Arriving at London Heathrow Terminal 5 - London Heathrow Airport in the United Kingdom
Arriving at London Heathrow Airport (LHR). If this is your first visit to London Heathrow Terminal 5 you should find this video helpful for getting an idea of the airport procedures when you arrive at London Heathrow Airport in the United Kingdom. This London Heathrow Airport footage is filmed from the disembarkation of our flight (a British Airways flight from Copenhagen), through the walk to arrivals area where we eventually purchase our London Underground rail tickets to London.
Our walk begins where we have just disembarked our plane and are walking through Heathrow Airport´s Terminal 5 towards Immigration / Passport Control. To get to the Heathrow Immigration / Passport Control area we take an Airport Train Shuttle. The Passport Control process at Heathrow Airport was very quick as we used the automated Passport scanner (we are EU citizens). After clearing Immigration we start to make our way to the Heathrow Airport Terminal 5 Baggage Claim area. We quickly claim our luggage and then make our way through the airport Customs area where you choose the red entrance if you have something to declare or the green entrance if you have nothing to declare. Once we have passed Heathrow Airports Customs we find our selves in the Heathrow Airport arrivals. The arrivals area is full of people / chauffeurs waiting to pick up passengers. We have decided that we will make our way into London City with the London Underground (The Tube) and therefore the process of where to buy tickets for the train from Heathrow Airport to London is covered too. In our case we were advised to buy the London Oyster Travel Card, and we give viewers a brief explanation of what that is.
All in all we found that Arriving at London Heathrow Airport Terminal 5 was easy and the airport signs were very good in pointing us in the right direction. The only issue / confusing part was whether or not we were supposed to use the Airport Shuttle transfer to get to the Immigration area or whether the Heathrow Airport Shuttle Train was only for passengers who had a transfer flight from Heathrow Airport (the train was for both arriving and transferring passengers).
Heathrow Terminal 5, Heathrow Terminal 5 is an airport terminal at Heathrow Airport, the main airport serving London. Opened in 2008, the main building in the complex is the largest free-standing structure in the United Kingdom. Terminal 5 is currently used exclusively as one of the three global hubs of International Airlines Group, served by British Airways and Iberia... Prior to 2012, the terminal was used solely by British Airways... The terminal was designed to handle 35 million passengers a year. In 2015, Terminal 5 handled 33.1 million passengers on 215,716 flights; 44.6% of the airport's passengers on 46.6% of its flights with an average of 153 passengers per flight. It was the busiest terminal at the airport, measured both by passenger numbers and flight movements...

London Airport Rail Link
A new direct connection from the West Coast Main Line to the Airports!
This WEBEO explores the possibilities of constructing a perimeter metro just west of London, the political and financial capital of Great Britain. The city is lacking of any north-south rail link connecting its western suburbs together, and more importantly, lacks any direct rail connection from anywhere other than Central London. This line serves to alleviate these problems by constructing a new railway line branching off the existing West Coast Main Line (which travels all the way up Birmingham, Manchester, and up to Scotland). In addition, this line connects with the western end of many tube lines and serves as a connection between the Midland, Western, South Western, and Southern train systems. Finally, the line connects the two airports of London, Gatwick and Heathrow, together and alleviates any hardships of transferring between the two.
The line is 41 miles long and its top speed is 100 mph (160 km/h). It will be powered by third rail and will use dual mode catenary/third rail trains.
Stations (CAPS = EXPRESS STOPS): WATFORD JUNCTION, Batchworth, Newyears Green, UXBRIDGE, Cowley, WEST DRAYTON, HEATHROW T1-3, HEATHROW T4. Lower Feltham, Hampton, HINCHLEY JUNCTION, Leatherhead, DORKING, Reigate, Earlswood, Horley, GATWICK AIRPORT.

