Inside Bali's Batik History and Where to Find The Real Art
How did Indonesia’s most sacred textile migrate from Java to Bali? In this weeks deeper understanding I visit Batik Popiler (the first batik store on the island), a local art studio in Ubud who is still teaching the art, and the wholesale market in historic Denpasar.
Do you own a piece of batik? If so, where did you get it from?

What I Ate & Did in Canggu, Bali Travel Vlog⎮Healthy Cafes, Painting & Room Tour
All about my bali trip:
hi beautiful friends! Welcome to Canggu, Bali! In today's vlog, I share with you what I got up to in the first few days, including what I ate at some amazing cafes and warungs, visiting a cool indoor market, walking along Batu Bolong beach, and painting a canvas again in a cosy little studio called Tyaasa Art Studio. I hope you enjoyed this vlog and found it insightful, and more importantly it would mean the world if you could help to support Project Lombok by the Classroom of Hope Foundation, to allow children in Lombok to go to school in a safe and adequate space. Everything you donate goes directly towards rebuilding schools, and I'd love for one of you to receive this painting I made too, as a token of my gratitude for this community. Sending my love♡

Original Colours—A 5-day workshop on Indonesia’s natural dye traditions
A 5-day workshop on Indonesia’s natural dye traditions—limited to 8 people.
Saturday 21 October - Wednesday 25 October, 2017
Explore the making, meaning and application of Indonesia’s traditional textile arts through natural dyes, swatch dyeing, and a personal batik project.
This workshop offers 3 days of studio time, exploring the traditional art of batik and the indigenous dyes of the Indonesian archipelago. Designed as both an introduction for beginners or an extended practice for established practitioners, the workshop will build towards a personal creative batik and natural dye project on the third day. It will start with a day of hands-on work creating shades of colour with indigenous natural dyes harvested from the dye garden, before the second day focusses on developing batik skills through a series of simple exercises using canting (wax pen), cap (stamp) and brush; these two days establish the foundation for the third day of personal creative exploration.
For four millennia the textile arts of Indonesia have articulated an intimate and harmonious relationship with the earth. Through the plant-sourced dyes and the symbolic potency of the colours created, the archipelago’s indigenous peoples have literally wrapped themselves in their stories of this relationship. After fifteen years of field research and studio practice, the Threads of Life’s staff dyers are offering a 5-day workshop exploring the making, meaning and application of these colours through the practices of batik, yarn and swatch dyeing, and arasi. Hosted at the Threads of Life Natural Dye Studio on the grounds of the Umajati Retreat in Ubud, Bali, the program offers both residential and non-residential options.

Bali, Ubud
Ubud is in many ways Bali's cultural heart. It's in the cool mountains, just an hour's drive north of the airport. This traditional country town is home to one of Bali's royal families. You can even visit the majestic palace in the centre of town. Ubud is also well known as a flourishing crafts centre. Around Ubud, there are the surrounding villages of Campuhan, Penestanan, Peliatan and Batuan. These communities specialise in crafts and woodcarving which are sold all over the island. There are hundreds of shops selling antiques, woodcarvings, crafts, textiles, paintings and jewellery in Ubud. You'll also find some of the best art museums in the country here. Along Ubud's main street are dozens of art studios, an excellent local craft market and galleries

#Batik #BatikPainting #Workshop #Ubud #Bali #art #FiveArtStudio
Hello, this is my first video. Happy to share how my batik painting workshop went pretty-well today.
I found Mr. Wayan's Five Art Studio Ubud Bali on #airbnb and they were very nice and humble. They gave me Kopi Bali and Bali's snack (kue matahari and sagu). Love them all, even though I was focus enough on my painting. Thank you so much for patiently waiting until my work done! ????
I chose Mandala design as my trial. Kinda hard? Yes, it was, for me. Maybe I'm a little bit in a rush to go back to Ubud to watch Women Kecak and Fire Dance. I spent 4 hours to (almost) finish it. Yet, well, not the best one. Haha..
Thank you for Mr. Wayan, Mr. Nyoman, and all the team. It's a pleasure to learn from good and talented people like you all. They learnt to paint since 10 years old. ????
I should practice more. I'm desperately want to try again! Need to do this patiently-needed-activity to help me slowing down.
