North Korean vs South Korean Dialects
In 1953 the Korean War between South Korea and North Korea was put on hold, and the countries were separated. Since then the two Koreas have grown apart and have many differences in their languages. While both countries speak Korean, South Korean dialects and North Korean dialects have many unique traits. In this video we’ll cover what North Korean dialect sounds like. I’ll also show several of the major differences between North Korean and South Korean dialects.

Canadian Teaches English to Students in Pyongyang
A Canadian English teacher on my tour was invited to come to the front of the class and talk to the students in the Pyongyang Grand People's Study House. I think it helps to illustrate the humanity of the Korean people, which media would have us believe pretty much doesn't exist.

Alone in an Empty North Korean Airport
I had to fly out of the Pyongyang airport and needed two North Korean guides to take me there. Then when I arrived, the airport was completely empty and I was the only one inside. Bizarre experience with Air Koryo flying me back to Beijing.
I was on a guided tour to North Korea with a company called Young Pioneer Tours. You can book here -

My life in North Korea vs South Korea
UPDATE. A year after publishing this video, I decided to make another video that explains why it might not be a good idea to travel to North Korea yourself: I know it's ironic of me to say it as I've been there myself, but please think twice before making that decision.

One year ago I went on a strictly guided 7 day-tour in North Korea where they took away my passport and did not allow me to explore anything on my own. North Korea was definitely the weirdest country I had ever visited and throughout that trip I kept wondering what life was like in the neighboring South Korea, because it used to be the same country just over 60 years ago.
To answer my questions, this year I traveled to South Korea and made this video, where I compare my time in the North and my time in the South. I still have a lot of questions about the whole situation, but one thing was clear - the daily lives of the Korean people couldn't be any more different than they are right now.

Nothing To Envy by Barbara Demick -

Kim Jong Un’s ‘Pyongyang Republic’: Inside North Korea’s totalitarianism | LIVE STREAM
North Korea’s unique totalitarian control system and power structure are indispensable to supporting its global threats. Understanding the DPRK state’s inner workings is thus crucial to challenging its domestic oppression and international aggression.
In “Pyongyang Republic,” Robert M. Collins details the ideology, personnel, institutions, and administrative operations through which the Kim dynasty maintains the world’s most centralized political order. Perpetuation of Pyongyang Republic rule, warns Collins, will result in “continuation of the nuclear weapons program; continued human rights abuses on a horrific scale; malnutrition of the general population; erosion of institutions outside Pyongyang; and corruption as a way of survival.”

North Korea Televsion- news item and children's story time.
Sample of North Korean TV recorded off air live during a trip there in August 2011. This was the station as received in our hotel. apparently they are supposed to have 3 channels, but we only received this 1, which appeared to be a compile of the best of the channels, but is hard to confirm.
This was late afternoon broadcast of an item which appeared to be about the Kimjongilia flower, (we were lucky enough to have an impromptu visit to the display and cultivation centre during our time in Pyongyang, amazing looking piece of botany!) followed by a children's story time featuring a North Korean take on the 3 little pigs.
