Indian Street Food Tour in Mumbai - Bombay Duck Fry and AMAZING Vada Pav!
SUBSCRIBE NOW►
Read my blog about Vada Pav:
Day 3: Mumbai, India - To begin the day we took a quick trip to Elephanta Island to see the Elephanta caves. We then came back to Mumbai, and had amazing Bombay duck at Gomantak restaurant, and then proceeded to have one of the greatest Mumbai street foods, called vada pav.
00:22 Elephanta Caves (boat ride 180 INR ($2.69) - One of the worthwhile attractions in Mumbai is the Elephanta Caves, which are a series of historical religious temple caves located on an island off the coast of Mumbai. To get there, you can take a boat from the Gateway of India. We decided to go there first thing in the morning to try to avoid the crowds. I thought it was well worth it.
6:56 Gomantak Boarding House (Dadar West) - One of the top Mumbai foods I wanted to try when I was in Mumbai was Bombay duck, also known and bombil, which is actually not duck at all, but lizardfish. We took a taxi to Dadar West and went to a restaurant called Gomantak that specializes in Malvani cuisine (from the area of Mumbai) and always has Bombay duck on their menu. I ordered the Bombay duck fry, fried pieces of lizardfish that came with the full thali set, including rice and a few curries and chutneys on the side. I also couldn’t resist ordering a side dish of pomfret masala. One interesting thing from this amazing Mumbai restaurant was solkadhi - made from coconut milk and kokum fruit, and it was my first time to try it. Total price - 710 INR ($10.60)
14:14 Ashok Vada Pav - One of the most important Mumbai street food snacks is vada pav, which is a fried potato cutlet stuffed into a bun and seasoned with some flavorful chutneys and spices. It’s sometimes known as the Mumbai vegetarian burger. Ashok Vada Pav is known for serving one of the best vada pav in Mumbai, and they also have some serious history to them. When I took my first bite, I knew exactly why it was so popular. It was absolutely sensationally delicious. It was a little on the salty side, but the vada pav was so good, with a balance of salty, spicy, sweet, and crunchy. Vada pav is one of the most popular Mumbai street foods, but at Ashok vada pav you’ll find one of the best in Mumbai. Vada pav (vada pao) - 20 INR ($0.30).
18:36 Dr. Bhau Daji Lad Museum - 100 INR ($1.49) - After the amazing vada pav, we took a taxi over to the Dr. Bhau Daji Lad Museum, which is another good museum to visit when you are in Mumbai. I especially liked the actual building.
19:58 Bagdadi Restaurant - For dinner we headed back to Colaba near to our hotel and ate at another legendary Mumbai restaurant known for serving north Indian Mughlai food. The one dish I had to order was chicken masala fry, and I also got daal and palak paneer. Although all the food was indeed on the buttery and oily side, it was incredibly delicious. Total price - 515 INR ($7.70).
Thank you for watching this Mumbai food and travel video. The highlight of the day was the Bombay duck fry and the Mumbai street food vada pav.

Mumbai STREET Food Tour - Bombay Sandwich + Pancham Thali + Sardar Pav Bhaji
Mumbai is a buzzing metropolis and if you are wondering what keeps the mega city going then there are two evident answers: the unflinching spirit of the hardworking populace and the numerous hawkers thronging the streets, conjuring up scrumptious and affordable meals for all. The locals are extremely fond of the exciting and eclectic street food scene here.
Our food journey began with the ubiquitous Mumbai Sandwich. This hearty, golden, crisp on the outside and soft and spicy inside and humble vegetable white bread sandwich was stuffed with slices of boiled potatoes, capsicum, tomatoes and onion.
The second stop was a chai shop where we tried Mumbai’s famous cutting chai or half measured chai that was strong, milky and sweet enough to give you the kick to carry on.
Third thing that we had was the poha or a popular savoury breakfast preparation made of soaked flattened rice mixed with some cooked veggies primarily potatoes and onions and tempered with the distinctly flavourful mustard seeds, curry leaves and chillies and topped with sev and chopped onion. Along with it we also tried the upma which is almost a poha equivalent made up of semolina and is more soggy. All of these were accompanied with sambar and coconut chutney.
