Mountain Bike Albuquerque, New mexico - Foothills
Some fun in the Foothills of the Sandia Mountains on my hardtail. It is a GT Agressor Pro 27.5. Trails 230 and 230a are fun down hills. Trail 505 is a slower but fun up and down trail. Enjoi!

South Foothills Open Space Copper Trail Albuquerque, New Mexico
It was my first time riding through the South Foothills Open Space Copper Trail. The trail consisted of a fast and flowy single trail. It had mostly climbs and descents. The maximum elevation was 6407 ft . It was defiantly a good workout and mountain biking experience.

This video is of one of our training hikes - prep for our backpacking trip in the Grand Canyon April 2014. The Sandias are a perfect place to train, with all the foothills, rolling hills, and steep trails. We trained every weekend, along with going to the gym, before the backpacking trip and we were both totally prepared for it... at least we thought we were. But that is another video, an another story.

Hiking in the Most Beautiful State (New Mexico)
While going to boarding school in New Mexico when I was 16-18 years old, my favorite thing was to take hikes around the campus. Nestled where the foothills of the Rocky Mountains meet the Great Plains - Montezuma, New Mexico is one of nature's paradises!

Mountain Biking in New Mexico | My Ultimate 48 State Road Trip
From Texas, I made my way into New Mexico to meet up with Jake Rehfeild and Kendall Weingardt from Heart and Soul Racing out of Albuquerque. Our first ride was in the Sandia Foothills and from there Jake and I rode the jumps at the North Valley Bike park. To finish off my time in New Mexico I headed a bit North to the Galisteo Basin Preserve with Tim Fowler and Robby Medeiros.

Petroglyph National Monument, Volcanoes Hiking Trail, Albuquerque, New Mexico
This was a great hike to start out our trip to the southwest! There are primitive bathrooms at the small parking lot at the beginning of the trail. Other than a couple of shaded benches at the first, flat, portion of the trail, there is no shade, so be sure and wear sunhats and sunscreen, and bring lots of water! It was crisp and in the 60s in March, but I think the summer could easily be pretty miserable. Great views!
New Mexico Geocache GCPZ1Z(Rock Roof) Manzano Mountain
This is a series of clips I took on my way up to Rock Roof Geocache at about 6,800 feet in the Manzano Mountain foothills starting at the Open Space on the very southeast edge of Albuquerque New Mexico on May 27th 2008. Pretty nice hike. Glad I brought some water. And by the way. Did you know it is kinda tough climbing on boulders while holding a camera in one hand? And there are also rattlesnakes in the area to be aware of. They can give you a warning but you can also almost step right on them when they don't. If it's the later of course you may have a problem. If you catch my drift. :-)
Here is an example a fellow geocacher came across in the same general location:

Sandia Mountain Peak Cruise New Mexico
Took these clips on June 12th 2009. I went up there to the top of the Sandia Mountain to check on a trail and also replace a geocache I have up there. Beautiful day. Of course, as usual, it was a lot cooler up there then down in Albuquerque.

Foothills Trail System 2005
Albuquerque, New Mexico
Ride Overview: We were planning on riding Otero Canyon or Sandia Crest while we were
staying in Albuquerque but I was not sure how the issue with the Air Force and Otero Canyon was going and Sandia was out because the lifts were not running. We found these Foothill Trails on the internet and decided to give them a try. First off I have to say that if you are in Albuquerque then these trails are like super close, right in town as a matter of fact. Starting out from the trailhead we were not too sure on which way to go and we were running out of daylight and did not have time to explore all the trails out there. Luckily we ran across some locals who let us tag along for the weekly ride. Don’t be looking for any big trees or grassy meadows on this trail, it is all about riding in the
desert. The trails run all over the place out there along the foothills of Sandia Crest. The trail itself is really fun and fast. There are no technical areas, there are a few blind corners, and if you are carrying too much speed (easy to do out here) you will go flying off the side of the trail into some cacti or yucca. The trail is mostly hard-packed with some loose stuff on top of it. No big climbs here and no big descents just lots of fun, fast twisty single track and a few jumps and whoopee doos's to keep it interesting. Trail options are abundant out there and all open space, you could probably ride all day. Keep in mind this is a very busy trail system so watch for hikers, runners, and other bikers.
Ride Route: I do not recall the trails we did since we were riding with the locals we just followed them. There are lots of options out there.
Ride Rating: This trail is good for just about anyone, the expert, intermediate and even some beginners should find this trail to their liking. This trail would be good for a novice
rider as well.

Backpacking The Gila Wilderness, NM - Thru Hiking on the Middle Fork Trail #157 (Part 4 of 4)
MAY 27, 2012 --- The Gila Wilderness (pronounced: HEE-La) was designated the world's first wilderness area on June 3, 1924. Along with Aldo Leopold Wilderness and Blue Range Wilderness, the 558,014 acres (2,258.2 km2) wilderness is part of New Mexico's Gila National Forest. The wilderness is approximately 27 miles (43 km) from north to south and 39 miles (63 km) from east to west. The Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument is found within the wilderness.
The Gila Wilderness is located in southwest New Mexico, north of Silver City and wrapping around Reserve. It contains the West Fork, Middle Fork and much of the East Fork of the Gila River; riverside elevations of around 5,000 ft (1,500 m) are the lowest in the wilderness. The Mogollon Mountains traverse an arc across the southwest of the wilderness. The tallest peak within this range, Whitewater Baldy at 10,895 ft (3,321 m) anchors the western point of the wilderness. At the northeast corner is Black Mountain at 9,287 ft (2,831 m).
This is part 4 of 4 of our Gila Wilderness adventure. We were escorted back to Snow Lake to retrieve our truck. While we were being escorted, I was sitting in the back of our extraction parties truck and filming the inferno. Sadly, the wildfire consumed over 267,000 acres of forest land and became New Mexico's biggest wildfire in our state's history. :(