Heathrow Airport is 15 miles west of central London and easily reached by road or public transport. In this section you'll find everything you need to help plan your airport journey.
First of all let us get one thing out of the way, there is no universal best way” from Heathrow to London that fits everyone's needs and budget.
The following few paragraphs are designed to help you identify the best transfer option for your needs and also provides some tips on helping yourself make the transfer into London as stress free and good value as possible.
If you are still stumped on the best way from Heathrow to Central London, then there is a link at the end where we will be glad to discuss your individual requirement.
When you say 'best' do you mean cheapest way to London?
If by best you really mean the cheapest way between Heathrow and Central London then its simple, look no further, just take the London Underground.
If you are on a budget, the only reason not to take the Underground (in the airport to London direction anyway) is if you are travelling with lots of luggage, are not fit enough to negotiate stairs and escalators with your luggage independently or have chosen your hotel poorly in a location requiring several changes of train or a long walk from the nearest Underground.

Using Underground between Heathrow & London details
When you say 'best' do you mean fastest and most stress free?
The fastest and most stress free transfer from Heathrow to London is the dedicated airport train the Heathrow Express. This takes just 15 minutes from Heathrow to Paddington Station running every 15 minutes.
However, if you are not staying in the Paddington, Bayswater or Marble Arch area it may be a tortoise and hare situation where once you get to Paddington you are still a long way from your hotel. If your hotel is in the Kensington High Street, Earl's Court Road or Gloucester Road area you will be doubling back on yourself and the Underground will be quicker.
The Heathrow Express is fully priced. There is a cheaper stopping train, the TFL Heathrow train that runs the same tracks, is much cheaper, but less frequent and slightly slower.

Most convenient London hotel districts to/from Heathrow
The most convenient Central London hotel districts for Heathrow Airport are the Earl's Court and Gloucester Road areas of Kensington and Paddington.
Earl's Court and Gloucester Road areas of Kensington
Earl's Court is geographically the closest major hotel district to Heathrow. It has the direct Underground link taking 35-40 minutes with trains at least every 5 minutes. Earl's Court Station is unusual in that it is in two transport zones 1 and 2. From Heathrow fares are cheaper than the next station along (Gloucester Road) but travelling into the centre of London Earl's Court is the same price as anywhere else in Central London.
The main road out to Heathrow goes through Earl's Court so a private car will be cheapest fare too from any London hotel district.
Earl's Court has a bias towards budget hotels but also has very good value mid-range chains like Premier Inn, Best Western and Ibis as well as a scattering of luxury hotels including a Marriott and is fine as a place to stay. A few hundred yards down the road around the next Underground station, Gloucester Road the bias has shifted towards larger, 4 star type hotels.

London Heathrow Airport or Heathrow (IATA*: LHR, ICAO*: EGLL) is a major international airport serving London, England, United Kingdom. Located in the London Borough of Hillingdon, in West London, Heathrow is the busiest airport in the United Kingdom and the third busiest airport in the world (as of 2012) in terms of total passenger traffic, handling more international passengers than any other airport around the globe. It is also the busiest airport in the EU by passenger traffic and the third busiest in Europe given the number of traffic movements, with a figure surpassed only by Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport and Frankfurt Airport. Heathrow is London's main airport, having replaced RAF Northolt and the earlier and better-known Croydon Airport, and together with Gatwick, Southend, Stansted, Luton and London City, London is the busiest city airport system in the world by passenger traffic (with 133,666,888 passengers travelling through the six airports); and second only to New York City in terms of traffic movements. The airport sustains 76,600 jobs directly and around 116,000 indirectly in the immediate area, and this, together with the large number of global corporations with offices close to the airport, makes Heathrow a modern aerotropolis which contributes an estimated 2.7% to London's total GVA.
Website :
The airport is owned and operated by BAA Limited, which also owns and operates five other UK airports. BAA is owned by FGP TopCo Limited, an international consortium led by Ferrovial, which also includes Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec and GIC Special Investments. Heathrow is the primary hub for British Airways and the primary operating base for Virgin Atlantic Airways.
Heathrow lies 12 nautical miles (22 km; 14 mi) west of Central London, and has two parallel east--west runways along with four operational terminals on a site that covers 12.14 square kilometres (4.69 sq mi). Terminal 5 was officially dedicated by Queen Elizabeth II on 14 March 2008 and opened to passengers on 27 March 2008. Construction of a new Terminal 2 complex to replace the old terminal building and adjacent Queen's Building began in 2009 with the first phase expected to open in 2014. Terminals 3 and 4 underwent major refurbishments between 2007 and 2009. In November 2007, a consultation process began for the building of a new third runway and a sixth terminal, which was controversially approved on 15 January 2009 by UK Government ministers. The project was subsequently cancelled on 12 May 2010 by the Cameron Government.
The airport holds a Civil Aviation Authority Public Use Aerodrome Licence (Number P527), which allows flights for public transportation of passengers or for flying instruction.