Our fourth stop the Yazdani bakery, an unassuming heritage eatery that has been around since 1951. We spoke to the endearing owner Parveen Yazdani who gave us a sneak peek into the history and the popularity of the place and its food. Sipping the chai and along with Brun maska, slightly crusted bun slathered with copious amounts of Amul butter, in the antique set up of this bakery was a surreal experience.
Fifth place was the legendary Pancham Pooriwala. The lip smacking Pancham thali, the winning combo of sada pooris and aamras and the enchanting crowd is a cogent combination of flavours, heritage and connections. The food here was an amazing amalgamation of flavours from UP, Punjab and Rajasthan.
Our sixth stop was Aram vada pav where we sank our teeth into the delicious Indian version of the burger. The contrasting tastes and textures of this no frill snacks synonymous with Mumbai is a hit.
After that instant carbohydrate boost we headed to the seventh spot to have a pan in order to cleanse our palate and prime it for more food. Pan is betel leaves topped with pulverised areca nuts and other condiments which is folded into a triangle and relished.
The eighth destination was Elco restaurant to try their famous sindhi style pani puris, sev puri, dahi puri and bhelpuri. All the stuffs were fresh, sensational and addictive.
Our final stop in this leg of Mumbai street food journey was the Sardar pav Bhaji that has been serving this quintessential Mumbai Street for over half a century. A scrumptious plate of buttery soft pavs and the mildly spiced, distinctly savoury and delicious bhaji made us realise why it is a celebrity.

Indian Food in Mumbai - HARDCORE Non-Veg Nalli Nihari and Bombay Street Food Sandwich!
In Mumbai get ready to eat some amazing Indian food!
►Subscribe to my channel now:
►T-shirts:
Day 4: Mumbai, India - To start the day we met up with Myron, who is from Mumbai, and we headed over to explore Crawford Market. We stopped at a restaurant called Noor Mohammadi for a stunning dish called nalli nihari, and then had one of the most fascinating Mumbai street food sandwiches I’ve ever seen. It was a great day of food in Mumbai!
1:27 Crawford Market (Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Mandai) - We started off the morning by walking around what’s known as Crawford Market. The market is indoor and there’s just about anything you can imagine for sale from food to household supplies.
3:55 Noor Mohammadi Hotel (Restaurant) - This restaurants was one of the highlights of this day in Mumbai, and we came here specifically to eat a hardcore non-veg dish called nalli nihari. Typically in India the dish is made from buffalo and it includes bone marrow in the stew as well. It was incredibly oily and fatty, but also incredibly delicious. It was like richness on top of richness, and every single bite of the nalli nihari was worth it. The nalli nihari was especially good with the tandoori roti.
9:05 Bhendi Bazaar - After enjoying the nalli nihari, we then took a walk through Bhendi Bazaar, another action packed street market in Mumbai. There’s always something going on at Bhendi Bazaar, and some kind of action taking place.
10:30 Mumbai sandwich (Bombay sandwich) - When I spotted a man making sandwiches, I couldn’t wait to try it. Known commonly as the Bombay veg or Bombay chutney sandwich, but now also called the Mumbai sandwich, this is a favorite street food snack in Mumbai. You don’t normally think of sandwiches when you think of Indian food, but there are countless sandwich stalls in Mumbai. In contrast to the non-vegetarian dish I had previously, this Mumbai sandwich was vegetarian, and I got a mix of all the toppings, including tomato, onion, beetroot, cucumber, and cheese, all layered with chutney, and grilled in a fire. The sandwich was quite tasty, especially in a large part because of the different chutneys.
14:20 Haji Ali Juice Center / Haji Ali Dargah - Next we took a taxi over to Haji Ali Dargah (mosque), and had a juice at the legendary Haji Ali Juice Center. Unfortunately when we visited Haji Ali Mosque, the ocean tide was too high, so couldn’t walk to it.
16:46 Mount Mary Church - We then headed to Bandra and first stopped off at Mount Mary Church, one of the most famous basilica’s in Mumbai.
