ʻEwa Beach ([ˈɛʋə]) or simply ʻEwa is a census-designated place (CDP) located in ʻEwa District and the City & County of Honolulu along the leeward coast of Oʻahu in Hawaiʻi. As of the 2010 Census, the CDP had a total population of 14,955.
The word ʻewa means crooked or ill-fitting in Hawaiian.[1] The name comes from the myth that the gods Kāne and Kanaloa threw a stone to determine the boundaries, but it was lost and later found at Pili o Kahe.[2]
Along much of the South Shore of Oʻahu, ʻEwa is a reference to the direction of ʻEwa Beach, roughly westwards along the shore. Related terms are mauka (towards the mountains, roughly northwards), makai (towards the ocean, roughly South), and Diamond Head or Koko Head, roughly eastwards along the shore.
The U.S. postal code for ʻEwa Beach is 96706 .

Bringing Joy, Hope, and Healing Among Immigrants
The Kong family's journey took them from their home in Cambodia to refugee camps in Thailand and the Philippines, Then they moved to the United States and back to Cambodia. Along the way, they encountered Jesus. Today they are mobile pioneers who take the joy and hope of Christ back to their relatives in Southeast Asia.

KĀKOU – Hawai‘i’s Town Hall The Global Squeeze: How Do We Keep Hawaiʻi Hawaiʻi? | Program
In our second live town hall, we pause to consider where we are, and where we want to be. Change is inevitable. Some changes come quietly, incrementally, over years; others seem to emerge all of a sudden and nearly full-blown. How is Hawai‘i changing – for better, for worse, or both?
This is not a conversation about major controversial events that have been dividing our community. This is not a conversation about pro-this, or anti-that. This is a discussion about the finer details of life in Hawai‘i that affect our sense of place. What details compromise the core essence of Hawai‘i – and where are we willing to draw the line?
We’ve invited 40 individuals from across the state to participate in this frank, respectful and community-based discussion in our studio. We invite you to join the conversation through email and social media, using the hashtag #pbskakou.

PBS Hawaii - Insights: How Should Hawaii's Public Schools Educate Students about Sex?
Hawaii's public schools provide children with a culturally responsive and factual education about sexual health. And yet, our teen pregnancy rate is higher than the national average. Some parents, lawmakers and religious leaders feel the training goes into too many aspects of sexual health and doesn't give our young teens the right message. Is the sexual education curriculum too detailed or not detailed enough? Malia Mattoch hosts the discussion.
History of Hawaii
The human history of Hawaii includes phases of early Polynesian settlement, British arrival, unification, Euro-American and Asian immigrators, the overthrow of the Hawaiian monarchy, a brief period as the Republic of Hawaii, and admission to the United States as Hawaii Territory and then as the state of Hawaii.

PBS Hawaii - Insights: How Would Hawaii's Economy Survive without the Military?
There's a pitched war of words over a plan to downsize troops at two U.S. Army bases on Oahu, Schofield Barracks and Fort Shafter. The Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii is leading the charge for those opposed to the cuts, citing an enormous impact to Hawaii's economy in both revenues and in military/civilian jobs. Those in favor of the downsizing believe it will relieve some of Hawaii's traffic and housing woes. Malia Mattoch moderates this discussion.
