Chania, Crete is an amazing old town, that’s rich with culture, and has some seriously delicious Greek island food to discover. In this video, you’ll find some of the must-eat restaurants and street food stalls to try, if you love to eat, when you’re in Chania, Crete!
Here are all the places featured in this Cretan food tour of Chania:
Μπουγάτσα Χανίων - For breakfast there’s no better place in Chania to get started than this local spot that specializes in bougatsa, and amazing cheese filled pastry. You can eat it with or without sugar, both was delicious, but I liked it without sugar.
Total price - 5.40 EUR for 2
Oasis - For street food, this is about as good as Greek food gets. Oasis is a local gem that serves Cretan Greek gyro pita, a spit of pork that revolves and slow cooks. When you order, you get pita, filled with gyro meat, seasoning and tzatziki to top it off. It’s outstanding.
Gyro pita - 2 EUR each
Old Chania Market (Agora Market) - One of the many best things to do in Chania, Crete, is walk around the Old Chania Market, especially if you love to eat. I chose to eat at a restaurant called Αγαπήνης Οινομαγειρείο, that serves traditional Cretan food. It’s a market atmosphere, and the food is outstanding.
Total price - 21 EUR for everything
Attractions in Chania - Agios Nikolaos, Chania Promenade, Lighthouse - In the afternoon I did some sightseeing in Chania, which is a very charming town. I would highly recommend taking the walk out to the end of the lighthouse. The views are spectacular.
Thalassino Ageri Restaurant - For dinner in Chania, we walked over to a restaurant called Thalassino Ageri Restaurant a legendary Greek seafood restaurant, along the coast, in an area of town with abandoned buildings. The setting is superb, and they offer a variety of seafood, including fresh fish catch of the day. We ordered a bunch of seafood, and enjoyed the gorgeous environment.
Total price - 74.90 EUR
Thank you for joining me on this Greek food tour of Chania, Crete. Hope it gives you some delicious food ideas, and thank you for watching!

CRETAN FOOD TOUR. 6 Must Try Dishes in Crete, Greece
We spent a day exploring the beautiful town of Paleochora and tasting some of the most amazing traditional greek food in Greece.
Cretan food is recognised around the world, and we wanted to experience it during our time here. Although Crete is located in the Mediterranean, Cretan food is more well known for lamb and meat rather than seafood.
If you are wondering what you should try on Crete, this video is perfect for you!

Galaktoboureko is an amazing Greek dessert. The best combination of crispy and soft. This age old Greek dessert is made of crispy phyllo sprinkled with melted butter, honey and cinnamon. Greeks use the most creamy custard & scented syrup to increase the taste of this food by many folds.
Dakos or ntakos is a Cretan meze consisting of a slice of soaked dried bread or barley rusk topped with chopped tomatoes and crumbled feta or mizithra cheese, and flavored with herbs such as dried oregano. Olives and pepper can also be added.
Kalitsounia pies is a carefully handmade pastry shaped into tiny cups and filled with a sweet cheese. The type of cheese vary depending on the region and can be either baked or fried and often sprinkled with cinnamon or sesame seeds.
Yemista: Yemista is a traditional recipe for Greek stuffed tomatoes that comes with vibrant colors and juicy flavors. Instead of tomatoes other vegetables are also used and baked until it turns to brownish color. The stuffing can either be with rice and various herbs or it may contain minced meat. There are countless variations of Yemista and you are allowed to experiment with different types of herbs & spices.
Dolmadakia: This is another sign of the versatile nature of Greek food. Dolmadakia are tiny dolmades that are made of stuffed grape leaves. Inside the leaf you will get meat of ground lamb or beef (sometimes both) and rice stuffing. Traditionally, this dish is served as appetizer with lemon wedges.
Raki: Originally developed as an alternative to absinthe, raki — its still potent cousin — is popular in Greece, Bosnia and other Balkan countries and is called the national drink of Turkey. Similar to Greek ouzo and Italian grappa, the nonsweet, usually aniseed-flavored spirit was originally produced from the solid residue of the grape — the skin, pulp, seed and stem — that remained after the fruit was pressed to make wine.
The town: Paleochora is a small town located 77 km south of Chania, at the southwest coastline of Crete and it’s built on a small peninsula of 400m width and 700m length. The town is set along 11 km of coastline bordering the Libyan Sea. Paleochora is built on the ruins of the ancient city of Kalamydi. It is the capital town of the municipality of Pelekanos and its population was 2213 in the 2001 census. Paleochora's economy is based on tourism and agriculture (mainly tomatoes cultivated in glass houses and also olive oil). It is a relaxing holiday destination since the early 1970s when it was popular with hippies. Paleochora is currently one of the fastest growing tourist towns on Crete.

