Japan - Day Trip to HAKONE (1080p HD) | Magda T
DAY TRIP TO HAKONE:
Hakone is well known for being an Onsen (hot spring) haven in Japan. It’s a short train journey away from Tokyo so it makes a perfect destination for a day trip. When visiting an onsen, you need to follow a specific etiquette – in majority of them, no clothes or tattoos are allowed! If you don’t feel comfortable being naked, Hakone Kowakien Yunessun is a ‘swimsuit wearing’ onsen and some of them permit band-aids over tattoos.
As we only had one day, we skipped the onsen experience but there is always another time!
GETTING THERE FROM TOKYO:
• Using HAKONE FREE PASS (2 days pass for Y5.140) can be purchased from ticket vending machines at all Odakyu line stations and also at Shinjuku station West Exit 1F at Odakyu Sightseeing Service centre.
• Take Odakyu Railway to Odawara and change there to Hakone Tozan Train – price of the return ticket is included into the Hakone Free Pass which also covers all the transport in the Hakone area and discounted prices on entry fees to majority of the attractions & restaurants
• From Shinjuku station to Hakone-Yumoto on the ODAKYU ROMANCE CAR (express train 75 mins) with reserved seats but need to buy a supplementary ticket for Y1.090 to addition to regular train tickets - can be purchased at the same places as the pass & also online
OUR ITINERARY:
????Tokyo Shinjuku to Hakone-Yumoto on the Odakyu Romance Car
????Taking Hakone Tozan Railway at Hakone-Yumoto to Chokoku-no-mori (for better views seat on the left hand side)
????Hakone Open Air Museum (make sure to have mini ‘onsen’ foot bath there)
????Taking Hakone Tozan Cable Car from Gora to Sounzan Station - it was a short 5-10 mins walk from the museum to Gora – if you are not short of time you can visit the Hakone Gora Park (free access with the pass)
????Taking the cable car (Hakone Ropeway) from Sounzan to Owakudani (only 9 minute ride)
????The Great Boiling Valley at Owakudani – explore the volcanic valley up in the mountain with active sulphur springs and try their signature black eggs (kuro-tamago). Legend holds that eating one of these eggs can extend your life by 7 years!
????Take the Hakone Ropeway to Togendai (when we visited that part of the ropeway was under construction and replacement busses were running instead)
????Pirate ship cruise across Lake Ashi from Togendai (free with the Hakone Pass) - from Togendai walk down to the edge of the lake to the cruise pier (timetable can be found here ) - great views of the Kuzuryu & Hakone Shrines.
You can disembark the ship at Hakone-machi or Moto-Hakone.
1. Hakone-machi:
- more places to eat
- visit The Hakone Checkpoint museum
- go to Onshihakone Park – great spot to see Mt. Fuji (if the weather permits)
- walk Old Tokaido Road to Moto-Hakone (old cedar road which historically connected Tokyo to Kyoto)
2. Moto-Hakone:
- visit Hakone Shrine (magical walkway with lanterns)
????Take Hakone Tozan Bus from Moto-Hakone bus terminal to Hakone-Yumoto or Odawara (every 30 mins takes 30-40mins)

