Driving Downtown - Brooklyn Skyscrapers 4K - New York City USA
Driving Downtown Streets - Myrtle Avenue - Brooklyn New York City NY USA - Episode 24.
Starting Point: Myrtle Avenue - .
Myrtle Avenue is a 8.0-mile-long (12.9 km) street that runs from the Flatbush Avenue Extension in Downtown Brooklyn to Jamaica Avenue in Richmond Hill, Queens, in New York City, New York, United States.
In the neighborhoods of Fort Greene and Clinton Hill, the development of Myrtle Avenue was directly related to the Brooklyn Navy Yard, built in 1801. In 1847 Fort Greene Park, Brooklyn's first park, was built on the south side of western Myrtle Avenue. During World War II, the Navy Yard employed more than 71,000 people, many of them African American shipbuilders. As a result the demand for housing in the area increased, prompting the New York City Housing Authority to build the Walt Whitman and Raymond Ingersoll public houses on Myrtle Avenue in 1944.
By the early 1970s the vitality of Myrtle Avenue began to decline, mainly because of the decommissioning of the Brooklyn Navy Yard and the curtailing of the elevated railway. At its nadir of decline, the street became known to many Brooklynites as Murder Avenue.[3]
In the 1990s the western end of Myrtle Avenue was closed from Jay Street to Flatbush Avenue Extension to create the pedestrian-only MetroTech Center. Adding to the MetroTech Center's revitalization of the neighborhood, a modern revitalization movement is in effect by a collaboration of community organizations like the Myrtle Avenue Revitalization Project LDC (MARP), the Myrtle Avenue Brooklyn Improvement district BID, and the Myrtle Avenue Merchants Association. Some parts of Myrtle Avenue, for example around Pratt Institute, have recently become a main street of commerce with many trendy restaurants and boutique retail shops.[1]
Brooklyn is the most populous of New York City's five boroughs, with a Census-estimated 2,636,735 residents in 2015.[1] It is geographically adjacent to the borough of Queens at the southwestern end of Long Island. Since 1896, Brooklyn has had the same boundaries as Kings County, the most populous county in the U.S. state of New York, and the second-most densely populated county in the United States, after the county of New York (which is coextensive with the borough of Manhattan).[2]
With a land area of 71 square miles (180 km2) and water area of 26 square miles (67 km2), Kings County is New York's fourth-smallest county by land area and third-smallest by total area, though it is the second-largest among the city's five boroughs.[3] Today, if each of the five boroughs was a separate city, Brooklyn would rank as the third most populous city in the U.S., behind Los Angeles and Chicago.
Brooklyn was an independent incorporated city (and previously an authorized village and town within the provisions of the New York State Constitution), until January 1, 1898, when, after a long political campaign and public relations battle during the 1890s, according to the new Municipal Charter of Greater New York, Brooklyn was consolidated with the other cities, boroughs, and counties to form the modern City of New York surrounding the Upper New York Bay with five constituent boroughs. The borough continues, however, to maintain a distinct culture. Many Brooklyn neighborhoods are ethnic enclaves. Brooklyn's official motto, displayed on the Borough seal and flag, is Eendraght Maeckt Maght, which translates from early modern Dutch to Unity makes strength.
In the first decades of the 21st century, Brooklyn has experienced a renaissance as an avant garde destination for hipsters,[4] with concomitant gentrification, dramatic house price increases, and a decrease in housing affordability.[5] Since 2010, Brooklyn has evolved into a thriving hub of entrepreneurship and high technology startup firms,[6][7] and of postmodern art[8] and design.[7]

A significant but surprising statistic: investment sales have been slowing down since October 2015, in some boroughs and sectors as much as 69%. Also discussed: the effect on the market of New York's June 2019 Rent Laws. All agreed: New York has old stock and needs new construction.

Hurricane Sandy, NJ residents react to gas rationing
Hurricane Sandy, NJ residents react to gas rationing. Falling temperatures on Sunday put more people at risk in a region already battling gas shortages, stubborn power outages and spasms of lawlessness in the wake of Superstorm Sandy.
With overnight temperatures in the 30s and nearly a million people still without power in the area, the city opened warming shelters in areas with no electricity and Mayor Michael Bloomberg was urging older residents without heat to move to them. The city also was handing out 25,000 blankets to residents who insist on staying in powerless homes. I spoke with many people who were worried and frustrated and cold, Bloomberg said after a visit to the Rockaways in Queens. There is no power there and temperatures are dropping. Even those who have generators are having a hard time getting fuel. . New York and New Jersey continue efforts to deal with gas shortages and long lines at gas stations. New Jersey is in the second day of its odd-even gas rationing system. In New York, Gov. Andrew Cuomo says 8 million gallons of gas has been delivered to the state. New York state officials also dispatched fuel trucks to key locations in New York City and suburban Long Island, but later announced they would be temporarily be reserved for for emergency vehicles after long lines of drivers formed at the refueling stations.
Mayor Bloomberg was reluctant to plunge back into Friday's controversy over the last-minute cancellation of the New York City Marathon. While disappointed runners were planning to stage impromptu races of their own, Bloomberg put off questions about the marathon at a Saturday briefing and focused on what he said were more pressing matters. Bloomberg reversed himself Friday and yielded to mounting criticism that this was no time to run the race, which starts on hard-hit Staten Island and wends through all five of the city's boroughs.
The U.S. death toll from the hurricane has climbed to 107. 42 of the victims were in New York City, including 19 in Staten Island. Power outages now stand at more than 2.2 million homes and businesses, down from a peak of 8.5 million.

SUMMARY
=======
The Five-Percent Nation, sometimes referred to as NGE or NOGE, the Nation of Gods and Earths, or the Five Percenters, is a movement founded in 1964 in the Harlem section of the borough of Manhattan, New York City, by a former member of the Nation of Islam (NOI), Clarence 13X, who was named Clarence Edward Smith at birth, and who ultimately came to be known as Allah the Father.
Allah the Father, a former student of Malcolm X, left the NOI after a dispute with Elijah Muhammad over Elijah's teaching that the white man was the devil, yet not teaching that the black man was God. Allah the Father also rejected the assertion that Nation's light-skinned founder, Wallace Fard Muhammad, was Allah and instead taught that the black man was himself God personified. Members of the group call themselves Allah's Five Percenters, which reflects the concept that ten percent of the people in the world know the truth of existence, and those elites and agents opt to keep eighty-five percent of the world in ignorance and under their controlling thumb; the remaining five percent are those who know the truth and are determined to enlighten the eighty-five percent. The New York City areas of Harlem (Mecca) and Brooklyn (Medina) were named after notable Islamic cities by members of the organization. Other areas include Detroit (D-Mecca), New Jersey (New Jerusalem), Chicago (C-Medina), Queens (the Desert), Connecticut (New Heaven), St. Louis (Saudi), Seattle (Morocco), New Rochelle (Now Rule), and Dallas (Sudan). The Nation of Gods and Earths teaches that black people are the original people of the planet Earth, and therefore they are the fathers (Gods) and mothers (Earths) of civilization. The Nation teaches that Supreme Mathematics and Supreme Alphabet, a set of principles created by Allah the Father, is the key to understanding humankind's relationship to the universe. The Nation does not believe in a mystery God but instead teaches that the Asiatic Blackman is God and his proper name is Allah, the Arabic word for God.
