Sister Anna Matikova, FSP, from the Daughters of Saint Paul, shares her experiences as a young girl growing up in a socialist world, surrounded by a militant atheist society. There was a significant contrast in regards to the endurance of Christian faith between the Slovak region and the Czech territory. In the midst of religious discrimination and sometimes persecution, Sister Anna´s vocation bloomed. In this program she was interviewed by Jonas Soto.

Ss. Cyril and Methodism Cathedral (Operation Anthropoid)
From Wikipedia
The Ss. Cyril and Methodius Cathedral in the New Town of Prague, Czech Republic, is the principal church in the Orthodox Church of the Czech Lands and Slovakia.
The existing structure had its origins as a Roman Catholic church built between 1730 and 1736 by Kilian Ignaz Dientzenhofer, dedicated to Charles Borromeo, archbishop and cardinal of Milan in the 16th century.
In 1942, during World War II, the cathedral was the scene of the last stand of a number of Czech and Slovak patriots who, in Operation Anthropoid, had assassinated Reinhard Heydrich, the Nazi SS Obergruppenführer and General of Police. Karl Fischer von Treuenfeld was in command of the troops that stormed the church on 18 June 1942. After a fierce gun battle, they committed suicide to avoid capture.[
Presently there is a museum in the church crypt dedicated to them as national heroes.

Crypt of the Orthodox Church of St. Cyril & Methodius | Prague | OTIS MCDONALD MUSIC

Title of Song: NOT FOR NOTHING
In May 1942, two Czechoslovak paratroopers sent by the government in exile in London carried out the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich, the Bohemian puppet state's Nazi overseer.
The paratroopers, along with several partisans who assisted in the plot, fled to the crypt of the Orthodox Church of St. Cyril and Methodius.
Another partisan however betrayed them to the Germans, who tried first of all to shoot their way into the crypt, then to flush the men out with water.
Sadly, on realising there was no escape, the resistance fighters committed suicide.
The dramatic story is retold in the crypt of the church where the events took place, entitled the National Memorial to the Heroes of the Heydrich Terror.
Photos from the period and explanations recount an event which is heroic, sad, and at the same time, frustrating.
The Heydrich assassination led to hundreds of innocent people, including almost the entire village of Lidice, paying with their lives.
The museum also tells the wider story of Czech people who resisted Nazi occupation.

The German visitor to Cyril and Methodius Church who said “I took part in siege”
Prague’s Church of Ss. Cyril and Methodius was where the heroes of Operation Anthropoid met their deaths on June 18, 1942, weeks after the daring assassination of Nazi governor Reinhard Heydrich. Today the church houses a museum that draws annually thousands of people from around the world and Orthodox priest Václav Ježek, who ministers there, recalled an unusual visitor – a German man who had himself operated a machine gun firing into the church during a massive Nazi siege.

Orthodox Archbishop of Preshov visits Moscow Patriarchate
His Beatitude Orthodox Archbishop of Preshov and Czech and Slovak lands Rastislav, the primate of the Orthodox Church of Czech and Slovak lands, has visited Moscow Patriarchate.
The history of the Church of Prague is very interesting. After the fail of Vatican I, many Czech and Slovak Roman-Catholics have realized how foreign are the teachings of Vatican to the Apostolic Orthodox faith, and have decided to return to the path of Slavic Apostles st. Cyril and st. Methodius who had started Orthodox Church in Moravia (Today's Czech land and Slovakia). Many Czech and Slovak Roman-Catholics asked the Orthodox Church to embrace them as now Orthodox Christians, today more than 100 000 Czech and Slovak People are members of the Orthodox Church of Presov.

What’s Inside This Abandoned Church Will Haunt You Forever. OMG… So Creepy.
There are a lot of spooky places all over the world, from places that have been abandoned and left to nature or places that had to be abandoned due to a natural disaster. No matter the reason of the abandonment, it seems like these places eventually become very spooky and rumors of being haunted start to run rampant. That’s what brings us to a church in the Czech Republic called St. George’s Church. It was built in the 1300s and has a lot of history within those walls. That’s what makes this story even better!
St. George’s Church can be found in the Czech Republic in a village named Lukova. It was built in 1352 and remained in use until 1968 when the ceiling collapsed during a funeral service.
Church Manager, Petr Koukl, 59, says, “Foreigners are particularly interested in the church and there have been many visitors from Germany, the UK, Australia, and even Brazil. It is a beautiful building with original pillars from the 14th century.”
When the ceiling came crashing down, residents of Lukova decided this was an omen, and decided to abandon the building completely.
They continued to do their sermons and ceremonies outside, but the church was not to be used because of the condition.
That’s where Czech artist Jakup Hadrava comes into play, four decades later. He was asked to help remodel this church to help attract visitors. Part of their goal was for Hadrava to help when it came to increasing the donations as well.
Hadrava focused on the pews and aisles, as he felt this would attract the most visitors.
He started by adding creepy art that showcases hooded ghostly figures, sitting throughout the pews and standing inside of the room.
Hadrava said, “I wanted to make the church more attractive for visitors and try to raise some money for renovation work.”
He continues, “The figures represent the ghosts of Sudeten Germans who lived in Lukova before World War II and who came to pray at this church every Sunday.
“I hope to show the world that this place had a past and it was a normal part of everyday life, but that fate was a huge influence in our lives,” Hadrava finishes.
He constructed each ghost from plaster and displays them throughout the room.
Now that the art has been added to the building, the amount of visitors they have receive has increased. There are thousands of people who visit each year, and because of this they have been able to raise money to get a lot of repair work done inside St. George’s Church.
One visitor named Radomir Sedlacek said, “It’s certainly hair-raising, lets hope it will continue to be cash-raising too.” It’s amazing the impact that a little bit of art can have on not only a building, but a community as well.