o Curry at Fujiya Hotel
o Hatsuhana Soba Shinkan closes at 7pm

Best way to spend a day in Hakone | Hakone free pass - Round Course
Hakone (箱根) is part of the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park, less than one hundred kilometers from Tokyo.
Famous for hot springs, natural beauty and the view across Lake Ashinoko of nearby Mount Fuji, Hakone is one of the most popular destinations among Japanese and international tourists looking for a break from Tokyo.
The Hakone Free Pass by Odakyu Railways is a discount pass for exploring Hakone. It provides unlimited use of Odakyu-affiliated buses, trains, boats, cablecars and ropeways in the Hakone area and discounted admission to selected tourist attractions on two or three consecutive days. Optionally, the pass also includes a discounted round trip from Tokyo's Shinjuku Station.
popular and attractive way of visiting Hakone is by circling the region with five different means of transport (train, cablecar, ropeway, boat and bus), using the Hakone Free Pass.
The round course outlined below starts and ends in Hakone-Yumoto and circles the Hakone region in the counter-clockwise direction. Of course, it is also possible to follow the course in the opposite direction or to start and end somewhere different.
If you leave early in the morning, it is possible to completed the Hakone round course in a one day trip from Tokyo. However, we recommend allocating two days and one night to your visit, preferably with a stay at a ryokan with hot spring baths.
Hakone Tozan Railway
Hakone-Yumoto to Gora
35 minutes, departures every 10-20 minutes
The Hakone Tozan Railway winds itself through a narrow, densely wooded valley, gaining more than 300 meters in altitude. Several hot springs and the Hakone Open Air Museum are located along its route.
Hakone Tozan Cablecar
Gora to Sounzan
10 minutes, departures every 20 minutes
The Hakone Art Museum and Gora Park are located in Gora along the cablecar route.
Hakone Ropeway
Sounzan to Togendai
30 minutes, constant departures
Nice views of Mount Fuji and the national park can be enjoyed from the Hakone Ropeway when visibility is good. A transfer of ropeways is required at Owakudani, where travelers can observe volcanic activities.
Hakone Sightseeing Boat
Togendai to Hakone-machi
30 minutes, departures every 30-60 minutes
Nice views of Lake Ashi, the surrounding wooded mountains and Mount Fuji can be enjoyed from the pirate ship shaped boats when visibility is good. Most ships operate from Togendai to Hakone-machi and then continue to Moto-Hakone.
On foot
Hakone-machi to Moto-Hakone
20-30 minutes
The Checkpoint Museum, Detached Palace Garden and the Ancient Cedar Avenue are located along this attractive walk from Hakone-machi to Moto-Hakone. Alternatively you could continue to Moto-Hakone by boat or take a bus.
Hakone Tozan Bus (line H or K)
Moto-Hakone to Hakone-Yumoto
35 minutes, departures every 15-20 minutes
Visit Hakone Shrine in Moto-Hakone and then return by bus to Yumoto, possibly with a stop at Yunessun along the way (by bus line H). Alternatively, you could walk a section of the Old Tokaido and catch a bus from the Amazake Chaya or Hatajuku back to Yumoto (by bus line K).

Owakudani (Hakone, Japan) Visit
Owakudani is a station along the Hakone Ropeway between Sounzan and Togendai. Sounzan is accessible from Hakone-Yumoto by Hakone Tozan Railway and cablecar with a transfer at Gora Station. Togendai is on the shores of Lake Ashinoko and is connected by boat with Moto-Hakone and Hakone-machi.

The Hakone Sightseeing Cruise offers pirate style sightseeing boats that sail around Lake Ashinoko, a popular spot in Hakone. There are three boats: Royal II, Victory, and Vasa, and passengers can board the cruise at any of the three ports along the edge of the lake. Those ports are Hakonemachi-ko, Motohakone-ko, or Togendai-ko. We recommend the cruise that leaves from Motohakone-ko, as you can view Mt. Fuji, a large torii gate, and Lake Ashinoko all at once. Passengers can enjoy majestic views on sunny days, when the contrast between the blue sky and the sparkling surface of the lake is very beautiful.
Happy Traveling & Exploring! ????

Bye Hakone... Hello, KYOTO!! [Kichi Kichi content](Japan part 4)
Hey guys,
In this video we end our relaxation at Hakone to take the bullet train (Shinkansen) to Kyoto where we explore the outdoor markets and visit a particular restaurant (popular from Buzzfeed). Omurice was delicious, but the beef stew was better! The restaurant was very small and to the side of the alleyway.

