The BolderBOULDER was founded in 1979 as a small, local 10K, and since has grown to be one of the largest and most respected community running events in the world and remains locally owned and operated. Celebrated every year on Memorial Day with more than 50,000 participants and 70,000 spectators making it the 3rd largest race in the United States and 7th world wide.
The finish line is at the University of Colorado’s Folsom Field, which becomes the perfect venue for everyone to gather and watch the professional race and the Memorial Day Tribute. The International Pro Team Challenge attracts some of the best male and female athletes from around the world. They finish around 11:45am in the packed stadium with a cheering crowd. Then everyone stays to watch the grand finale, the Memorial Day tribute which begins promptly at high noon.
Last Thursday, a long-rumored appearance by a men’s and women’s team from Cuba became official, marking the first time a Cuban national team will compete in Boulder’s annual Memorial Day running festival.
The Bolder Boulder also will welcome a women’s team from China, the first time the country will be represented in the event since its lone previous appearance in 1998.
