Alaskan Bear Watching & Flightseeing Adventure
This video montage was compiled by Google Photos from videos we took in and around Ketchikan Alaska. We went on two separate excursions. The first two flights took us to and from a bear watching platform near a waterfall on Margaret Creek. The second excursion took us on a flightseeing trip over the magnificent Misty Fiords National Monument, an area of over 2 million acres in the Tongass National Forest. Our pilots were Randy (of Mountain Air) and Michelle (of Island Wings Air). To get to Ketchikan, we cruised the Inside Passage on Holland America's MS Volendam cruise ship. The flights were the highlight of our trip to Alaska.
Ketchikan Misty Fjords Floatplane Flightseeing with Country & Soul
Fly through the Fjords on a sea plane with Taquan Air in Ketchikan, Alaska. The flight was an excursion arranged during our cruise on the Ruby Princess. Any video is great, but the ride with a pilot passionate about his work just needs to be experienced in person.

Rust's Flying Service Flightseeing - Lake Hood High-Speed (Step) Taxi
Rust's Flying Service in Anchorage hosted a summer tourist season kick-off event at their Lake Hood hangar to get tourism employees in the spirit for the hordes of visitors that come up for three months every year.
After I enjoyed crab cakes from CIRI, spinach dip from the Alaska Railroad, wraps from Costco, and ice cream from Tastee Freez, I joined the long line of people waiting for a free 15-minute flightseeing tour on a Cessna 206 floatplane from Rust's Flying Service. It was a quick trip, but the views of Anchorage, Cook Inlet, and the Chugach Mountains were amazing! And despite living in Anchorage for almost 16 years, I had never been on a floatplane. I was very surprised how smooth the takeoff and landing were--I was expecting a lot more drag from the water, but our expert pilot Henry kept the perfect amount of thrust upon landing to keep us from pitching forward. Taking off and landing a floatplane is a completely different experience than doing the same in a wheeled aircraft!
This video shows the high-speed taxi from Rust's hangar/dock over to the start of the runway near the Millennium Hotel.

Saxman Native Village & Lumberjack Show
Become absorbed in the rich living culture of Southeast Alaska's Native Americans and witness a rip-roaring lumberjack competition on this comprehensive tour of Ketchikan. Your first stop will be a visit to Saxman Native Village. For generations, Tlingit villages have maintained a tradition of welcoming visitors in regal style. At Saxman, guests are still afforded this same time-honored welcome. In this Native community, tribal elders and others have worked hard to pass on many of the traditions that have long defined the culture of Southeast Alaska. A visit to Saxman gives the visitor a firsthand opportunity to see the results of these efforts. A short video program introduces the visitor to the culture and history of Saxman. Guests then enter the Beaver Clan House where they are welcomed by song and dance. Visitors are encouraged to participate in the final dance before moving onto the Saxman Totem Park, one of the largest gatherings of totem poles in the world. Your guide will help unravel the mysteries of these towering, majestic poles that stand as sentries over the present generation. The next stop is the Village Carving Center where world famous carvers work and pass on their skills to eager apprentices. A visit to the Village Store provides guests with the opportunity to purchase some of the finest Alaska Native art available or a small memento of your visit. On the return trip, see sights of Creek Street and let the fun begin with a stop at the Great Alaska Lumberjack Show. Hardy lumberjacks bring to life Alaska's colorful forest history with an action packed competition in the partially covered and heated outdoor arena. Cheer on your team of World Champion lumberjacks in events such as chopping, sawing, tree climbing and much more. You will be kept on the edge of your seats as the entertaining host relives rich logging tales of a bygone era.
Note: Please note that there may be a short wait prior to the Lumberjack Show. Time can be spent on your own or in the rustic company store located at the Lumberjack Show. Tour may operate in reverse.