Where is Heathrow Airport? LHR Airport Heathrow Airport travel guide!
Here is your one-stop journey guide to help you schedule your vacation both from and to Heathrow Airport.
Centrally located just under 16 miles western side within central London, and with a standard travelling time by means of car of approximately 45 minutes, Heathrow could possibly be the 5th most busy airport terminal in the world. Here you will retrieve the information you require to plan your vacation to and from Heathrow Airport.
London Heathrow Airport (LHR) serves as a leading international airport within the south end Hillingdon, Greater London, Britain, United Kingdom over a stretch of land which is designated region of the Metropolitan Green Belt. The airport is encompassed with the built-up areas of Harlington, Cranford and Longford and Harmondsworth towards the north and by Hatton and Hounslow into the eastern. To the south lie Bedfont and Stanwell while towards the western side Heathrow is split up from Slough in Berkshire by the M25 motorway.
Heathrow Airport is catagorized entirely under the Hounslow post town of the TW postcode region.
Since the airport is west of London and as it's runways run east-west, an airliner's arriving access is usually directly across the capital out of Greater London in case the wind turbine arises from the western.
Heathrow stands out as the busiest airport in great britan, plus the most busy Nation Airport in European countries by passenger traffic, as well as 6th busiest airport in the world by total passenger traffic, it handled a record 75 million passengers.
Heathrow airport is placed 12 nautical miles (25 km; 16 mi) western with regards to City Of London, and also has two parallel east-west runways along with 5 functional airport terminals over a site which ranges 4.74 square miles (12.27 sq kilometres), The airport has been operated and owned by Heathrow Airport Assets, which is owned by FGP TopCo Limited, a worldwide consortium inclusive of Ferrovial Group (25.00%), Qatar Holding LLC (20.00%), Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec (12.62%), Government of Singapore Investment Corporation (11.20%), Alinda Capital Partners (11.18%) and Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS) (10.00%). London Heathrow Airport Terminal 5 is the primary hub for British Airways and Heathrow Airport Terminal 3 the main operating base for Virgin Atlantic.
Heathrow Airport is utilized by over 80 airlines flying to 84 countries to 185 destinations. It's got five passenger terminals (numbered 1 to 5) which also includes cargo terminal (terminal 4). The busiest single destination in traveler figures is New York, with more than 3 million passengers flying between Heathrow and JFK Airport.
The UK authorities put in place the Airports Commission, Sir Howard Davies a self-sufficient commission chaired to ascertain various strategies for maximizing capaCity at United Kingdom airports. The commission shortlisted two solutions for improving Heathrow airport including a 3rd runway in Heathrow airport, in addition to a third option for expanding Gatwick Airport.
Of course, surrounding Heathrow airport is considered the diamond in London’s crown, maintaining more than 72 million travelers in a year's time. Heathrow airport is the persistent thorn inside the section of eco-warriors throughout European countries, and plans to have a third runway have been conquered at each turn, considerably towards the aggravation of the BAA.
Along with Gatwick, Stansted, Luton, Southend and London City, Heathrow LHR airport is one of 6 airports with scheduled services serving the London area, regardless of the fact only London City and London Heathrow Airport are within Greater London.