17:39 Castella de Aguada - Next we went to walk around Castella de Aguada, an old Portuguese fort, that’s now more like a park and a popular hangout spot.
19:00 Elco Restaurant - Since we were in the area, for snack we went to Elco and to have some chaat. We tried sev puri and dahi puri, both of which were very good, and it was nice to get some AC and relaxation indoors for a little while.
20:50 Milk dessert - While we were walking around Myron spotted a cart selling a type of milk dessert made from the first milk (colostrum). It was indeed very interesting.
22:16 Jai Jawan (Khar branch) - Finally for dinner, out last stop of the day, we walked over to a restaurant called Jai Jawan to eat their prawns fry and tandoori chicken. Dinner was amazing, Jai Jawan is a fantastic restaurant.

Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married June 2013 and quickly caught the travel bug! We started “travel hacking” and taking more trips together and finally decided we wanted to travel for one year. After 2 years of saving $ and travel hacking over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left January 10, 2016. We started this YouTube channel to share our experiences with friends and family, then decided we really liked vlogging and traveling. So we extended our 1 year trip to THREE years :) Now we have a goal of traveling to 100 countries before Nate turns 30 (which is March 20, 2019)! We are incredibly thankful to do something we love every day. :)

Mouthwatering Mumbai Food Tour - Parsi Food, Pani Puri, Kebabs, and Attractions in Mumbai, India
SUBSCRIBE here►
T-shirts:
Day 2: Mumbai is a city I’ve always wanted to visit for the combination of food and attractions. We woke up early in the morning and got started by visiting some attractions and eating some delicious food. The highlight of the day for me was eating Parsi food for the first time.
2:56 Chai near Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) - One of the greatest joys of visiting India is drinking hot cups of chai on the side of the street. It’s brewed hot and fresh, and it’s sweet and creamy.
4:47 Parsi Food at Britannia and Co. Restaurant - One of the unique types of food to eat in Mumbai is Parsi food, which is a combination of Iranian and Indian food, brought over from Zoroastrians who landed on the east coast of India. Britannia and Co. is a classic restaurant in Mumbai that serves marvelous Parsi food, and it’s a restaurant I was completely looking forward to eating at when I was in Mumbai. The first dish I tried was sali boti, and outstanding dish of cubes of tender mutton in a beautifully flavorful spiced stew. Another Parsi food you have to try at Britannia and Co. is the berry pulav, and I ordered it with chicken. It was a wonderful spiced rice with berries and chicken in the middle. The rice was fluffy and light, and sensational. I also tried the mutton dhansak, another classic Mumbai Parsi food, which was pretty good. Finally, we ended our meal with caramel custard.
Read more about Britannia and Co. on my blog:
14:09 Dhobi Ghat - Driving along to a museum, we stopped at Dhobi Ghat, the world’s largest open air laundromat. It wasn’t too busy, but it was a nice place to see in Mumbai.
17:08 Mani Bhavan Gandhi Museum - Next up we visited the Mani Bhavan Gandhi Museum, the house where Gandhi would stay during his visits to Mumbai. The residence is made into a peaceful museum and library.
18:27 Pani Puri at Chowpatty Beach (Girgaum Chowpatty) - One of my favorite Indian street food dishes is pani puri, the combination of a puri (hollow chip) filled with spiced potatoes and chickpeas, and filled with flavored water and chutney. After walking around Chowpatty Beach for a while, we walked over to the food stalls on the side, had pani puri from Badshah stall. It was fantastic.
25:07 Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya - 500 INR ($7.47) - After the Mumbai beach and pani puri, we headed to one of the most famous Mumbai museums and walked around for a while.
26:00 Gateway of India - The final stop of the day we headed over to the Gateway of India, one of the most recognizable attractions in Mumbai.
26:39 Grilled meat at Bademiya - For the final stop of the night we went to Bademiya Restaurant, one of the famous restaurants in Mumbai for grilled meat like seekh kebabs and chicken bhuna rolls. All the food I ordered was delicious, but I especially enjoyed the chicken bhuna roll. Bademiya restaurant has a pretty big indoor seating section, but they also offer standing space on the road to eat as well.
