Mineral Wells ~ Crazy Water
I stopped by Mineral Wells to tour the Crazy Water place and look at the Baker Hotel. The Baker hotel was opened in 1920 however, the depression caused the hotel to go into bankruptcy.

Bankhead Video Contest Inspiration: Mineral Wells
The line between insanity and inspiration can run as thin as a highway line stretched across a map. If the Texas summer heat is getting to your mind something fierce, release your inner producer and film your own Bankhead Highway video. Then, submit it to our Faces and Places of the Bankhead Highway video contest, hosted on Film Freeway:
This video explores the local history of Mineral Wells. The city is so named for the mineral rich spring waters that once filled luxurious baths for the wealthy and famous, who sought rest and relaxation at the Baker Hotel. Though the Baker Hotel now stands vacant downtown, a few blocks away, the Famous Mineral Water Company and Crazy Water Bath House sells a variety of mineral waters pumped straight from those same springs. It also offers a wide array of spa services in keeping with the town’s 100-year heritage of Bankhead hospitality. Get out of the heat this summer and head for Mineral Wells to develop your own Bankhead Highway video. If your friends and family think you’ve lost it, tell them you drank the water!
Need help locating additional places to shoot your Bankhead Highway video? Check out our Historic Bankhead Highway mobile tour and explore the many Bankhead Highway sites and locations Texas has to offer:

In Mineral Wells Area - Lake Mineral Wells State Park & Trailway - Mineral Wells Texas, the Two Tired Teachers visit the Historic Baker Hotel, Lake Mineral Wells State Park, and a sampling of Crazy Water.
As the Two Tired Teachers explain in the Mineral Wells Area -- Lake Mineral Wells State Park & Trailway, the historic Baker Hotel opened in 1929, two weeks after the stock market crash that began the Great Depression. Equipped with air conditioning and an Olympic sized swimming pool, the Baker offered 450 rooms for its visitors.
Among those who frequented the hotel were Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow, Will Rogers, the Three Stooges, Helen Keller, and a host of other famous folk. In 1954 the Democratic National Convention was held at the Baker in Mineral Wells.
Unfortunately, now this historic beauty stands in disrepair. Efforts are underway for a restoration of the building, and the plans are to enlarge the rooms considerably, making it a 150 room hotel.
Crazy Water is still being sold in Mineral Wells. Crazy Water is one of the only original wells from the boom of the 1920s. People at that time flocked to the small town of Mineral Wells, Texas to enjoy what they believed to be the healing powers of the mineral waters
The Crazy Water company still offers four variety of mineral waters with varying minerals in them. Crazy Water ships water to various professional athletes who feel that the water has restorative powers.
An impressive Vietnam Memorial is located just outside Mineral Wells, TX, not far from the Lake Mineral Wells State Park & Trailway. It features a wall that is 2/3 the size of the one in Washington, D.C. and is updated every year.
The memorial has vehicles used in the war, as well as memorabilia from that time. Information and maps of prisoner of war camps are also in this small, but very informative museum/memorial.
Lake Mineral Wells State Park & Trailway is vast. It has miles of trails, a great swim area with a beach, fishing piers, and shady campsites. It is a beautiful park serving all types of campers -- RVs, tents, and equestrian.
Finally, the Trailway runs from Lake Mineral Wells State Park & Trailway to Weatherford, TX. The trail is approximately 20 miles long and is a multi-purpose trail for hiking, biking, and horses. Restrooms are located in Garner, TX, on the trail at about the halfway point.

About 45 minutes west of Fort Worth, Mineral Wells was a world renowned health resort in the 19th century thanks to the well water, which was believed to have curative powers. Today, you can still buy some of the crazy water but better yet, why not enjoy a dip at Lake Mineral Wells State Park? The park's 20-mile trailway follows an abandoned rail path, making it a car-free trail for hiking, biking and horseback riding. The park is also popular with rock climbers.
