Everglades National Park, Florida - Flamingo Visitor Center HD (2016)
Everglades National Park is a U.S. National Park in Florida that protects the southern 20 percent of the original Everglades. In the United States, it is the largest tropical wilderness, the largest wilderness of any kind east of the Mississippi River, and is visited on average by one million people each year. It is the third-largest national park in the lower 48 states after Death Valley and Yellowstone. It has been declared an International Biosphere Reserve, a World Heritage Site, and a Wetland of International Importance, one of only three locations in the world to appear on all three lists.

Eco Pond, Flamingo, Everglades National park, Florida, United States 2002 - bird watching, marina shore, before hurricane Katrina.
One of the perennial destinations for birding in Everglades National Park, Eco Pond sits near the end of the Main Park Road in Flamingo. During the 2005 hurricanes, a wave of salt water washed across the landscape, changing the pond’s salinity, affecting the wildlife living there. This loop still provides excellent birdwatching and wildlife sightings, but birds no longer blot out the sky while they jostle for a roost at dusk.

Everglades National Park, FL - Flamingo Campground
Join us as we take a trip to the Everglades National Park in south Florida. This was our first National Park stay and we absolutely loved it! This mysterious, uncharted wilderness is so appealing! Between the marshes, prairies, and forests, we were able to encounter birds, fish, mosquitoes, manatees, turtles, crocodiles, and more! We enjoyed our stay at Flamingo Campground and would highly recommend it for those interested in staying during the winter months as we did!
Have you ever stayed at Flamingo? How about other areas of the Everglades? Boating seems like a wonderful way to see even the most secluded areas of the Everglades! Would you agree?

Shark Valley Tram Tour - Alligators All Around! - Everglades National Park, Florida
Our little junior rangers were eager to check out Everglades National Park. We visited the Shark Valley Visitor Center and took the tram tour. Park guests could also walk or bike ride the 17 mile trail to the tower, but the tram was the perfect way for us to explore. Along the way, guides shared information about the history, wildlife and landscape of this beautiful national park. We spotted well over 100 alligators in total on this day of exploring!

13 Everglades - Tin Tent Camping Tour of America's National Parks
This video series chronicles Bill & Sandy Stine's six-month long, 2003, US camping tour.
The Everglades are way unlike any other National park. This subtropical wilderness is a fascinating place. It was unfortunate that damage from hurricanes Katrina and Wilma so damaged the park's Flamingo Visitor Center and its trails. We were fortunate, however, that we hit the park during the dry season when the wildlife concentrate in smaller, wet areas where we could see them. Sadly, and like so many ecosystems, the Everglades is in great danger, in this case due to water being drawn off for agriculture and the myriad of housing developments in that part of the state.
We pulled our hard-sided, Aliner-brand pop-up camper, that we call our Tin Tent, on a 180-day, 100-campground tour of many of the national parks across the US.
The entire 15-video series, while briefly describing the camper in chapter 2, is mainly about the places we visited and the things we did. Our full daily activity log with additional photos can be found under the Tin Tent Tour link on our home page at
All the photos were taken by a humble little Canon PowerShot S410 Digital Elph. Photos were edited using PaintShop Pro 7. Audio was recorded and edited using Roxio Sound Editor and the video was assembled in 9:16, 720p, using Roxio VideoWave 10.

Canoeing and camping Everglades National Park, Turner River, Sunday Bay & Pavillion key December 22-24,2007
Everglades National Park Canoe trip Dec 22-24th 2007. Started at Tuner River off Route 41 to Sunday Bay Chickee to Pavillion Key and ending at Chokoloskee, FL. 36 Miles 3 days
Everglades National Park
The first half of our trip to Everglades National Park where we camped at the campgrounds at Flamingo and took the Back Country Boat Tour. This allowed us to see alligators and crocodiles moments apart in the same habitat . Yoly and I also explored most of the marked trails and turn-outs which gave us views of some of the wetland bird species including several Osprey Eagles.
At the End of the Road: Flamingo
Flamingo is a special place in Everglades National Park where mainland habitats merge with the waters of Florida Bay. This is 55 miles southwest of Miami and a world away from busy city life. Flamingo is the jumping off point for recreation like world-class fishing, birding, canoeing, boat tours, camping and hiking.