Thank you for watching this day of Mumbai food and attractions in Mumbai, hope you enjoyed it!

Top 10 Indian Street Foods in Mumbai, India | The BEST INDIAN Street Food in Mumbai
Back in early 2018, I spent three unforgettable weeks traveling through India and exploring its cities and historical sites, immersing myself in the culture, and going on as many street food tours as I possibly could.
My Film Making Kit ►
I spent three days eating my way through Mumbai, the most populous city in India. In this video, I’m going to tell you all about the top 10 street foods you have to try when you visit Mumbai. You guys ready? Let’s do this.
Pani puri, which I first tried at Elco restaurant in the Bandra neighborhood of Mumbai. Panipuri is a round, hollow ball of crispy, fried bread that is punctured and then filled with a soup that can contain chili, tamarind chutney, chaat masala, chickpeas, onion, and potatoes.
Bombay duck, which is a local specialty in Mumbai that I tried at Mata Pita Da Dhaba on Madh Island. Now, you might be surprised to learn that Bombay Duck actually isn’t duck at all. It’s a fish that’s either deep fried or cooked in curry, and cut into strips almost like fish sticks. It’s soft, lightly battered, and crispy, and kind of reminded me of flounder.
Ice Gola, a cold, sweet, and salty treat made of shaved ice. The vendor molds the ice around a wooden stick and then dips it into a cup that’s filled with your choice of fruit flavorings. The one I had was blueberry and lemon, which I loved. It made for a unique and delicious combination along with the salt.
Kalidas Masala Vada Pav, a vegetarian Masala burger I tried in the Mulund neighborhood of Mumbai. The burger was made by mixing several ingredients together on a hot pan, including butter, Masala, coriander, and herbs, and cooking it until it reduces into a thick sauce or paste.
Nitrogen Biscuit, which I ate at the Ice Cream Factory, also in the Mulund neighborhood. It’s a freezing cold biscuit that’s been dipped in liquid nitrogen. Eating one of these bizarre desserts is a spectacle because as you chew the biscuit, the heat from your mouth turns the liquid nitrogen into a gas, which makes you look like you’re breathing smoke. My teeth were frozen afterward!
Ice Bhel is a cold, refreshing chaat dish that contains a mouthwatering blend of tomatoes, onions, puffed rice, garlic paste, and coriander. It’s crunchy and super flavorful, and not spicy at all, and is my favorite thing I tried on my first night in Mumbai.
Paneer Chili, which is a very popular Indo-Chinese dish I tried at Juhu Beach. It is made of cubes of deep fried cottage cheese, Chinese sauces, lots of vegetables including bell pepper and spring onions, chili paste, and a whole lot of deliciousness. I was told it would be really hot, but I didn’t find it particularly spicy. That said, it is bursting with flavor with every bite, and I cannot recommend it enough.
Chicken Lollipop, which I tried along Mohammad Ali Road. This is a fried chicken drumstick that’s covered in a red curry that’s so rich, it actually changes the color of the chicken. When you hold the drumstick upright by the bone, it resembles a lollipop, which is how the dish got its name.
Now, further along Mohammad Ali road, you can find the second-to-last items on this list, mutton and chicken kebabs. Mutton is the meat of a mature sheep, and the most common type of kebab is either meat or vegetables that are speared on a skewer and grilled over a fire. The kebabs I had were made of soft, spicy, minced meat and came with a refreshing salad on the side.
The last food on my list is another I tried along Mohammad Ali Road called Lassi, which is a creamy yogurt drink that was not only refreshing because of the heat in Mumbai, but it was also perfect for cooling down my mouth and throat after a long day of eating spicy foods. I tried two different flavors - the original and the saffron. I preferred the original, but my friends loved the saffron.
Now, if you’re heading off to India to try the street food, I highly recommend you take a dose of Pepto Bismol before breakfast and another before lunch every day so you don’t get sick from eating foods and spices your body is not used to.

In one day, we had 7 delicious street foods all made in the PUNJAB style. I didn’t realize until after we finished eating, but we didn’t eat any meat or chicken at all! It was true vegetarian HEAVEN!
