Finally I could whip out my camera to do a little bit of vlogging. I bring you guys to Ehwa Womens University Station for this one. I really like this place cause the stuff here is really quite cheap, compared to places like Myeongdong, Hongdae or even Dongdaemun. Quite easy to walk from Ehwa - Sinchon - Hongdae, all by feet!
The show was REALLY fun to watch, no worries if you cannot speak Korean at all cause everything was body language - my mom could understand everything. If anything, they actually speak more English than Korean - but mostly they're all phrases! ♥️

Arts Avenue 2016 _ Fireman(파이어맨)
Performance
Fireman
Fireman is a nonverbal performance about firefighter trainees with elements of parkour and acrobatics. Having firefighters as the main characters, the performers roll onstage and jump over obstacles to show the intensive training firefighters go through. By reminding us of the real heroes in our lives, this performance encourages people to better appreciate firefighters and the role they play to protect all of us.

Real Life Heroes. Firefighters, their story
소방관의 달 특집 소방관... 그들의 이야기
Firefighters earn deserving admiration and respect.
Here in Korea November is a month dedicated to honoring these courageous and selfless heroes.
Our Moon Connyoung went out to a fire station in Seoul for their stories.
It's quarter past midnight but firefighter Sohn Hong-sung's day has just begun.
Working 12 hour shifts in three rotations, Sohn is one of the nearly one-hundred firefighters here at Seocho fire station..
Why are these set up this way?
Each firefighter has his/her own way, but we set up our gear to minimize response time. To move out more efficiently and swiftly.
And, upon return, it's set up this way again... the firefighter tells me... so that they can get on the truck more swiftly next time.
Dispatch. Dispatch.
00:56 a.m.
First run
From Gwacheon to Seocho direction.
Are you outside of the Umyeon-san Tunnel?
Engine 8. Approaching site, approaching site.
It's 1 am on a Friday night and there's been a report of a car on fire. And, one of the first responders to get here have been the firefighters.
We were rushed out here in the middle of our interview. What happened?
It looks like the vehicle caught fire due to engine overheating.
We're ready to respond to emergency at all times whether that's in the middle of an interview or a meal.
Medical calls and extraditing crash victims to rescuing people from flooded rivebanks. Now add battling fire to the job description and you have the all around daily responsibility of firefighters.
Pyo Chang-won is a police expert-turned-lawmaker who has been advocating the need for a presumptive legislation similar to a Workers' Compensation Act for firefighters... in this country.
Pyo is calling for the approval of a bill that
would link a particular occupation with a disease or condition that has been shown to be a hazard associated with that profession... such as cancer for firefighters.
In the U.S., for instance, at least 33 out of the 50 states have a law in place that presumes if a firefighter gets cancer, it was likely caused by the job.
The adoption rate is even higher in Canada: In nine out of the country's ten provinces, such law is in place.
Korea must also pass a law similar to those in the U.S. and Canada so that the burden of proof shifts from the employee to the employer to demonstrate that the condition was not in fact associated with the occupation but with another cause.
It's the least we can do for those who put their lives on the line every time they go out on a call.

Firefighter Calendar Shoot
[Anchor Lead]
In an annual tradition, Korea’s firefighters have stripped off their heavy gear for the camera. Their strong, muscle-bound bodies will be featured in the 2018 edition of calendars for a good cause. All profits from calendar sales to assisting burn victims in need.
[Pkg]
Tanned skin, a rugged muscular body, and six-pack abs...They are buff firefighters who have gone topless to pose in front of the camera.
[Soundbite] A kiss for Daddy!
One firefighter even took a photo with his two-year-old son. The photographs were featured in a calendar for the year 2018. The 12 models were the firefighters who had entered Seoul's buff firefighter contest this year.
[Soundbite] Seong Ki-hyeon(Gangseo Fire Station, Seoul) : Firefighting is thought of as a hard and agonizing job. But I stepped up for this project to show the image of a strong and impressive firefighter.
[Soundbite] Fire, fire!
Firefighters have to be on call around the clock to deal with emergencies. But they took time out of their tight schedules to bulk up and tone their bodies for better-looking photos.
[Soundbite] Kim Yun-sik(Gangnam Fire Station, Seoul) : The hardest part was going to workout when I was tired from working all night long.
Symbolizing the emergency call number of 119, calendars of these strapping firefighters will be sold at 11,900 won each. All the profits from the calendar sales will go to treating serious burn victims who come from low-income households. Sales profits over the past three years amounted to roughly 230 million won and 55 burn patients benefited from the firefighters' charity.
Seoul (South Korea) Fire Engine Responding + Electric Fire Command Car
Seen here is a Seoul Metropolitan Fire Service engine responding by Seoul Station with emergency lights. The engine was most likely responding to a low priority call. The engine was followed by a kind of command vehicle also belonging to the Seoul Fire Service.

