Fonta Flora Brewery | NC Weekend | UNC-TV
Fonta Flora is a microbrewery dedicated to the local resources and community of Morganton, North Carolina. The name comes from the forgotten share-cropping village of Fonta Flora, which was flooded in 1916 to bring electricity to North Carolina's Catawba Valley. Fonta Flora's selection of locally brewed craft beers gives customers a unique, homegrown taste, and their facility provides the communal atmosphere of a hometown pub.

State of Origin Craft Brew Festival
A look at the State of Origin Craft Brew Festival, which took place in Morganton, North Carolina on June 14, 2014. The event was organized by local Fonta Flora Brewery. In 2014, each brewery and cidery attending had to bring at least one product made with North Carolina ingredients. It was unique and a very fun festival. It has now become an annual festival held each June. Each beer offered at the festival must include a local ingredient from the state in which the brewery is located.

Interview with Fonta Flora's Todd Boera | Beer Guys Radio
If you've ever taken a trip to Asheville, NC you've likely heard, If you can find the time, take a trip to Fonta Flora.
Todd Boera opened his original brewery about an hour east of Asheville in Morganton. Slightly closer is Fonta Flora's new Whipporwill Farm location, a 9-acre farm and 15-barrel brewhouse. Being away from the action of Asheville hasn't hurt his brewery. His unique brews with ingredients like beets, carrots, and tulsi bring in plenty of fans, and many do make the side trip from Asheville.
Boera uses only local ingredients in his brews and his farm will have a sizable orchard as well as garden areas to grow other ingredients. For those he can't grow himself he'll source from other local farmers. Fonta Flora also has their own house culture used to ferment their Appalachian Wild Ales.
With the growth the new location has allowed, you'll see some more normal beers like Kolsch, Maibock, and even a Light Lager. The funk will keep flowing as well. Boera admits some of his creations are for a very specific audience, but they're what put Fonta Flora on the map and continue to be very important beers for them to brew.