We started out the day with an AMAZING Indian breakfast in two different Indian street food restaurants. The first was the famous Amritsar Kulcha. I’m pretty sure you can get this dish in Delhi, but here in Amritsar is the origin of this stuffed baked bread from HEAVEN. It’s stuffed with a spiced potato mix and onions. It’s sprinkled with a masala spice and then put DEEP into the Tandoori oven and baked. It’s served to you on a plate with Chole chickpea curry and onion chutney.
The next AMAZING Breakfast we had on our street food tour was the Poori and Chole with Potato sabzi. A little similar with the chole, but the potato sabzi was nice and sweet and tangy and very UNIQUE!
Afterwards, we took our TUK TUK around town for some more amazing street foods. We enjoyed a street corner tofu curry served with a pancake and then we went to have a sweet and sour buttermilk lassi.
After this, we went to the LEGENDARY Kesar De Dhaba all vegetarian curry restaurant that uses PURE desi ghee. It was extremely flavourful and just a little spicy. We ordered the VEG thali and it was incredible! The paratha bread was so fluffy and covered in pure desi ghee, absolute HEAVEN! We also ate some dessert, a fruit kulfi ice cream!
After this we went for a couple more street foods in Amritsar. We were exploring the back lanes and found an amazing mango fruit stall! It was dried and covered in a slightly spicy and sour and tangy sauce. There were a lot of flavours in this Indian recipe. It was spicy, sour, tangy, sweet, peppery, acidic, pungent, and made your mouth pucker when you ate it! Very UNIQUE!
After this, we went for our final street food, an ICONIC street food in India, the samosa. It was stuffed with potato, cumin seeds, and spices.
The addresses for these street food restaurants in Amritsar, India, are listed below:
1) Breakfast Street Food Kulcha at Monu Kulcha Hut
Gali No, 10, Loharka Road, Ranjit Vihar, N.R.I. Colony, NRI Colony, Gumtala, Amritsar, Punjab 143001, India
2) Amazing Poori and Chole and desserts at Kanha Sweets
Shop 1, Opposite Bijli Pehalwan Mandir, Lawrence Road, White Avenue, Amritsar
3) Fairly OK veg curry DEEP in the back lanes of Amritsar (honestly can’t remember this address, go for the Kesar De Dhaba instead).
4) Delicious Street Lassi at Ahuja Lassi
Near Hindu College, Amritsar, India
5) BEST Vegetarian Curry in the WORLD @ Kesar De Dhaba, Amritsar
6) Amazing Mango sour and spicy dessert at Aam Papad:
Ram lubhaya and sons

Mumbai Non-Veg Food Tour - Chicken Patrel Biryani (Biryani without rice) + Bara Handi + Baida Roti
The bustling Bhendi Bazaar in Mumbai is primarily a Bhori Muslim settlement. The multifarious sights, sounds and aroma and the friendly ambience overwhelm you right from the beginning as you meander through this non vegetarian haven. The culinary options are scrumptious and eclectic. While embarking on the gastronomic quest with our magnificent and ebullient host Huzefa Kudrati we didn’t realise that the place don’t just have good food but also has amazing humane stories.
Our first stop was Al Rehamani restaurant. We tried their succulent, flavourful and seekh kebabs with crispy Parathas and the combination was fun and delicious. The use of Ajwain or carom seeds in the grounded meat mixture lends a very unique and subtle flavour to the seekh kebabs. They tasted the best with a dash of lime juice, mint leaves and the coriander chutney.
After a short amble, we reached our second stop, the JJ sweet shop to try their popular sweet the Gulab Jamun, Mawa Jalebi, Meetha Dahi Vada and Malpua. The Meetha dahi bada was an absolute surprise simply because it was not at all similar to the Dahi Vadas that we are familiar with. It was a sweet, slightly chewy in texture, small and slightly flat dough balls, made with semolina and curd, that is cooked in sugar syrup. The warm Gulab Jamuns simply melted in our mouth. Their most celebrated dish was the Mawa Jalebi that’s an adaption of the famous Burhanpur variant. It was dark, fluffy, slightly crunchy and delectable.
