühne research improvisational techniques in the medium of documentary. Their methodology resembles the patterns of the ‘digital natives’ of Murmansk. In order to escape the norms and social constructs of the North of Russia, young people in Murmansk gravitate to deserted spaces in their area, where they collectively improvise with space, adding a new layer to its genealogy. Medvedeva and Kühne traveled back to the former military zone where Medvedeva was born and through documentation and field improvisation – much like the youths of the Murmansk region – temporarily transferred it into the present. The data they have collected is divided into elements and prepared for live triggering and processing. It resembles an audiovisual instrument which, when played by the artist duo, produces new unscripted versions with each live performance. The piece has been commissioned by Sonic Acts and Inversia Festival, Murmansk.
Produced by A4 as a part of a project of international cooperation Re-Imagine Europe, co-financed by the program of EU Creative Europe and supported using public funding by Slovak Arts Council.
