Fisher Island in Miami Beach, FL is one of the most elite and exclusive places to live in the world. The Island has a rich history dating back to the early 1900s. Long before Fisher Island became home to multi-million dollar mansions and condos, the island was a mere plot of land nestled between mainland Miami and the Atlantic Ocean. Where everyone saw swampland filled with mangroves, developer Carl Fisher saw potential of tropical beach living.
Construction of Fisher Island started in 1919 when Fisher purchased the land from Dana Dorsey. William K. Vanderbilt traded his yacht to Fisher in exchange of part of the island. The Vanderbilt mansion serves as a landmark and glimpse into the past of this island. Development had slowed on the island, but picked up again in the 1980s.
Condo-living is quite popular on Fisher Island, therefore many residents seek high-end accommodations that are low-maintenance and private. Residents who live on the island want to live in a place that exudes discerning taste and world-class luxury. Today, Fisher Island represents one of the wealthiest zip codes in the country, and offers both recreation and residential facilities that cannot be found anywhere else near Miami Beach.
