But theaters are able to keep over 80% of concessions revenue as profit. So most theaters are designed to get you to spend money on food. Democrats are trying to build a case that Trump sought to withhold military assistance and an Oval Office meeting until Ukraine announced investigations into former vice president Joe Biden and his son. So far, seven people have testified publicly.
William B. Taylor Jr., the acting ambassador to Ukraine, and George Kent, the deputy assistant secretary of state responsible for Ukraine, testified on Wednesday, Nov. 13.
Marie Yovanovitch, the former ambassador to Ukraine, testified on Friday, Nov. 15.
On Tuesday, Nov. 19, Congress heard from Lt. Col. Alexander S. Vindman, the top Ukraine expert for the National Security Council, Jennifer Williams, Vice President Pence’s special adviser on Europe and Russia, Kurt D. Water Pollution from Pulp and Paper Mills 1964 Water Pollution Report US Senate
During the nineteenth and early twentieth century, industry dominated all three of Maine's major rivers: the Androscoggin, Kennebec,and Penobscot. But it was pollution from the pulp and paper mills that made the Androscoggin truly inhospitable to salmon and other fish. Papermaking involves two separate steps: first the pulp is created out of wood or rags, and then the actual paper is created. Pulping generated the greatest pollution in New England rivers, and wood pulp, which first came into use in Maine along the Androscoggin in 1868, was the most polluting. In 1941, houses along the river freshly painted white turned to black as hydrogen sulfide rising from the water reacted with the paint, a direct result of pollution from upstream pulp and paper mills. Conditions like this finally prompted Maine residents along the Androscoggin River to demand that something be done. In 1942 an engineering report submitted to the attorney general of Maine, noted that few streams in the United States of comparable size show evidences of such extreme pollution, most of which came from three major pulp and paper mills. For a detailed look this history, read Wallace Scot McFarlane's recent article, Defining a Nuisance: Pollution, Science, and Environmental Politics on Maine's Androscoggin River, published in Environmental History in April 2012 and available at : . The pulp and paper industry is the largest industrial process water user in the U. General water pollution concerns for pulp and paper mills are effluent solids, biochemical oxygen demand, and color. Toxicity concerns historically occurred from the potential presence of chlorinated organic compounds such as dioxins, furans, and others in wastewaters after the chlorination/extraction sequence. With the substitution of chlorine dioxide for chlorine, effluent loads of the chlorinated compounds decreased dramatically. After decades of pollution control efforts, some of the Androscoggin River has never met state or federal standards for clean water. Although the river is much cleaner than it used to be, it is still plagued by many problems. Go to the website of the Androscoggin River Alliance at for current information and issues. The film highlights community efforts to solve the problem, time factors involved, thermal and chemical pollution and the need for more research in the field of water quality. This unique film was prepared as a report of the Sub-committee on Air and Water Pollution of the Senate Committee on Public Works of the 88th Congress at the behest of the Chairman, Senator Muskie (Maine). It was produced under the guidance of Muskie's Subcommittee staff, based on a 1963 staff study on water pollution. That study and this film were helpful in the passage of the Water Quality Act of 1965, during the first month of the 89th Congress.