Our third stop at the Firoz Farshan was a revelation. It was really hard for us to process the claim of a biryani without rice until we actually tried some and got stumped by the ingenuity. Here the rice has been replaced with a very unique and out of the box thing the Patrel. It is dense and chunky thing made from Colocasia leaves that’s smeared with a spiced chickpea flour batter, rolled, steamed, cut into pieces and fried. It was an outstanding dish that will stay with us for long.
For the fourth stop we halt by the Fakri bakery to buy some of their specialty, the flaky and airy Pench Butter Khari biscuits to have with tea later on.
So the fifth place we arrived at was the Indian Hotel to devour the Baida Roti, Baida Roll and Chicken Kasturi Sandwich. The Baida Roti was a square, shallow fried flatbread parcel that was filled with beaten eggs and cooked minced meat. Baida roll was a shallow fried roll stuffed with omelette and minced meat. The last dish was a sandwich of Kasturi meethi (fenugreek leaves) flavoured chicken mince spread between two Naans. Squeeze some lemon and you are good to go. Pure indulgence!
After the starters and the Main course it was time to hydrate ourselves so we went to our sixth destination, Idris Cold Drinks that serves a variety of refreshing sodas. These humble drinks were prepared by mixing concentrates extracted from different ingredients along with soda, crushed ice and sometimes Chaat masala.
Our seventh stop was the Alvi Cold drinks selling non veg Channa Batata. Its was an interesting savoury and tangy preparation made by mixing cooked chickpeas, diced potatoes, cooked spleen and kidneys of lamb and garnished with kokum chutney, tamarind chutney, green garlic and fried onions.
The iconic Surti Handi was our eighth stop. Here everything was slow cooked for 8-12 hours. It was the unique proportions and blends of masalas and the appropriate heat that result in such delectable outcome. We thoroughly enjoyed the delicious Nalli or bone marrow curry and the Paya or the trotter stew along with Khameeri roti.
Now was the time for dessert and our ninth destination was Tawakkal Sweets that is very popular with the locals and outsiders as well. We tried small portions of their soft and creamy Mango malai, Strawberry malai, Walnut malai, Blackcurrent malai and Dry fruits malai along with a baked, fudgy milk sweet called the Aflatoon.
Our journey ended on a very blissful note at the Taj Mahal Cold Drink House which is a century old joint that has been preparing the most decadent hand churned natural ice-creams.
We are super thankful to our amazing host Huzefa Kudrati.

Street Food & Insane SEAFOOD in Mumbai India
If you love street food, then Juhu Beach is the place to be when in Mumbai. It's a popular hangout place for locals and tourists where you can find a variety of stalls selling Indian food, Pan Asian food, and all sorts of desserts.
Right after the stop for street food, we went to a Gomantak Restaurant that specializes in Malvani cuisine, which basically serves a lot of seafood. One of the must-try items was the Bombay Duck Fry (which isn't duck, but fish) as well as the Pomfret Masala.
Shawarmas are a very popular street snack in India, and I went a little crazy and went for a chocolate shawarma that a nearby restaurant stall sold. It was pretty interesting and a combination I have never thought of.
Finally, we ended it all with some Kulfi! Kulfi is a very authentic type of Indian ice cream that is super creamy! The man who sells it has been at this location for over 23 years! What's crazy is that he gets up every morning, makes it for 5-6 hours, rides his bike for one hour (with this huge bin of kulfi ON the bike), sells it, rides his bike back, and repeats! His hard work really pays off, because this was probably the best kulfi I have had in India.
Locations:
1:15 Juhu Beach
11:01 Nice Fast Food Corner
13:19 Konkan Swad
18:57 Shawarma (Chocolate Shawarma)
Food stall next to Yasin's Food Inn
21:39 Kulfi Stall (he sells it from about 5pm-1am)
Located across the street from a parking lot and a bus station on Lokhandwala Complex Rd (a 1 min walk) near Lokhandwala Circle, Shastri Nagar, Andheri West, Mumbai, Maharashtra 400047