seoul vlog: fire
Hi everyone! Im on holiday in South Korea this winter. After a long night out with friends in Itaewon I returned to Hongdae to find a huge fire. Hongdae has a special place in my heart as its full of passionate, creative, friendly and progressive people. Its a wonderful place to be and its sad to see such a horrible thing like this occur. Especially on the first day of the year.
Its very typical that at 6AM people who are leaving clubs and bars are a bit drunk. So I apologize in advance for my own words and any others that you may here in this video. I saw some people laughing and I really think its because they were so shocked. I was personally just sad and scared.
I dont know if anyone was injured. How the fire started. When? Where? I have no idea. Im still waiting for news to be posted to some English news. Shout out to the firefighters and others for keeping us safe and preventing the fires from spreading to nearby apartments and hotels. They really risked their lives.
Happy New Years everyone. If anything be grateful for what you have in this life and the people you share it with this year.

S. Korean firefighters carry out nationwide drills to raise public awareness
골든타임을 지기키 위한 소방차 길 터주기 훈련 전국적으로 시행
For this year's civil defense training day, the South Korean Fire Agency has run a nationwide drill on the streets.
This is to raise awareness of the importance of yielding to emergency vehicles.
Won Jung-hwan reports.
It's the law as well as basic driving etiquette that drivers must pull over to let fire trucks through,… and pedestrians shouldn't cross the road until the emergency vehicles have passed.
But there have been cases reported where drivers and other obstacles have interfered with firefighters responding to emergencies.
In an attempt to raise public awareness and prevent such incidents in the future,… a nationwide drill to make way for emergency vehicles took place on Wednesday afternoon.
The drill saw 2-hundred-19 fire departments across South Korea send fire engines to 4-hundred-53 locations, with routes including congested roads and other areas with difficult entry points,... where the sound of sirens from emergency vehicles should lead to other vehicles moving out of the way.
Firefighters say the addition of the program to the country's civil defense training gives them the rare chance to actually do training operations on congested city streets.
It is rare to actually train in the city center where it is congested like here. That is why we need to ask people to move out of the way just like in a real situation,... to actually save people if tragic incidents ever happen.
Drivers who refuse to give way to fire trucks will have to change their ways, as one of the approved revisions last June has raised the maximum fine for such actions from 180 U.S. dollars to some 1-thousand-800 dollars.
It is true that the fines have been strengthened. We also have a strong rule that if a fire truck is ever blocked by an obstacle, that obstacle will be destroyed. All because saving lives is what comes first
The strengthened laws will ensure firefighters can perform their duties without fear of criminal prosecution or having to pay compensation,... so they can concentrate on doing their job,... saving people's lives.

Brave Firefighters
[Anchor Lead]
In our next story, we highlight brave firefighters in Korea who risk their lives to rescue others in times of emergency. It’s not uncommon for firefighters to dash headlong into a flaming building to save others.
[Pkg]
Last weekend, a three-story house in Seoul became engulfed in raging flames.
[Soundbite] Did the fire break out on the third floor? Is there an ambulance?
Five people were trapped in the burning house. They attempted to escape through windows because the exit was blocked by the flames.
[Soundbite] Bring a ladder! Quick!
While the residents were escaping one by one through a window, a firefighter was holding back the flames from the window. White smoke could be seen coming out of his fireproof suit. Unable to endure any longer, the firefighter eventually crashed to the ground.
[Soundbite] Recorded Communication : Who is the person who just crashed?
[Soundbite] Recorded Communication : A resident and a firefighter have crashed. Call five ambulances quickly!
The brave firefighter who blocked the flames with his body is Choi Kil-soo. He joined the squad less than two months ago. He says it's terrifying for him to think about what happened at the time, but he has no regrets.
[Soundbite] Choi Kil-soo(Firefighter, Seoul Yongsan Fire Station) : All I could think of was rescuing the residents. I was holding onto a handrail, but my gloves were already on fire.
Due to his hipbone fracture, Choi had to postpone his wedding, which was to take place three weeks later.
[Soundbite] Choi Kil-soo(Firefighter, Seoul Yongsan Fire Station) : My mission is to save people. I acted out of instinct rather than out of knowledge, because I had to carry out my mission.
Another firefighter, Chief Kim Sung-soo, who was fighting the fire along with Choi, is receiving treatment for second-degree burns on his face and hands.

Burning Giant: Video of high-rise on fire in South Korea
A massive fire broke out on Friday in a 38-floor apartment and office building in South Korea's southern port city of Busan. No deaths were reported. The fire official could not say how many people remained in the building, only that residents were still being rescued, some by helicopter from the building's roof. Busan, South Korea's second-largest city and a major seaport, is located about 400 km (250 miles) southeast of Seoul. The fire started early Friday morning in a janitor's closet on the fourth floor of the high-rise building located in the city's plush beachside Haeundae district.
