Xanthi (Greek: Ξάνθη, Xánthi, [ˈksanθi]); is a city in Thrace, northeastern Greece. It is the capital of the Xanthi regional unit of the region of East Macedonia and Thrace.
Amphitheatrically built on the foot of Rhodope mountain chain, the city is divided by the Kosynthos River, into the west part, where the old and the modern town are located, and the east part that boasts a rich natural environment. The Old Town of Xanthi is known throughout Greece for its distinctive architecture, combining many Byzantine Greek churches with neoclassical mansions of Greek merchants from the 18th and 19th centuries and Ottoman-era mosques. Other landmarks in Xanthi include the Archaeological Museum of Abdera and the Greek Folk Art Museum.

Over 40 cultural associations from around Greece participate in the carnival program. The festivities which take place during the period include concerts, theatre plays, music and dance nights, exhibitions, a cycling event, games on the streets, and re-enactments of old customs.

Evia island: Kireas River, Mantoudi (Euboea) | a stunning natural park, Greece
Discover the beauties of a virgin unexplored place such as northern Evia island. Kireas (Greek: Κηρέας) is a River which flows from the mountains of northern Euboea (Evia), Greece, near the municipality of Mantoud i- Limni - Agia Anna & Prokopi (traditional village famous for the orthodox church of Saint John the Russian. Kireas river joins with Neleus River finally flowing into the Aegean near the sea shore of Krya Vrysi in North Euboia. Strabo mentions a legend according to which sheep drinking from Kireas gave birth to white offspring while those drinking from Neleus gave birth to black. The sycamore forest in this Kireas' banks hosts the oldest and greatest in size tree in the Balkans, the Μέγας Πλάτανος (Great Sycamore).
Sports and activities on Evia
For those who love adventure, Evia is a paradise on earth. In Edipsos you can kayak. On Kamatriades, Istiaia mainland, you can go horseback riding. In northern Evia you can walk the trail between the Drimonas waterfalls and the top of Ksiros Mountain.
Beginning in Chalkida, set out on a fascinating journey around the northern part of the island of Evia in Southern Greece. Follow the road from Chalkida to Aidipsos and explore a lesser known part of Greece beautifully surrounded by the deep blue waters of the Aegean and the Northern Evoikos Gulf. Let yourself be captivated by rugged mountains, cascading waterfalls, dense pine forests stretching down to the shore and magnificent beaches with azure, crystalline waters.
Follow a scenic serpentine route through the mountain to reach the top, known as Aghios by the locals, and cast your eyes upon the undulating natural surroundings; the little villages nestling on forested mountain slopes; the fountains flowing with crystalline water; the small chapels and the picture-perfect tavernas.
Our first stop is Prokópi; its first inhabitants were refugees from Cappadocia, who brought from their homeland the relic of St. Ioannis Rossos (St. John the Russian), a sacred artifact that Christians from all over Greece come to worship. A road on the right leads to superb beaches along the coastline of the Aegean: Pilio, Vlahia and Sarakiniko.
Continue straight forward along the riverbed of river Kireas, which flows through an ancient-old plane tree forest, and you will find yourself in Limni. Limni is an important town with a long naval tradition, which is built like an amphitheatre and overlooks Evoikos Gulf. Stroll around the narrow cobbled streets and you will feel like stepping back in time; admire beautiful houses with Bougainville trees adorning their yards and grand captain mansions revealing the town’s glorious past. Before leaving, sip a glass of coffee or ouzo (certainly accompanied by local delicious dishes!) by the waterfront, the most popular meeting point for locals and visitors alike!
Visit: The hermitage of Aghios Christodoulos (12th cent.) on the west side of the town; the church of Zoodochos Pigi (the Life-Giving Fountain) with the submerged ruins of an Early Christian basilica; the monastery of Aghios Ioannis at Katounia; the historic monastery of Aghios Nikolaos (7th-8th century), better known as the Monastery of Galataki at the foothills of Mt. Kandili; the Folk art museum and the Scout’s House.
Activities: sailing, fishing and hiking through beautiful forest paths are only some of the activities offered.
Accommodation: choose among a wide variety of hotels, rooms to let or agrotourism lodgings.

Symi, Greece - Symi Town - AtlasVisual
Symi Video Map:
The city of Symi is the capital of the island and extends to the northern part of it. It consists of two villages each one as beautiful and charming as the other. Ano Symi stretches from the top of the hill on which sits the Castle of the Knights to Gialos, the island's safest harbor. Both are identified as preserved villages. The scenery, traditional architecture and glory of the past is evident in every street. The well-maintained two-story neoclassical 19th century gabled houses with pebbled courtyards, are wonderful examples of folk art. In Gialos is the Naval museum on the island, where there are miniatures of ships, nautical instruments and tools. There are many beaches within easy reach of Symi Town, some organized and others untamed. Within the town there are hotels and rooms of all categories, many of them housed within traditional mansions.

