Tokyo Fire Museum | TigerMomKittenDaddy
bofore we visited Japan, Tiger Mom found out there's a fire museum in Shinjuku Tokyo where kids can play out fire fighters fantasies. So it became as one of our places to visit while in Japan.
The Fire Museum is conveniently located right above Yotsuya-Sanchome station (just 3 stops from Shinjuku Station via Tokyo Metro). The full address is Japan, 〒160-0004 Tokyo, Shinjuku, Yotsuya, 3 Chome−10番. It opens almost everyday from 930am to 5pm daily except Monday. The best thing is they offer free entrance.
When we were there, Declan was so happy that he didn't want to go leave the fire museum. He saw all his Tomica collections true to size. While in the Fire Museum, Declan had a chance to dress up and play out as fire fighter too. It was an unforgettable experience for Declan and us as parents. Overall, the trip is very educational. We learned a lot on how Japanese put out fires in the past and what tools they used.
For those who wishes to visit, we highly recommend!

FIRE RESPONSE Tokyo Fire Department Shinjuku Fire Station
The Shinjuku Fire Station gets dispatched to a fire. You can see a rescue truck, two pumpers and a command van responding. The ladder was probably cancelled as the crew was in turnout gear but didn't hop in the truck. An ambulance was also responding later, however probably to another call.

Shinjuku Robot Restaurant Show & Tokyo Fire Museum
In today's vlog, The Lovelys get out and explore more of Tokyo! They hit up Shinjuku for the famous Robot Restaurant Show which DOES NOT disappoint! The Shinjuku Robot Restaurant is an absolute must-do while in tokyo! Our kids loved it, so yes! The Robot Show is kid friendly! Although very much so a tourist attraction, we feel that the robot show is an excellent super Japanses-y thing to experience that you have to do!
Another Kid friendly attraction in Tokyo is the Fire Museum! The kids really loved playing around in the museum, it was very interactive! And the best part about the Tokyo Fire Museum is IT IS FREE! Free family entertainment in tokyo, japan is a no brainer!!

For this part of our family Tokyo trip, we explore the Tokyo Toy Museum before saying our goodbyes to downtown Tokyo. If you are wondering what to do to fill a day in Tokyo that is fun for the kids (and the family!), head over to Shinjuku and visit the Tokyo Toy Museum. We are so glad we made this trip there because Akari definitely walked away with such a memorable experience. Also featured in this video: a hidden gem for coffee lovers in Shibuya, a quick visit to the Tokyo Fire Museum, and making our way out of Shibuya into Tokyo Disney Resort territory!

Details and Places Mentioned:
- Tokyo Metro System-
- Tsukuyomi Coffee: 2-chome-7-2 Dogenzaka Shibuya City (
Hidden just a couple blocks away from Shibuya Crossing, is this cute (and very tiny) cafe! I ordered the sweet bean and butter sandwich (600 yen), which tasted amazing. They also have savory breakfast sandwiches you can enjoy alongside your morning coffee! I highly recommend this cafe if you need a break from the noisy and busy streets of Shibuya.
- Fire Museum by the Tokyo Fire Department: 3 Chome-10 Yotsuya, Shinjuku City, Tokyo 160-0004, Japan (
Connected to the subway station, this free museum offers fun for both kids and adults. Lots of interactive displays and games as well as educational and historical overview of fire fighting in Japan. It’s a great place to supplement your visit to the Tokyo Toy Museum (which is only a 5 minute walk away).
- Tokyo Toy Museum: Japan, 4 Chome-20 Yotsuya, Shinjuku City, Tokyo 160-0004 (
If you have kids, you definitely need to take them to the Tokyo Toy Museum. We could have spent all day here if we could! First floor has special exhibits (toy collections from each era of Japan, as well as from all over the world), gift shop, and the Wood Toy Forest. The second floor has more interactive displays, including pretend play, scientific toys, musical instruments, board games for all ages, and various traditional wooden Japanese toys. Be sure to sign up for the toy workshop! During this workshop, your child is taught in a Japanese style classroom how to make their own toy! All of this is included in your admission. Such an amazing experience for Akari and for us, we will definitely be back!
- Oriental Hotel Tokyo Bay (
Official Tokyo Disney Resort hotel and our last hotel to spend the last 2 days of our Tokyo trip. It is located only 10-15 minutes away from Tokyo Disney Resort. Don’t forget to check out the first two videos I uploaded of our Tokyo trip to check out the Disney portion of our trip!

