SUBSCRIBE: - Located in the village of Faros, 10 km east of Agios Kirikos, Faros Beach is a popular resort in the beautiful Greek island of Ikaria (Icaria). The sandy-pebble beach stretches a long distance, running the full length of the village Faros and it is an ideal place to stay for a few days with a variety of rooms, studios and apartments for rent on and behind the beach.
Icaria, also spelled Ikaria, is a Greek island in the Aegean Sea, 10 nautical miles southwest of Samos. According to tradition, it derives its name from Icarus, the son of Daedalus in Greek mythology, who was believed to have fallen into the sea nearby.
Greece is a country in southeastern Europe with thousands of islands throughout the Aegean and Ionian seas. Influential in ancient times, it's often called the cradle of Western civilization. Athens, its capital, retains landmarks including the 5th-century B.C. Acropolis citadel with the Parthenon temple. Greece is also known for its beaches, from the black sands of Santorini to the party resorts of Mykonos.

Faros is a sheltered harbour and fishing village 7 km from Apollonia. It was the island’s main port until 1883 and is named after the ancient tower (Faros being the Greek word for lighthouse) on the beach (where the footpath from Faros to Glyfo begins today). On the waterfront at Faros is a small stone theatre which hosts a variety of cultural events during the summer season.
In Faros there are three small sandy beaches:
The central beach, where the asphalt road ends, has spectacular views of Chrisopigi. It also has a number of restaurants, cafés, bars and a grocery store.
The beach at Glyfou is so named for the well of brackish water which has been there since ancient times, and is still there today, to the right of Faros beach. From Glyfou begins the beautiful paved footpath (illuminated at night) leading to the beaches of Apokoftou and Chrysopigi. To the right of the beach, the steps to leading to the ancient mines and the remains of the old ore-loading facilities are visible.
Lastly, there is Fasolou, to the left of Faros beach, where there is a restaurant and rooms to let. The Monastery of Stavros (the Cross) in Faros is also to be found at Fasolou.
Hiking trails starting at Faros lead to the Acropolis on the hill of Agios Andreas and Kastro.

The Lighthouse at Keri is on the western coast of Zakynthos, and definitely a sight worth seeing. The lighthouse is built on the edge of a steep cliff, and the view from this point is breathtaking. This spot is a popular place to watch the sunset.

Akrotiri is located at the axis of the sea route of Piraeus -- Alexandria and bears a lighthouse which is one of the best of Greek network. Located 18 kilometers from Fira at an altitude of 58 meters, the lighthouse was built in 1892 during the Ottoman reign by the French company La Société Collas et Michel. It initially operated with oil and its beam reach was 23 nautical miles. It was renovated in 1925. Its operation was suspended during World War II and began again in 1945. During this time it emitted a flash every 30 seconds. In 1983 it was adapted to operate electrically and in 1988 it became fully automated and has since continued to exude the maximum luminescence. Today its beam reach is 24 nautical miles.

Φάρος, Σίφνος / Faros Sifnos Greece
Ο Φάρος βρίσκεται στα Ν.Α. της Σίφνου και θεωρείται το ασφαλέστερο λιμάνι του νησιού, του οποίου και ήταν το επίσημο λιμάνι έως το 1883. Το όνομά του οφείλεται στην εγκατάσταση φάρου, στην είσοδο του λιμανιού για την ναυσιπλοΐα, ο οποίος σήμερα βρίσκεται στα Ν.Α. της εισόδου του λιμανιού και παράπλευρα στο μοναστήρι του Σταυρού, από το οποίο η θέα προς τη Χρυσοπηγή και τα απέναντι νησιά είναι μαγευτική!
