Train Ride from New York City to Chicago with Amtrak
Our one week in New York City felt like it was merely a couple of days. A whirlwind tour of the Big Apple left us wanting to linger; however, the lure of the Chicago had us hopping on an Amtrak train again for our longest train journey of our three week trip. With comfortable seats and plenty of legroom, we devoted many of the long hours we had to kill to reading books and catching up on work on our computers. The highlight of the journey for us both was the fancy dining cart. Although our meal wasn't cheap, it was quite the experience sitting in a nice dining cart and being served a three course meal. We don't splurge often but when we do we thoroughly enjoy it.

The nice weather of New York faded by the time we got closer to Chicago. It started to rain quite heavily; however, the scenery was still fascinating and we ended up napping the rest of the way.
These two trips with Amtrak certainly helped improve our opinion of overland travel in the United States. If we do another American road trip we'll definitely take the train again.

Why Daycare Is So Expensive In America
Child care costs vary from state to state, even county to county. But there is one common thread across the country – it's really expensive. Both parents and child care providers are struggling to make ends meet with the rising cost of child care.
Raising a kid in America is expensive. The cost of child care has nearly tripled since 1990, which is more than the overall rate of inflation.
The price families pay varies from state to state, even county to county. But in many places, it costs more to send a toddler to day care than it does to pay for housing, transportation or even college tuition.
There is good reason child care is so expensive — it's a very involved, labor-driven industry.
But the tension around the cost of child care in the U.S. really boils down to who foots the bill. In countries like Denmark and Sweden, the government covers much of the child care costs. In America, the costs are generally shouldered by parents and providers.
Federal child care funding in the U.S. has been in a perpetual ebb and flow in response to cultural values. During World War II, the federal government came the closest it's ever been to having universal child care.
Now, with the 2020 election coming up, some candidates are making it a priority.
Watch the video above to learn about the history of child care in America and how rising costs are impacting families today.

Isa chante New York State of Mind
NO COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT INTENDED. FOR YOUR ENTERTAINMENT (AND MINE …) ONLY
I heard this song for the first time when I was on a bus taking a sightseeing tour of New York last week and I thought it would be very nice if I could cover it. So here is my version of it. I illustrated the videos with photos I took during my stay. New York State of Mind is a song written by Billy Joel which initially appeared on the album Turnstiles in 1976. William Martin Billy Joel (born May 9, 1949) is an American pianist, singer-songwriter, and composer. Since releasing his first hit song, Piano Man, in 1973, Joel has become the sixth best-selling recording artist and the third best-selling solo artist in the United States. He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame (1992), the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (1999), and the Long Island Music Hall of Fame (2006).
LYRICS :
Some folks like to get away,
Take a holiday from the neighborhood.
Hop a flight to Miami Beach or to Hollywood.
But I'm takin' a Greyhound on the Hudson River line.
I'm in a New York state of mind.
I've seen all the movie stars in their fancy cars and their limousines.
Been high in the Rockies under the evergreens.
I know what I'm needin', and I don't want to waste more time.
I'm in a New York state of mind.
It was so easy livin' day by day
Out of touch with the rhythm and blues
But now I need a little give and take
The New York Times, the Daily News.
It comes down to reality, and it's fine with me cause I've let it slide.
I don't care if it's Chinatown or on Riverside.
I don't have any reasons,
I left them all behind.
I'm in a New York state of mind.
INSTRUMENTAL
It was so easy living day by day
Out of touch with the rhythm and blues
But now I need a little give and take
The New York Times, the Daily News.
It comes down to reality, and it's fine with me cause I've let it slide.
I don't care if it's Chinatown or on Riverside.
I don't have any reasons.
I left them all behind.
I'm in a New York state of mind.
I'm just taking a Greyhound on the Hudson River line.
Cause I'm in a, I'm in a New York state of mind
TRADUCTION :
Loin du rhythm and blues

Statue of Liberty - New York City, New York
Check out Bas Rutten's Liver Shot on MMA Surge:
Mahalo travel expert Asha K. tells you all you want to know about the Statue of Liberty in New York City.
History
---------------------------------------------------------------------
The Statue of Liberty was a gift to the United States by the French government in 1876; it was completed in France in July of 1884 and arrived in New York Harbor in June of 1885 in 350 individual pieces to be reassembled on her pedestal.c The statue was in honor of America's 100th birthday and in recognition of the positive relationship forged between the two countries during the American Revolution.c The statue was dedicated on October 28, 1886. It wasn't until 1924 that it was designated as a National Monument. On July 4, 1986 the Statue of Liberty was restored for her centennial celebration.c
A Famous Designer
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Alexandre Gustave Eiffel, most famous for building the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France, built the steel framework for the Statue of Liberty, now one of the world's most recognizable icons.c It was sculptor Frederic Auguste Bartholdi who was commissioned to design the statue, however.
Location and Admittance
---------------------------------------------------------------------
The Statue of Liberty is located on Liberty Island, just outside of New York City. You can take a ferry from Battery Island in Lower Manhattan. Along with a ferry ticket, if you want to enter the museum and the statue's base need to purchase a complimentary museum pedestal ticket.c While there is no entree free for the monument, ferry tickets range in price from $5 for children 4-12 to $13 for adults 13 years of age and older. Seniors may purchase ferry tickets for $10.c
Visitation and Tickets
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Due to the thousands of people who visit the Statue of Liberty on a daily basis, reservations are required for visits. Reserve your tickets by calling 1-877-LADY-TIX or by visiting statuecruises.com. Do not be surprised to encounter waiting times in excess of 90 minutes while boarding the ferry or waiting for admittance to the statue. Make note than visits to the crown are limited to 240 visitors a day, so head out early to assure admittance.c

