EATING COLOMBIAN FOOD in Cartagena.
We spent the day eating Colombian food in Cartagena, Colombian and discovered some great food to try in Colombia. We started off the day trying juices made with fresh Colombian fruit. We also had an Arepa made with cheese and chicken and Patacones (fried plantains) with chorizo, cheese, and avocado. After that we tried some fresh bread called Pandebonos which is made with corn flour, eggs and cheese.
After that we found a fruit called granadilla from the fruit ladies, it’s slightly sweet and a bit sour but not so pretty! Lastly we had Colombian empanada with cheese.

Cartagena, Colombia is the sum of its incredible parts; its colonial, republican and modern architecture, the temptation of its vibrant nightlife, its cultural festivals, exuberant landscapes, magnificent beaches, outstanding gastronomic offerings and its important hotel and tourism infrastructure. It is a fantastic city that guards the secrets of its history in its walls and balconies, its buildings and its narrow, cobbled streets.Framed by its beautiful bay, Cartagena de Indias is one of the best preserved and most enchanting cities in the Americas.
Colombia has numerous things to captivate. On the one hand, an ample offer of traditional regional recipes; on the other, new trends that make the best of local products to turn Colombian flavors into innovative dishes.Colombian national cuisine is as diverse as its climate, landscapes, and cultural expressions. Aside from the fertility of a land that grows practically everything, there is the unlimited imagination of expert cooks who add to the sentiment they infuse into their preparations new ways of seasoning and creating recipes.
Granadilla: The Granadilla or Passiflora ligularis is a member of the plant species in the genus Passiflora. It is found throughout the Andes Mountains in the regions of Venezuela, Bolivia and Colombia. It is also found as far north as Central Mexico and as far south as Argentina. It is one of the many different fruits that are considered part of the Passion Fruit family and in fact it is called Passion Fruit in Africa and Australia. In Brazil it is known as the maracuja doce – or sweet passion fruit. This is a plant that likes to climb and looks stunning on a trellis. It has large green leaves and greenish white flowers. You can plant it on a deck, over a fence or against a sheltered wall but it will need a strong frame for support. The fruit is round and orange and seems also to have a hard, leathery cover. Inside the seeds are protected by a soft white padding. The seeds themselves are surrounded by a clear gelatinous liquid that is soft and sweet to eat.
Empanadas: Colombian Empanadas are a popular snack in Colombia and are served by most Colombian restaurants. Traditionally, these delicious fritters are made with shredded pork and beef, but you can also find a version with ground meat. Serve them with ají and lime wedges on the side.In Colombia, empanadas are also sold outside of the churches. They are usually small and just have potato filling, a great alternative for vegetarians and absolutely delicious.
Pandebono: Pandebono or pan de bono is a type of Colombian bread made of corn flour, cassava starch, cheese, eggs and in some regions of the country they put a guava jam known as bocadillo. Traditionally, it is consumed while still warm with hot chocolate a few minutes after baking. It is very popular in the Colombian department of Valle del Cauca. This bread can be made in both a round and a ring shape.
Arepa: The arepa is a Colombian kitchen stable. It’s what represents the country aside from coffee. There are different varieties of this corn cake from Bogota’s white, round, and flat to the Caribbean Coast’s thick fried stuffed with egg known as Arepa e’Huevo and the sweet yellow corn cake known as Arepa de Choclo. Today arepas are easily found in Colombian bakeries and Hispanic food markets in the frozen food section. The arepa can be grilled, baked, or even fried. Enjoy with a side of fresh white cheese, scrambled eggs for breakfast, hogao or guacamole as a snack, or with meat for dinner.

He took me on a quick tour of food market, street food and restaurants in Cartagena, Colombia. Charlie Otero is known for working with traditional Colombian ingredients and recipes and creating original dishes and new flavors in his restaurant La Comunion. I am very grateful to him for the great day in Cartagena. My only regret, that it was only one day.

Is Colombian Food Good? ???? Delicious Medellin food tour. Eating Traditional Food in Colombia
While in Medellin, we decided we had to do an eating Colombian food part two (we did part one last year in Cartagena, to watch it click here:
This time around we opted to try some different dishes and ones that are a bit more typical to the region.
We started off with a huge breakfast dish called bandeja paisa. It’s a plate full of a whole bunch of things including an egg, sausage, beans and rice. Here we also got coconut lemonade. The restaurant we went to was called Hacienda.
Next we tried another very hearty dish called Ajiaco which is a type of soup made with chicken, rice and corn which we tried at a restaurant called Ajiaco y Mondongo.
After that we opted for some lighter food and first tried a small deep fried, cheese dough ball called Bunuelos.
On our last stop we also went for a relatively small dish. We tried Arepas before but this time we tried Arepas Con Queso (with cheese).

Street Food Tour, Cartagena Colombia
This was probably one of the best things we did in Colombia. We toured the streets with Cartagena Connections. A group of folks who give tours around the colorful streets of Cartagena. Friends back home told us not to eat street food, but do you actually ever adventure if the street food is not eaten?
DELICIOSO!

Cartagena Travel & Food Tours
We visited our third continent of South America by spending five nights in Cartagena, Colombia. Our days were filled with the vibrant colors and sounds, friendly people, and lots of delicious foods. This was a couples trip, but we feel certain our family would be comfortable and welcome in Cartagena. It feels small enough to get a quick understanding of its layout while having endless opportunities to relax and enjoy the Southern Caribbean vibes.

For the first week of my time in Colombia I wanted to dive into the history and see the main sights in the colonial town of Cartagena, therefore I put together a list of the best things to do in Cartagena and went out to explore. Beyond the popular sights and touristic spots I found some great restaurants, went to a few picturesque Carribbean islands and discovered a beach town which is still fairly unknow by like minded people who are backpacking in Colombia.
From the historic city center to recommendable food places this video is meant to also help you find your way around and plan your stay in the area of Cartagena. All my tips can also be found on my website, this includes sights as well as restaurants and hotels in Cartagena.
In the next episode we are going to explore the various sights in and around the city of Medellin and take a look at the violent past of the country as well as at the transformation of it.
Things to do in Cartagena (Cololmbia) as shown in this episode:
Centro Historico / Old Town & Free Tour
Old City Wall / Walled City
Getsemani neighborhood
Volcano El Totumo
Castillo San Felipe de Barajas / Fortress of San Felipe
Paraiso Secreto on Isla Grande, Islas de Rosario
Rincon del Mar
Isla Mucura, Isla Tintipan, Islote at Islas de San Bernardo
— About Exploring Colombia —
Colombia, a country which many only know because of it’s violent past, has been on my list since I went to South America for my first long-term trip in 2012. 6 Years later and with 5 weeks to spend it was finally time to properly explore my country number 9 on the continent.
For the first part of the trip I’ll be traveling with my mate David to the historical city of Cartagena, some picturesque Carribean islands and to the city of Medellin where we get to learn about the violent past and the transformation of the country. After a few days in the capital Bogota I’ll be joined by my good friend Stefan to learn salsa and take on some outdoor adventures in Cali before heading up to Santa Marta where we checkout the most beautiful beaches, float down rivers and hike through the mountains.

Street food Getsemani Cartagena Colombia ????????
Welcome to my YouTube channel I hope you have enjoyed the video
Getsemani centers on Holy Trinity Square, where laid-back groups gather to drink beer, listen to street musicians and snack on grilled arepas from nearby stalls. Lively pizzerias and casual bistros serving Colombian staples line the surrounding streets, which are also known for their vivid murals. Brewpubs, cocktail bars and the amed salsa bar Cafe Havana, keep the party vibe going till the early hours.
