Scuba dive at Key West. 11/2018. Captains Corner Dive Center
A nice dive at Key West with my two son's.
We went with Captains Corner Dive Center. Very happy with the dive operation. Will use again. We decided to rent this time and found they use top of the line rental gear!! Atomic Aquatics regs and BC!
Visibility was not the greatest that day but we still had a good time.

Diving LOOE KEY Nat'l Marine Sanctuary, FLORIDA KEYS
2019.
Diving Looe Key Marine Sanctuary with my Uncle Bill and Aunt Tony. This was our first time getting to dive together. Visibility wasn't too bad and there was plenty of parrotfish and fan coral.
Looe Key Sanctuary Preservation Area (SPA) is located approximately 5.5 nautical miles south of Ramrod Key and about eight nautical miles southwest of Bahia Honda State Park.
A diversity of fish congregate here – parrots and surgeonfish on the north side; barracudas and jacks on top of the reef; grunts, butterflyfish, and angelfish on the reef crest.

Army Special Forces Underwater Operations School
Key West Florida is known worldwide as one of the tourist destinations, but it’s also home to the Special Forces Underwater Operations School. The Army’s six-week course churns out combat divers who take that knowledge back to their units and share it with their own teams.

Diving at Apo Island
Apo Island will be a dive site I would like return to often. It is a dive site I can visually binge on coral, colorful tiny reef fish and sea turtles.
It was declared a Marine Protected Area year 1982 with the cooperation of a few families. The people of the island saw how the reef recovered and brought life. The rest of Apo Island population joined in the effort of protecting their marine area.
Nature rewards and honors those who make an effort to help her and Apo Island commerce has improved through tourism. Divers and snorkelers come daily to experience it's beauty.
Our list of dive sites for the day were Chapel, Largahan and Sitio Cogon. The moment we dove in, a huge cluster of table coral greeted us from below in full resplendent glory. It's the largest I've ever seen in our country and truly amazed me. There is an abundance of branches from one point to another. Staghorns, soft corals, brain corals, great stars, sea fans, vibrant critters and barrel sponges make Apo a luxuriant colourful underwater garden.
Trevallies make surprise appearances out of nowhere, swiftly passing by us looking for prey. Anthias and smaller reef fish dart back and forth with the current which by the way, can get really strong. Sea turtles did not mind our presence but please please do not touch them. Respect their space for we are but visitors in their environment.
After Chapel and Largahan I thought there would no longer be an opportunity for Apo to take my breath away. That's until we dove Cogon point. Cogon point bubbles are an indication of the volcanic activity in Dumaguete decades ago. When we were asked to dig our hand in the ocean floor, it was enveloped by the warmth of small grainy gravel like sand. The brown colour of the ocean bed was unusual from the other dive points. It looked like soil and the coral similar to colourful plants and trees. There topography has an elegance that seemed to come from another world. Diving has a way of putting you in a zen like state but Sitio Cogon dive site multiplies this and it is truly mesmerizing.
Life can be so significant yet make you feel so small at the same time, Apo Island reminded me of this. Please dive responsibly, be kind to the ocean for it's not ours alone and it takes care of us. Please stay away from the animals. Please keep your fins away from the coral. Thank you very much reading up until this part and watching the video. I hope I'm able to share my experiences with you vividly.

Underwater Hotel: Scuba Diving in Miami
Scuba dive with us to the Underwater Hotel, Jules' Undersea Lodge, in Key Largo at 21 ft depth (6.4 meters). A true hidden gem in the Miami area. Photos & my PADI diving advise:

I just returned from Miami where I obtained my PADI open water diving license. It required 3 full days of diving plus many online courses in order to get certified. The courses and gear set me back $600 Canadian dollars.
At Molasses Reef we dove to a depth of 42 ft, around 12 meters navigating through gorgeous corals and ocean life. The ocean was quite wild causing many people on the boat to get seasick and throwup.
The toughest part must have been crunching the dive tables which help you avoid decompression sickness, a serious illness caused by nitrogen bubbles forming in the bloodstream by moving up too fast from deep water to the surface.
The lagoon water at Jules' Undersea Lodge isn't that clear but still worth visiting. Underwater room rates start at $150 per person for a 3-hour stay knowing how to dive is required to get to your room since it is located at a depth of 21 ft, 6.4 meters.
My diving equipment existed out of fins: Mares, Piana avanti HP 9.5/10.5. 44-45. Outer jacket: Henderson divewear size L and Body wetsuit: Henderson divewear 3mm size M.
If you are considering becoming a PADI open water diver I recommend South Beach Dive & Surf shop in Miami, where I received a massive discount by using this Groupon. Go make use of it while it is still valid, check my blog for details:

Scubapro / Jupiter Dive Center Demo Event 2014
Scuba Pro demo event with Jupiter Dive Center saw numerous sea creatures at Scar Face dive site. This video centers on a specific resting mother Loggerhead sea turtle who likely had a busy night of laying eggs. As I rounded some soft coral, she actually seems to BLINK at me - as if to say I trust you won't hurt me, I am tired, and need to rest.

Underwater Music Festival Spotlights Keys Coral Reef and Quirky Costumed Divers
Eel-vis Presley, Bob Marlin and other rock-and-roll legends performed beneath the sea in the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary Saturday during the Lower Keys Underwater Music Festival.
The quirky concert, which attracted more than 500 divers and snorkelers to the continental United States' only living coral barrier reef, offered an offbeat salute to rock with divers costumed as Presley, reggae icon Marley and other famed musicians.
Their undersea jam session featured fishy instruments such as a clambourine and wahoo kazoo sculpted by a Lower Keys artist.
Staged by a Keys radio station, the event took place at Looe Key Reef, an area of the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary approximately six miles south of Big Pine Key.
Music was broadcast underwater via speakers suspended beneath boats positioned at the reef. The playlist included ocean--themed offerings such as the Beatles' Yellow Submarine, Jimmy Buffett's Fins and Donovan's Atlantis.
The fish seemed to enjoy the music as much as I did, said snorkeler and first-time festival participant Gail Coad of Sarasota, Fla. They almost were dancing in unison to the melody, and the music just kind of surrounds you.
Samantha Langsdale of Key West, Fla., who wore a bright green mermaid costume, said she made some undersea friends during the festival.
I believe that the parrotfish family has accepted me, said Langsdale. We have similar colors.
As well as being a one-of-a-kind event for divers and snorkelers, the Underwater Music Festival included diver awareness messages promoting preservation of the Keys' unique coral reef ecosystem.
We have a lot of fun, we dress up in costumes, but there's a serious side, said festival director Bill Becker. Coral reef conservation is the message.