List of city nicknames in the United States
This partial list of city nicknames in the United States compiles the aliases, sobriquets and slogans that cities are known by, officially and unofficially, to municipal governments, local people, outsiders or their tourism boards or chambers of commerce. City nicknames can help in establishing a civic identity, helping outsiders recognize a community or attracting people to a community because of its nickname; promote civic pride; and build community unity. Nicknames and slogans that successfully create a new community 'ideology or myth' are also believed to have economic value. Their economic value is difficult to measure, but there are anecdotal reports of cities that have achieved substantial economic benefits by 'branding' themselves by adopting new slogans.
The top-ranked nickname in the survey was New York City's 'The Big Apple,' followed by 'Sin City', 'The Big Easy', 'Motor City', and 'The Windy City'. In addition to the number-two nickname, Las Vegas had the top-rated slogan: 'What Happens Here, Stays Here.' The second- through fifth-place slogans were 'So Very Virginia', 'Always Turned On', 'Cleveland Rocks!', and 'The Sweetest Place on Earth'.
Some unofficial nicknames are positive, while others are derisive. The unofficial nicknames listed here have been in use for a long time or have gained wide currency.

Take a walk up 59th street in Manhattan. also known as Central Park South because it is right before the start of the famous Central Park in New York City.
We start walking at Grand Army Plaza, wall around Columbus Circle, and end off on Central Park West.
Filmed on September 16th 2019 with happiness
Wikipedia writes:
Columbus Circle is a traffic circle and heavily trafficked intersection in the New York City borough of Manhattan, located at the intersection of Eighth Avenue, Broadway, Central Park South (West 59th Street), and Central Park West, at the southwest corner of Central Park. The circle is the point from which official highway distances from New York City are measured, as well as the center of the 25 miles (40 km) restricted-travel area for C-2 visa holders.
The circle is named after the monument of Christopher Columbus in the center, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The name is also used for the neighborhood that surrounds the circle for a few blocks in each direction. To the southwest of the circle lies Hell's Kitchen (also known as Clinton), to the southeast is the Theater District, and to the north is the Upper West Side.
59th Street is a crosstown street in the New York City borough of Manhattan, running from York Avenue/Sutton Place to the West Side Highway, with a discontinuity between Ninth Avenue/Columbus Avenue and Eighth Avenue/Central Park West where the Time Warner Center is located. At Second Avenue, 59th Street branches off onto the Ed Koch Queensboro Bridge, which is often referred to as the 59th Street Bridge,[1] even though 59th Street continues east to York Avenue/Sutton Place.
The portion of the street forming the southern boundary of Central Park from Columbus Circle at Eighth Avenue/Central Park West on the west to Grand Army Plaza at Fifth Avenue on the east is known as Central Park South. Entry into Central Park can be made at the Scholars' Gate at Fifth Avenue, the Artists' Gate at Sixth Avenue, the Artisans' Gate at Seventh Avenue, and the Merchants' Gate at Columbus Circle. Central Park South contains four famous upscale hotels: the Plaza Hotel, the Ritz-Carlton, which is the flagship of the Ritz-Carlton chain, the Park Lane, and JW Marriott Essex House, and a notable residential building, the Gainsborough Studios.

Blackwater Owner Prince Moves to Abu Dhabi
The owner of the private military firm Blackwater, Erik Prince, has reportedly left the United States and moved to the United Arab Emirates. The New York Times reports Prince has set up shop in Abu Dhabi, where he hopes to win focus on security work from governments in Africa and the Middle East. Independent journalist and Democracy Now! correspondent Jeremy Scahill was the first to report Prince's moving plans two months ago. Five of Prince's deputies were indicted on weapons charges in April, and Prince put Blackwater up for sale in June. At the time, Scahill said Prince may have favored a move to the UAE in part because it has no extradition treaty with the United States. A colleague of Prince's told the New York Times, He needs a break from America.
