Outer Banks Beach Report: May 5, 2014
Good morning everyone and welcome to another Outer Banks beach report from Seaside Vacations.
Congratulations to everyone who participated in the Flying Pirate 5k and Half Marathon this past weekend. They sold out of tickets for the race for another consecutive year.
Beach Report This weekend's weather was absolutely perfect on the Outer Banks. Temperatures were in the low 70's with only a little bit of wind no more than 10 mph. There were a ton of vacationers taking advantage of the ideal spring weather by beach coming and sunbathing all weekend.
High of only 62 degrees today on the OBX paired with mostly sunny skies. There is a chance for some isolated thunderstorms this afternoon and into this evening. Expect winds from the NNE at around 14 mph for a portion of today.
Surfing Report Ocean water temperatures this morning are in the low 50's and chilly. Surf is about thigh high and clean. The wave action isn't as good as it was on Friday or Saturday, but a solid day for anyone interested in learning how to surf. You typically don't want to learn how to ride waves on a surfboard or stand up paddleboard unless the water is fairly calm.
You can save on surfing or SUP lessons with Farmdog Surf School through our Club Seaside program. The webcam on our website located at Jennette's Pier in Nags Head, NC is back up and running. You can get a look at the current conditions before you go.
The first high tide of the day was at 12:04 am and the next high tide will be at 12:42 pm. Low tide was earlier this morning at 6:38 am and the next low tide will be this evening at 6:41 pm.
Fishing Report TW's Bait and Tackle reporting that drum fishing was off the hook on Sunday. There was also some great trout fishing for surf anglers as well in Kill Devil Hills and Nags Head.
Reportedly there were approximately 400 drum caught yesterday around Outer Banks Pier. The school of fish hung out around the pier for four hours and some anglers ended up with 40 drum each.
Thanks for checking out today's beach report and if you want to do something special for mom this year, why not take her to the Outer Banks? We have a Mother's Day promotion going on right now that includes 10% off your week-long stay as well as free early check-in and free late check-out ($180 value).
We hope to see you soon.... have fun!

I stopped at Sutton Avenue Beach Access this morning. It was 77 degrees and we have a light breeze blowing. The season is in full swing right now, lots of visitors here.
Summer Surf. Fun but good riddance.