15 Things to Do Near Tokyo, Japan - Visiting Yamanashi, Shizuoka & Kanagawa Prefectures
Some of my favorite adventures I had during my 12-day trip to Japan were the ones I had just outside of Tokyo in the Yamanashi, Shizuoka, and Kanagawa Prefectures, and I want to share them with you in this guide to things you can do near Tokyo, Japan!
My Film Making Kit ►
-Yamanashi Prefectural Maglev Exhibition Center – Tsuru City, Yamanashi Prefecture
This is the only facility in Japan where you can get an up-close look at the Maglev, a high-speed train that travels at speeds up to 500 kilometers per hour!
-Fuji-Q Highland Amusement Park – Fujiyoshida, Yamanashi Prefecture
This amusement park is known around the world for its fast and steep roller coasters, which are a blast to ride! It’s a fun outing for the whole family!
-La Vista Fuji Hotel & Spa – Yamanashi Prefecture
This stunning hotel, spa, and onsen boasts some of the most spectacular views of Mount Fuji in Japan, as well as a great breakfast buffet and mind-blowing late-night ramen!
-Ide Sake Brewery – Fuji Five Lakes Region, Yamanashi Prefecture
The pure, fruity sake at this incredible brewery is bolstered by the Mount Fuji spring water used in their sake production. Take part in a tour and a tasting to gain a deeper appreciation of sake brewing!
-Houtou Fudou – Fuji Five Lakes Region, Yamanashi Prefecture
This charming Samurai hot pot restaurant uses only high-quality ingredients, which can be tasted in every bite of their Houtou noodles. The serving sizes are very generous!
-Izunokuni Panorama Park – Mount Katsugari, Shizuoka Prefecture
After riding a gondola to the top of Mount Katsugari, take in the beautiful Sky Garden and stunning views of the surrounding countryside before stopping by the Katsuragi Hitokotonushi Buddhist shrine and the 100 statuettes of Jizo!
-Arai Ryokan – Izu-Hakone Area, Shizuoka Prefecture
For true Japanese hospitality, stay at the Arai Ryokan Inn, which boasts extensive art collections, gorgeous traditional architecture, and a wide array of succulent seafood options!
-Shuzenji Onsen – Izu Peninsula, Shizuoka Prefecture
After checking out this hot spring town’s Hakoyu public bath, take a walk through its peaceful bamboo forest and try the town’s many wasabi products!
-Atami – Shizuoka Prefecture
Atami’s magnificent cherry blossom trees bloom during the cheaper months of late January to mid-February, making them the most cost-effective cherry blossoms in the country!
-Owakundani Valley – Kanagawa Prefecture
At the volcanic Owakundani Valley, steam and hot gases issue from vents in the ground and pools of sulfuric water boil in the open air. Try an egg cooked in these pools; the shells turn black and are said will add 7 years to your life!
-Hakone Open-Air Museum – Hakone, Kanagawa Prefecture
This fantastic open-air museum is home to over a thousand works of art by artists including Pablo Picasso. Check out their five exhibition halls, children’s areas, and more!
-Hakone Kowakidani Onsen Mizunooto – Kanagawa Prefecture
This unique onsen offers half-Japanese lodgings and half-Western amenities, including a bed instead of a futon or inflatable mattress. Don’t miss out on their heavenly Japanese barbecue dinner!
-Odawara Castle – Odawara, Kanagawa Prefecture
Take a tour of this prominent historic Japanese castle to see its ancient armor, swords, maps, and old documents. Finish up by renting some Samurai-style armor and taking some fun photos in front of this gorgeous landmark!

For the delicious traditional winter food called oden, which typically includes boiled eggs, daikon, and fish cakes, visit Odawara Oden. Finish off your meal with some delicious sake!
-Bullet Train Ride to Tokyo – Kanagawa Prefecture
No Japanese vacation is complete without riding a bullet train, which makes cities hundreds of miles apart only a few hours away from one another. Take a 40-minute trip from Odawara to Tokyo for the train ride of a lifetime!
And there you have it! Those are the fifteen things you should do near Tokyo!

Hakone | One Day Trip
Hakone, A wonderful place to visit. This place is famous for the view of Mt. Fuji and their hot springs. You can complete most of the major sights in a day but it would be better if you can stay one night. We took the Romancecar from Shinjuku to Hakone-Yumoto. Then took the cable car to Sounzan station and the ropeway to reach Owakudani. The ropeway took around 30 minutes in total. The views from there was spectacular. Owakudani is a volcanic valley with active sulfur. The area is quite hot and very gassy. It smells sort of like rotten eggs. The black eggs are cooked in naturally hot water and the sulfur in the water turns the eggshells black . The myth is if you eating the egg is believed to add 7 years to your life. Then we went to Lake Ashi via a sightseeing cruise . The boat ride took around 30 minutes and was very windy. After that we booked a private onsen. And the experience was truly incredible.
Thanks for watching! :)
