The Kong Family Mansion was the historical residence of the direct descendants of Confucius in the City of Qufu, the hometown of Confucius in Shandong Province, China.

With the exception of Chairman Mao, the one name which has become synonymous with China is Confucius.
Every year, China commemorates its greatest thinker with a traditional ceremony at September 28th, the birthday of Confucius.
This year, it's Confucius 2551st birthday.
The grand scale, the spectacular scene and the ancient music and dance gives the audience a rare look at China's traditional culture.
Already since the Han Dynasty in 195 BC Chinese emperors held sacrificial rites in memory of Confucius with offering of livestock, fruit and wine.
The contents of the musical, singing and dancing performances have been devoted mainly to the eulogy of Confucius' achievements.
Dressed in imperial costumes that stem from the period of emperor Qianlong in early 19th century, the performers keep strictly to the centuries-old rites.
After approaching the altar of Confucius, the sacrificial officials kowtow and burn incense.
Then they offer silk and wine to the altar while another official reads loudly the memorial.
Born of a poor family in the year 551 BC, Confucius' ideas have had great influence on China's political, cultural and social environment for thousands of years.

In a small alley in Beijing's North is the former Confucius temple and Imperial College.
The Confucius Temple is the second largest in the land and was re-opened in 1981 after some mysterious use as a high-official residence and is now used as a museum.
Built by the grandson of Kublai Khan in early 14th century, the temple became already then site for state sacrificial rites in memory of Confucius.
The Imperial College was the place where the emperor expounded the Confucian classics to an audience of thousands of kneeling students, professors and court officials - an annual rite.
