Hyder Alaska: Waiting for the Bears to Kill Me...
I am in Hyder, Alaska now. The torrential rains have kept the turbidity at Fish Creek in the Tongass National Forest high, and the bears don't like fishing when they can't see the fish. The weather will clear this weekend.
Lost of fish running at the moment. Pinks and the Cohos are about to come any day now...very light rain as of writing this morning (Saturday) here in Hyder.
Hyder, Alaska is a quaint little Alaska town that is getting a wee sleepy with the end of the tourist season nearly upon us.
Hyder is located at 55°56′29″N 130°3′16″W (55.941442, -130.054504),[5] at the head of the Portland Canal, a 130-mile (210 km) long fjord which forms a portion of the border between the U.S. and Canada at the southeastern edge of the Alaska Panhandle. It sits about 2 miles (3.2 km) from Stewart, British Columbia by road, and 75 miles (121 km) from Ketchikan by air.
Keep your wheels on the ground!

Drivng into Hyder, Alaska, USA..what? No Border??!!!
Driving into Hyder Alaska, from Stewart BC, How many undefended and unmonitored crossings into the US are there, I wonder.
Just to update...I was thru in May this year...'13, and they have paved the main drag. I cannot even imagine what that must have cost. They brought crews in from Ketchikan.
Still no US Border Patrol people tho.