Japan National Museum of Nature & Science With Kids - Dinosaur Bones ????????- Tokyo for Kids 2019
One of the best things to do in Tokyo with Kids is the National Museum of Nature and Science in Ueno park for a family fun learning experience for kids.
Please click the Like ???? & Subscribe buttons:
Huge Brontosaurus ????, T-Rex ????, Triceratops, Stegosaurus, Prehistoric Monster-like Turtles & Elephants and much more! Our kiddos were so excited to see the dinosaur bones in real life. The exhibits are amazing and you get a feel for how humongous the dinosaurs were compared to us tiny humans. Lots of full sets of dinosaur bones on display as well as prehistoric human skeletons to compare the evolution of cavemen. Also see monstrous creatures that lived a million years ago to current animals and sea creatures. It was definitely a highlight of our kids trip and one they will remember!
Within the museum there is also a fun kids indoor playroom, however reservations are required more than a day in advance!
The Tokyo Nature & Science museum is right next to the Ueno Zoo. There are handful of other museums to explore too but this one is the best in Tokyo for kids. During April in the springtime, Ueno park is also a hot spot for cherry blossom viewings, but it is crazy crowded as you can see in the video.
The National Museum of Nature and Science in Ueno park is in Ueno park near the Ueno Train station.
Our Ueno Museum & Park Itinerary for kids:
- 11am - National Museum of Nature and Science (Allow at least 2-3 hours) I don’t recommend combining this with the zoo or other museums if you are traveling with kids.
- 1pm - Walk through Ueno Park towards the Shinobazuno Pond. You will need to walk around the park if you have a stroller due to stairs. But it is not too far out of the way with a stroller.
- 2pm - On the weekends there are Japanese street food stands in the shrine of Shinobazuno Pond. Great place for a snack or lunch.
- 2:30pm - Rent a swan boat in Shinobazuno pond.
Thanks for watching and let us know if you have any questions or comments!

Vlog#1 Fire museum adventure
#firemusuem#adventure#sightseeing#tokyo#
Tokyo's Fire Museum, dedicated to the history of fire-fighting in the city, is housed in the fortress-like Yotsuya Fire Station in Shinjuku Ward. The museum offers a vivid introduction to both past and current fire-fighting efforts. Admission is free and most exhibits come with English-language explanations.
Tokyo Toy Museum 東京おもちゃ美術館
The Tokyo Toy Museum (or 東京おもちゃ美術館 in Japanese) is just east of Shinjuku, in the Yotsuya sanchome area, and a lot of people probably miss it because it's not especially close to any stations. But if you have young kids, it's really worth the visit to see so many fun wooden toys.

Official Tokyo Toy Museum website:
The museum looks to be sort of an impromptu display in an old school, which is pretty amazing considering how well it is put together. You'll find a number of floors, each with a variety of displays and sometimes even activities for kids to partake in.

【Tokyo Guide】Old life style of Japan#1(Ueno Shitamachi Museum)
This museum was established to teach future generations about the culture of the shitamachi. The shitamachi was originally an area of Edo* where the common people lived. The word shitamachi is composed of the word shita meaning down and machi meaning town, and one can often see it translated into English literally as downtown. However, shitamachi is not the same as the English word downtown, which refers to a city's central businessdistrict. The shitamachi name originated from the actual level of the land in the area. In Edo, the land to the south-east of Edo Castle (now the Imperial Palace) was lowlands, and the land to the north-west was a plateau, and during the formative years of the city, the lowlands became the place where artisans and merchants lived. This lowlands area near Edo Castle became known as shitamachi.
There were many unique qualities that defined the shitamachi and still exercise an influence over the area today. For example, the shitamachi's high population density resulted in the building of crowded tenement houses called nagaya. These nagaya were made of wood and built very close together, which rendered the region highly susceptible to fire. This living environment bred a people with a unique disposition and way of life. The culture of the shitamachi is the culture of Tokyo's common people, and it contributed greatly to the culture of Edo just as it contributes to Tokyo as a city today.
People's lifestyles change when their living environment changes, and old culture is naturally lost over time. In 1868, Edo was renamed Tokyo and the city began to modernize, but traces of the old ways remained in the shitamachi. The massive destruction caused by the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923 and the wartime fires of 1945, and the reconstruction following these disasters are what really changed Tokyo. The 1960s saw a development boom spurred on by the 1964 Tokyo Summer Olympics, and this era also saw a dramatic increase in the use of electric appliances, all which further sped the degree of change in the city. The initial movement for the establishment of this museum began during that time.
During this period of rapid change the people did gain convenience and comfort, but they began to lose or forget many other things. The desire to somehow preserve these things for future generations was the basis for founding the museum. Many supporters from within Taito-ku and beyond contributed a variety of items, and the Shitamachi Museum opened in 1980.