Plaka, Anafiotika & Syntagma (Αθήνα/Athens)
Pláka (Greek: Πλάκα) is the picturesque old historical neighbourhood of Athens, clustered around the northern and eastern slopes of the Acropolis, and incorporating labyrinthine streets and neoclassical architecture. Plaka is built on top of the residential areas of the ancient town of Athens. During the early modern age and until the early 20th century Plaka was noted at the time as the Albanian quarter of Athens[1][2][3][4][5] It is visited by hundreds of thousands of tourists around the year, and is under strict zoning and conservation regulations, being the only neighborhood in Athens where all utilities (water, power, cable television, telephone, internet, and sewage) lie underground in fully accessible, custom-made tunnelling. Motor vehicles are not allowed in Plaka, and most streets are too narrow, thus not being able to accommodate them anyway.
Museums in Plaka include the new Jewish Museum of Greece, the Greek Folk Art Museum and the Frissiras Museum. Excavations have proven that Adrianou Street is the oldest street in Athens still in continuous use with the exact same layout since antiquity. Of special interest is the neighborhood of Anafiotika, the part of Plaka that is built against the northern slope of the Acropolis; built by immigrants from the Aegean island of Anafi in the early 19th century, it features traditional Cycladic architecture.
The Choragic Monument of Lysicrates near the Acropolis of Athens was erected by the choregos Lysicrates, a patron of many theatrical performances in the Theater of Dionysus, to commemorate the award of first prize in 335 BC or 334 BC, to one of the performances he had sponsored. The choregos was the sponsor who paid for and supervised the training of the dramatic dance-chorus.
Syntagma Square (Greek: Πλατεία Συντάγματος, Constitution Square), is located in central Athens, Greece. The Square is named after the Constitution King Othon was forced to grant the people after a popular and military uprising, on September 3, 1843.
The square proper is bordered by Vassileos Georgiou A' Street to the north, Othonos Street to the south, Filellinon Street to the west and Amalias Avenue to the east. The eastern side of the square is higher than the western, and dominated by a set of marble steps leading to Amalias Avenue; beneath these lies the Syntagma metro station. The stairs emerge below between a pair of outdoor cafes, and are a popular city-centre gathering place. Syntagma also includes two green areas to the north and south, planted with shade trees, while in the center of the square a large water fountain traditionally hosts the occasionally sighted Syntagma pigeons, along with heat-tormented Athenians during the summer.
Syntagma Square is also the frequent site of political demonstrations. The Greek Parliament is immediately across Amalias Avenue to the east, and surrounded by the extensive National Gardens, which are open to the public. Every hour, the changing of the guard ceremony, performed by the Presidential Guard, is conducted in front of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier on the area between the square and parliament. On Sundays and official holidays, the ceremonial changing of the guard takes place with an army band and the majority of the 120 Evzones present at 11am.
Syntagma Square is also a hub for many forms of public transportation in Athens; Syntagma station of the Athens Metro is here, the tram stops here, and buses or trolley-buses are available to many points in the city. Travel between Syntagma Square and the Eleftherios Venizelos Airport is available via special airport bus and metro lines. Free wireless Internet access at high speeds (4 Mbit/s) is offered by the Municipality of Athens at the Square.
The Square is also located near many of Athens' oldest and most famous neighbourhoods and tourist attractions. The neighborhoods of Plaka (Πλάκα), Monastiraki (Μοναστηράκι), Psiri (Ψυρρή) and Kolonaki (Κολωνάκι) are all within walking distance, and most of the famous sites of ancient Athens are nearby, including the Acropolis (Ακρόπολις), the Theater of Dionysus, the Areopagus, the Ancient Agora of Athens (Αρχαία Αγορά των Αθηνών) with Hadrian's Library, the Tower of the Winds in the Roman Agora, the Choragic Monument of Lysicrates, the Arch of Hadrian (Αψίς του Ανδριανού), the Temple of Olympian Zeus (Ναός του Ολυμπίου Διός), the Pnyx (Πνύκα), the Philopappos Monument (Μνημείο του Φιλοπάππου) on the Hill of the Nymphs, the Kerameikos Cemetery (Νεκροταφείο Κεραμικού), the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier (Μνημείο του Αγνώστου Στρατιώτη) and Lycabettus Hill. Historic churches also dot the area, some dating from the Middle Ages. (wikipedia)