Cretan Food - 100% PURE LOVE Farm-to-Table Mediterranean Cuisine in Crete!
This was incredible traditional Cretan food experience!

The top reason I wanted to visit Crete, the biggest island of Greece, was to experience the food. Cretan food is known for its incredible Mediterranean based food diet. Even though it’s an island surrounded by the sea, Crete is such a huge island that it’s actually more well known for lamb and meat rather than seafood.
One day while my wife and I were in Chania, Crete, we drove over to a countryside restaurant in the mountains called Ντουνιάς (I’m not sure of the English name). Immediately as we arrived, and met the incredibly passionate owner, and watched him cooking traditional Crete food in clay pots over fire, I knew it was going to be an incredible food experience.
Before eating, I took a quick walk around the farm, to see all the produce and animals they had on their property. The owner was quick to mention to met that it wasn’t just a restaurant, but a farm. Everything he cooked was from his farm on his land - the meat, the vegetables, the fruit, the seasonings, even the wine. Everything was local and seasonal.
After walking around, I just asked the owner to serve me a few of his favorite dishes of the day. We enjoyed some incredible house wine, bread, and then mountain goat. Everything was purely delicious, seasoned with wine and rosemary, and full of natural Mediterranean heb flavors. We were also served a few more Cretan dishes, all of which were stunningly good.
My only complaint was that we didn’t plan to stay long enough. We had to eat, and then head back to Chania town because I had something else planned that day as well. It’s the type of restaurant you could go and hang out for the entire day.
Ντουνιάς - An amazing authentic Crete food restaurant where everything is cooked in the traditional way by pure love.
Total price - 34.90 EUR for everything

The Old Market Hall Of Chania, Crete - Morning Hours
BRAND NEW!!! Check out my DJI Osmo Pocket Test Footage:
If you go visit the the Old Market Hall of Chania, during the early morning hours, you'll get a slice of regular Cretan life. Locals buying fresh produce, having a chat with the vendors. But if you arrive around midday all the charm has gone and it's packed with tour groups, turning the market into one big souvenir shop.
So if you can, try to come early and we can also recommend to get lunch at some of the local restaurants inside of the market.

Chania, Crete Travel Vlog Walking Tour + Eating Fusion Greek Italian Food
We continued our tour of The Old Venetian Harbor in Chania (also known as Hania or Χανιά in Greek) in Crete, but this time we took some of the smaller streets to continue exploring! This Old World town is full of Mediterranean charm and you can see the Greek, Venetian Italian and Ottoman Turkish influences on almost every corner.
We toured the old town of Chania, admired some of its old walls where people have now built houses, ate at an Italian restaurant and admired the shipyards.
Make no mistake about it - if you come here, you will want to come back! The majestic feeling you get here, whether it's due to the freshness of the air created by the breeze that cuts the intense summer heat just at the perfect time, the laid back island vibe of the people, the time-machine feels that spring back to life the past of the Old Town of Chania, or maybe because looking past the Lighthouse of Chania into the great midst of the Agean sea seems to magnify that feeling of discovery and exploration, that quiver that embodies any traveler's first taste of the surreality of the Greek island experience, can't help but make you feel like you are at the crossroads of centuries of cultural intermingling. It is truly a traveler's paradise.

Crete is the scenic, natural pearl of Greece. There are incredible gorges, snow-capped peaks, and some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Crete’s natural beauty is only equalled by its incredible history and culinary scene as well. There is nothing you can’t find on Greece’s largest island. There are Venetian fortresses, Turkish mosques, and churches from the Byzantine empire scattered around the island – all adding to the unique Cretan culture traditions found nowhere else on this planet.
