Antipolis Wreck Shore Dive - Cape Town
This scuba dive took place on 25 November 2017 where we explored the Antipolis Shipwreck. A couple of months before there were massive storms that destroyed most of the wreck. Older videos of the Antipolis Wreck will show the engine room for example. We could not access it since it had collapsed.

Scuba Diving in Cape Town:
Under the sea, down where it’s wetter, down where it’s better, under the sea – YES, you know where we’re going with this; it’s time to go Scuba Diving! And wow, what an incredible underwater experience it will be. Going Scuba Diving in the turquoise Cape Town waters is truly an experience unlike any other and one you just can’t miss out on. The spectacular water of the Mother City is known for some incredible dive sights, from shipwrecks to kelp forest dives and not to mention diving with cow sharks and seals, the world below the Cape Town surface is one that should definitely be discovered and explored by anyone and everyone that gets the opportunity to – and that should be you too!
So, why exactly should you go Scuba diving? Ever hear the saying you should spend your time and money on experiences and not things? Well, it’s so true! And going Scuba diving in Cape Town is one such experience that you will treasure forever. But, just in case here are a couple more reasons exactly why you should do it: You get to see and experience things you cannot imagine ever existed.
Colours, patterns, wildlife and various species of fish and marine life all around you – the Cape Town Ocean is a treasure chest waiting to be uncovered. You get to discover the unknown, and for many the untraveled. Have you ever stopped to think that the ocean covers approximately 71% of the earth’s surface – therefore you haven’t truly travelled the world until you’ve been underwater, don’t you agree? It truly is a whole new world, there’s no denying that! People are often intimidated by scuba diving and therefore shy away from doing it.
But there’s absolutely no reason to be. Scuba diving actually doesn’t require any prior training or experience – all you need to be able to do is swim and breathe, seems easy enough! And you don’t even have to be an expert swimmer, as long as you’re comfortable in the water, you’re good to go! And finally, once you’ve gone scuba diving you can officially call yourself a scuba diver – and that sounds pretty cool, like you’re part of a secret society cool. Plus you’ll fall completely head-over-heels in love with the Cape Town underwater world, we guarantee it!
But what exactly can you expect when going Scuba Diving in Cape Town? Well, we’re here to give you the low-down, don’t worry! Cape Town is known for its colder waters, but don’t let that scare you off, with the right gear and especially a good dry suit you won’t even feel a stitch of cold, that’s a promise! The beautiful Cape waters is home to a large variety of marine life from whales and seals to dolphins, fish and manta rays, there definitely is no shortage of sea animals to be seen and enjoyed along the Cape coastline. The diving season in Cape Town can also be divided into Summer Diving and Winter Diving, let’s take a closer look at each of these:
• Summer Diving: Atlantic Seaboard (October to February): The average water temperatures during the summer diving season is approximately 13 degree, but remember you will have a dry suit on so it might as well be 30 degree. During summer diving its best to explore the beautiful reefs, kelp forests and shipwreck dives, both shore and boat based. These are all incredible options and any one of them will ensure an experience of a lifetime!
• Winter Diving: False Bay (March to September): The average water temperatures during the winter diving season is between 12 – 18 degrees. This is an excellent time for shore dive sites, deeper reefs and wreck dives accessed by boat. As with surfing in False Bay, scuba diving is best in the winter when the northwester blows which improves the visibility (up to 15m).
Going Scuba Diving is something you absolutely MUST experience while in Cape Town, there simply is no other option. So go, get your scuba dive on, and don’t wait a single second longer!

Former Coach of the T. C. Williams Titans
with remarks by President Jim Yong Kim and Joan Alexandria Leslie '12, President of the Afro-American Society
Monday, January 16, 2012
* 7 pm, The Moore Theater, Hopkins Center for the Arts
Herman Boone is the legendary high school football coach portrayed by Denzel Washington in Remember the Titans. In 1971, racial tensions ran high in Alexandria, Virginia, as three schools merged to form the newly integrated T. C. Williams High School. It was from this union that the Titan football team was created. The former rivalries between the schools, coupled with the strain between the black and white players, resulted in a team that was far from united. Tensions only escalated when Coach Boone was given the job of head coach over popular white coach Bill Yoast, who became the assistant coach.
Remarkably, the two coaches were able to put aside their prejudices, and in doing so they unified their players to form a team whose common vision was to respect each other and win football games. At the same time, through the game of football, Boone and Yoast were able to help their small Virginian community put aside intolerance and join together to support its children. The Titans became one of the best teams in Virginia, compiling a 13--0 record, and went on to win the state championship.

Innovation Survival: Innovation in Science
Google Tech Talk
April 8, 2010
ABSTRACT
Presented by W. David Schwaderer.
Innovation is essential for all progress and competitive survival. It provides a democratic vehicle for individuals and upstarts to challenge and neutralize powerful incumbents. Yet, because change accompanies innovation, it is a double-edged sword.
This presentation examines the historical reception transformative scientific breakthroughs initially received before widespread adoption. By example, it teaches principles that can help ensure change agents personally, and their organizations, are on the delivering side of innovation's sharp edge.
W. David Schwaderer has a Masters Degree in Applied Mathematics from the California Institute of Technology and an MBA from the University of Southern California. He has worked at IBM, EDS, Adaptec, Symantec, and Silicon Valley startups. He has authored six commercial software programs for a variety of machine architectures using several different languages, dozens of articles, and ten technical books that explain complex technology in approachable ways. David's soon-to-be-published 11th book follows over 10 years of research and is titled Innovation Survival - Concept, Courage, Chance, and Change.

The Natural Environment of Tudor London
This lecture offers a 'virtual walk' around the City of London with Sir Thomas Gresham, evaluation the City's air, water, soil and wildlife at that time.
A lecture by Carolyn Roberts, Emerita Professor of the Environment 10 April 2019
Tudor London is variously reported as a squalid seething mass of humanity choking on its own filth and fumes, and as a delightful garden where babbling brooks and sweet flowers delighted the senses of people such as Elizabeth I, Shakespeare and Erasmus.
Drawing on evidence from contemporary maps, paintings and writings, and modern environmental science, the lecture will offer a 'virtual' walk around the City with Sir Thomas Gresham, evaluating these different perspectives on the City’s air, water, soil and wildlife.
