Fay Canyon Trail Sedona AZ
Good canopy and cool canyon bottom make for an excellent hike. Trail is a loose red powder. Some rocky parts where the trail crosses an old dry/seasonal creek bed. Watch out for bears.
Fay Canyon Trail is a 2.6 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Sedona, Arizona that features a waterfall and is good for all skill levels. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
Fay Canyon Trail | Beautiful Views and Ancient Ruins
Fay Canyon, one of Sedona’s best day hikes, is a 2.3 mile long back trail near Sedona, AZ. The first half of the hike is beginner friendly and easily accessible, being at the bottom of the canyon with lots of tree cover for shade. At the end of the maintained trail, more intrepid hikers have the option of following the smaller unmaintained trails that take you on a loop around the back wall of the canyon, with other smaller trails branching off and leading to beautiful lookouts and other sweet little secret spots! This is a year-round access trail, and is dog friendly as long as you obey the leash laws and pick up after your pet! Offers scenic views of the red rocks and the Sedona area.

TRAVEL DAYS TO SEDONA ARIZONA - FAY CANYON TRAIL HIKE-EP36
Sue & I usually try to keep our “travel days” in the range of 200 to 250 miles per move. On the Interstate, I set the cruise at 64 mph, because it’s comfortable, safer and the Honda we pull has a 65 mph limit. It puts the 450 hp diesel motor in the sweet spot for the best mileage.
We are tracking mileage, and I wish I had better news. It’s about 6.5 mpg. My kids are never going to get an inheritance at this rate!
When just moving long distances, and NOT actually site seeing, some people pull into a Walmart, Cabela’s or Cracker Barrel for an overnight stay, for free. We have never done this and feel we are just too long at 65 feet to fit in easily.
This is our own insecurities,…many people this long and driving a motorhome do it. I wouldn’t blame the local kids if they tried to do burnouts around us in the parking lot at 2am,…….just to be funny. I know I would have when I was young! I also worry about getting “parked in” by someone,……and global warming.
This quick clip shows Sue wiping off the rig after our days run, with me supervising and recording the event. Then, it's my turn, and I take over,..... and cook us both a great late evening dinner. Thanks to our friend Brian for teaching me some of his barbecuing skills! The recipe I used here is actually one I created for myself over the years.
We chose to only hook up electric so we can take off early tomorrow to grind out another 201 miles. The campground showers were actually first class here,………. but you really can never beat showering at home.
We are headed to Tucson AZ for a week, Mesa AZ for a week, Sedona AZ for 10 days, then Yuma AZ for December 2018. Still wearing shorts after 17 months on the road!
On our way to Sedona Arizona, we stopped at a rest stop to eat some lunch. SUE made a wonderful beef stew the night before, and needs to get credit for it here! We were here quite a while and we didn’t notice some of the scenery till we were leaving to go into the rig to start microwaving lunch,…………….
Finally in Sedona, Sue and I went on a short 2 mile round trip hike on Saturday, 11-24-2018. It was called the Fay Canyon Trail, and was surrounded by towering sandstone mountains. The movies and pictures pale in comparison to how they look in person.

Sedona-Jerome-Devils Bridge, Cathedral Rock, Fay Canyon Trails Sedona
#sedona #jeromearizona #devilsbridgesedona
#cottonwoodarizona #sedonaarizonawinter
This week we continue RVing to Sedona and Jerome staying at Dead Horse Ranch State Park in Cottonwood just outside of both Sedona and Jerome Arizona. We did a lot of hiking in Sedona at the Cathedral Rock Trail, Devils Bridge Trail and the Fay Canyon Trail. Hiking Cathedral Rock trail we had to stop before going all the way up on account of Nikki. So we then hiked around the Templeton Trail that went around Cathedral Rock. That was a nice easy hike and filled with awesome view of Cathedral Rock. Devils Bridge Trail was really fun as we got to drive closer to the trail head with the 4X4 capabilities of our truck. The Devils Bridge Trail was a little tougher in a couple places as we had to do a couple steep rock scrambles with Nikki, but she did awesome! We didn't actually get to go out on the Devils Bridge itself but we did make it to it and watched a few other people going on the bridge to take pics! After that we hiked the Fay Canyon Trail which was 1 mile out and 1 mile back and was an easy hike.
The following morning we did some exploring in Jerome Arizona which was only a few miles from our campsite at Dead Horse Ranch State Park. This was an old copper mining town built on the side of a mountain. It was really cool to see each street was on a different level. Jerome Arizona is one of the coolest old ghost towns we've seen so far and look forward to going back someday and spending more time there exploring.
Sedona Arizona winter was really beautiful with just some snow on the rocks, but much much more comfortable than the temps at the Grand Canyon. Made hiking just perfect!

Secret Canyon - Sedona, AZ - Trail Guide to backpacking in the Secret Canyon Wilderness
Secret Canyon - Sedona, AZ
Here's a trail guide to backpack the Secret Canyon Trail, located in the Secret Canyon Wilderness of Sedona, AZ. Secret Canyon is a remote and lightly trafficked out and back hike. It can be done as a day hike or an overnight. It features an arch, waterfall, pine trees and amazing views that Sedona is known for, only without all the people. The long and rough road to access the trailhead is a deterrent for many. You can walk down it to the trailhead, but it's a miserably 7 mile (total) slog with full sun exposure, jeep traffic and lots of ups and downs. However, if you can get there, Secret Canyon is a great hike that offers all the good parts of Sedona only with more solitude.

Wilson Mountain Hike - Sedona, Arizona
Wilson Mountain is the highest point above the beautiful Sedona red rock area in Arizona.
From the top of the mesa there is a magnificent panoramic view of the Oak Creek valley and the many prominent rock formations surrounding Sedona. The trailhead is just north of town, and rises gradually the first two miles, before steep switchbacks take you around to the north side of the mountain where you enter a forest of towering pine, oak, and aspen trees.

Cathedral Rock hike, Sedona, Arizona (HD)
This was my wife and I hiking Cathedral Rock outside #Sedona. It was smoky out however the views were still excellent. Apparently the 2nd most popular hike in Arizona next to the Grand Canyon. Enjoy. #thenorthface @thenorthface #keencanada #keen #keenfootwear
Photography at Red Rock Crossing, Sedona, Arizona
To see the full-resolution images from Red Rock Crossing in Sedona, Arizona, check out the post on my travel photography blog:
About the Video:
My visit to Red Rock Crossing in Sedona, Arizona this past week was all about redemption. I went to red rock crossing in 2012 and shot it, but I didn't do a very good job of it. I shot too wide angle and made the scene look far smaller than it actually is. I also didn't have a gradient ND filter which meant that my exposure was a bit funny. However, this trip I got it right. And if I didn't look back and my images and learn from the mistakes I made before, I wouldn't have gotten it right this time.
The biggest thing I fixed this year was shooting the image on a telephoto lens rather than a wide angle. And, quite obviously you can see that this year's image of Red Rock Crossing is about 100 times better than back in 2012.
Anyways, lots of cool stuff coming up from this American Road Trip so stay tuned!
