Flam Hostel - Norway Fjords
This hostel sits within a lovely site. The accommodation wing in this video is brand new and just opened on 4 July 2009. To book this hostel visit I filmed this at the opening ceremony attended by the Mayor. It is bright and well designed and the location is stunning. The owners are very helpful.

Flåm (Flam) is one of the major cruise ports of Norway. With its location deep in a Norwegian fjord in a Unesco World Heritage area, surrounded by majestic mountains, waterfalls and the famous Flåm Railway, many cruise companies choose to have Flåm on their ports of call in 2020.
In this video we recommend some exciting activities for the cruise tourists visiting Flåm and the surrounding area. Some are free, others cost a bit - but all of them are propably more reasonable than the ones offered on the ship. We have sorted the activities after their estimated duration - under 2 hours, from 2-4 hours and 4 or more hours - starting with the shortest ones.

The Flåm Railway, Norway
The magnificent stretch of railroad from Flåm, Aurlandsfjorden and the UNESCO site of Nærøyfjorden up to the mountains of Myrdal at 867 m above sea level. The one hour railroad trip takes you over rivers, through 20 tunnels, steep mountain sides and great waterfalls.

Flåm Fjordsafari - visit UNESCO WH Nærøyfjorden, Norway - watch eagles, seals and small dolphins
Two ribs on fjordsafari in Nærøyfjorden, an UNESCO world Heritage Park with amazing mountains, deep fjords and great wildlife. During the trip we spot an eagle, seals and nieses (small doplhins). We also pass Undredal, the place used by Disney as the inspiration model for the kingdom of Arendelle in Frozen. The Trip Starts and ends in Flåm, known for the railroad trip and the excellent Fretheim Hotel.

One of the most beautiful railways in the world has had one of its most successful summers on record. The 20km train ride from Flam, at the end of the Unesco-protected Aurlandsfjord, through precipices and past huge waterfalls to a height of 866m at Myrdal, in Western Norway, is regarded as an engineering marvel because of the steep gradient. Today we ride the Flam Railway in Norway- voted the Most Beautiful Train Journey in the World!! We bought tickets from Flam to Myrdal- we were lucky that there was still space as the Flamsbana railway is one of Norway's biggest attractions!

Riding the Flam railway (pronounced Flom!) was a spur of the moment decision and we were pleased to be able to get tickets for the Flam railway straight away- all the way up to Myrdal! Often, this line is so busy that you have to wait a few hours for the next available space. Lucky us!
The Flam to Myrdal line is very pretty- although I'm not sure I'd call it the most beautiful train journey in the world! Especially when it's raining like it sadly was for us. Still, we recommend the train journey to anyone on a cruise or a short visit to Norway, as it's a wonderful way to see the Norwegian mountains and the village of Myrdal.
It also gives you a chance to visit Kjosfossen waterfall, the waterfall on the flamsbana railway. This waterfall actually powers the Flam-Myrdal line, which is cool. There's also a crazy dancing hundra girl who tries to lure you into the mountain- to your DOOM! :) The singing by the waterfall is pretty.
If you visit my website there's a link where you can book tickets for the Flam railway in advance, so you don't need to worry about waiting for hours!!

Nice October day. Tourist season was over or so I thought, I was wrong almost no seats available. In summer time this narrow road is extensively use by hikers and bikers.

Flam Norway
First stop on our cruise to the Midnight Sun. Flam has a population of 350 people. It sits at the end of the worlds second longest fjord about 125 miles inland from the North Sea. The ms Koningsdam had about 2,650 passengers on board and for a few hours was the biggest thing in town.
