The Romanovs’ last foreign trip before World War I
In June 1914 the Romanov family made a trip to Constanta to visit the King of Romania, Carol I. The royal families wanted to unite the dynasties by marrying the King’s son Carol and the daughter of Nicholas II Olga, but Olga didn’t want to marry Carol and leave Russia. Although together with her sisters Olga came up with a plan to avoid marriage, it would have never happened anyway - a month later World War I broke, marking the visit to Romania as the last foreign trip the Romanovs took before the war.
