Fore Abbey, Co. Westmeath, Ireland
Fore Abbey was a Christian monastery founded by St Feichin in 630AD. St Feichin died by yellow plague in the 660s. Up to 300 monks and 2000 students lived in the Abbey.
Fore is a fine example of many monastic sites scattered throughout Ireland.

Fore Abbey
An impressive ruin hidden away in a tranquil valley in Central Ireland. I also looked at an old church nearby which dates from the 10th century.

I love the republic of Ireland, I spend a lot of time here on business and when I get time off I like to see the sights and explore the countryside. Fore Abbey in County Westmeath is a beautiful place, go if you can.
Castlepollard, Fore Abbey & Children of Lír
I took a drive around Westmeath recently seeing places related to the myth of the Children of Lír. Fore Abbey in particular was a revelation. A beautiful location, a stunning abbey and overlooked by a rocky crag. Nearby is Lough Derravaragh where the Children of Lír spent the first of their 300 years.
