St. Augustine, FL: Exploring Europe's First American Settlement
I spend the first half of my full day in northeast Florida exploring St. Augustine, the oldest European-settled city in the continental United States. I had always wanted to go here, and I get to check out many cool sites from the Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park where I got to drink from the Fountain of Youth, check out the Castillo de San Marcos (although the interior was closed due to the U.S. government shutdown), walk around the historic district including the Colonial Quarter, and check out Fort Mose Historic State Park. St. Augustine is a fun city to explore, and I highly recommend it to everyone!
I am planning to upload another St. Augustine video soon which will serve as a quick guide to the city based on my experiences there.

St Augustine, Florida USA - Exploring America's Oldest City
Exploring the beautiful city St Augustine in Florida, USA.
St Augustine was founded in 1565 by Spanish explorers which makes it the oldest continuously inhabited settlement of continental United States.
St Augustine is easy to get to from Orlando and even though it’s only two hours away the relaxed atmosphere and its rich history is a million miles away from crowds and queues of the theme parks.
During our stay in St Augustine we stayed at the pretty water front Bayfront Marin House Inn which overlooks Matanzas Bay in the historic centre and is within easy walking distance of the city’s historic sites, museums, art galleries and restaurants.
Take the Red Train Trolley to get to know the layout of the historic city centre. You must visit the Castillo de San Marcos, the first masonry fort in the Americas, the Fountain of Youth, Flagler College (formerly Hotel Flagler's Ponce de Leon Hotel) and the St Augustine Lighthouse.

Visiting The Oldest City In The U.S. ???????? | St. Augustine, Florida [4K]
••• SUBSCRIBE TO MY CHANNEL HERE: •••
Hello world! Another vlog! This time around, I had the pleasure of visiting the oldest city in the United States, Saint Augustine, Florida. Well, the oldest city in the sense that it has been permanently occupied since 1565; it’s the first european settlement. I know the native americans were there before, but that’s why they stress that it is the oldest continuously occupied city in the United States and no it’s not Jamestown nor Plymouth Rock. Those were founded in 1607 and 1620 respectively. Saint Augustine was founded in 1565 by the Spanish Admiral and Explorer, Pedro Menéndez de Avilés.
While there, we were able to appreciate the European influence on this Florida town. The Spanish influence is evident in the architecture throughout the city with its cobblestone streets, quaint cafes, bars, unique shops. We ended up having a nice lunch at the Taberna del Caballo located in the Colonial Quarter on St. George Street.
The main attraction on this short trip was Castillo de San Marcos. It is the oldest structure in St. Augustine and the oldest masonry fort in the continental United States. It took 23 years to build the fort, and it was made of coquina, making it almost indestructible. It was first built to defend the Spaniards in the New World, but during the Revolutionary War, it was used as a military prison. The fort has had three different names in the past, Castillo de San Marcos was the original Spanish name, under English control the name was changed to Fort Saint Mark and finally when Florida became a U.S. territory the Americans called it Fort Marion. However, in 1942, Congress reverted the name back to the original “Castillo de San Marcos.” In 1924, the Castillo de San Marcos was recognized as a National Monument and preserved by the U.S. government.
Enjoy! Thanks for watching!

IDLE DAYS IN ST AUGUSTINE, FLORIDA: 1891 - FLORIDA HISTORY
This video provides a little hop back through time to St. Augustine, Florida to 1891 though the words of writer Frank H. Sweet. This story was published in Peterson's Magazine, December 1891. While Mr. Morrison is not the greatest public reader he gave it the old college try with this great piece. Hope you enjoy and be sure to give us a thumbs up, comment and subscribe. St. Augustine, Florida
St. Augustine (Spanish: San Agustín) is a city in Northeast Florida and the oldest continuously occupied European-established settlement and port in the continental United States. The county seat of St. Johns County, it is part of Florida's First Coast region and the Jacksonville metropolitan area. According to the 2010 census, the city population was 12,975. The St. Augustine urban area has a population of 69,173.
San Agustín was founded in September 1565 by Spanish admiral Pedro Menéndez de Avilés, and subsequently served as the capital of Spanish Florida for two hundred years. It remained the capital of East Florida as the territory changed hands between the Spanish and British, and remained the capital of the Florida Territory until it was moved to Tallahassee in 1824. Since the late 19th century, its historical character has made the city a major tourist attraction. It is the headquarters for the Florida National Guard.
