Landing - Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport (FLL) - Fort Lauderdale Florida
Fort Lauderdale is a city in the U.S. state of Florida, on the Atlantic coast 23 miles (37 km) north of Miami. It is the county seat of Broward County. As of the 2010 census, the city had a population of 165,521.[4] It is a principal city of the South Florida metropolitan area, which was home to 5,564,635 people at the 2010 census.
The city is a popular tourist destination, with an average year-round temperature of 75.5 °F (24.2 °C), and 3,000 hours of sunshine per year. Greater Fort Lauderdale which takes in all of Broward County hosted 12 million visitors in 2012, including 2.8 million international visitors. The city and county in 2012 collected $43.9 million from the 5% bed tax it charges, after hotels in the area recorded an occupancy rate for the year of 72.7 percent and an average daily rate of $114.48. The district has 561 hotels and motels comprising nearly 35,000 rooms. Forty six cruise ships sailed from Port Everglades in 2012. Greater Fort Lauderdale has over 4,000 restaurants, 63 golf courses, 12 shopping malls, 16 museums, 132 nightclubs, 278 parkland campsites, and 100 marinas housing 45,000 resident yachts.[5]
Fort Lauderdale is named after a series of forts built by the United States during the Second Seminole War. The forts took their name from Major William Lauderdale (~1782-1838), younger brother of Lieutenant Colonel James Lauderdale. William Lauderdale was the commander of the detachment of soldiers who built the first fort.[6] However, development of the city did not begin until 50 years after the forts were abandoned at the end of the conflict. Three forts named Fort Lauderdale were constructed; the first was at the fork of the New River, the second at Tarpon Bend on the New River between the Colee Hammock and Rio Vista neighborhoods, and the third near the site of the Bahia Mar Marina.

NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale Tour #TravelTips
One of the most interesting activities to do in the Fort Lauderdale area is going downtown and checking out the NSU Art Museum. Its name comes from Nova Southeastern University which is the patron of the NSU Art Museum of Fort Lauderdale. Normally there is a permanent exhibit and a couple of temporal exhibits. It is a great tour, for two or three hours. Very recommendable.
A good plan is to get to the NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale and then take a walk through Las Olas Boulevard.
Las Olas Boulevard Tour:
Founded in 1958, NSU Art Museum is a premier destination for exhibitions and programs encompassing all facets of civilization’s visual history.
The Museum is the hub of the South Florida Art Coast, situated midway between Miami and Palm Beach in the heart of downtown Fort Lauderdale, one of the fastest growing areas in the U.S. Its distinctive modernist building, which opened in 1986 was designed by the renowned architect Edward Larrabee Barnes. Located in Fort Lauderdale’s active Arts and Entertainment District, the Museum is a short walk to the shops, restaurants and galleries of vibrant Las Olas Boulevard as well as to the picturesque Riverwalk waterfront promenade.
NSU Art Museum’s 83,000 square-foot building contains 25,000 square feet of exhibition space, a 256-seat auditorium, Museum Store and Cafe.

Places to see in ( Fort Lauderdale - USA )
Places to see in ( Fort Lauderdale - USA )
Fort Lauderdale is a city on Florida's southeastern coast, known for its beaches and boating canals. The Strip is a promenade running along oceanside highway A1A. It's lined with upscale outdoor restaurants, bars, boutiques and luxury hotels. Other attractions include the International Swimming Hall of Fame, with pools and a museum of memorabilia, and Hugh Taylor Birch State Park, featuring trails and a lagoon.
The city is most famous for its beaches and boats, and while the city of Fort Lauderdale is relatively small in area, the term 'Fort Lauderdale' is often used to refer to the larger metropolis that has grown up around it. It is the county seat for Broward county, and is part of the Miami-Fort Lauderdale-West Palm Beach metropolitan area, which has over 5.5 million people.
The first inhabitants of the land were Seminole Indians who arrived in the 18th century. During the Second Seminole War, Major William Lauderdale led his Tennessee Volunteers into the area and raised New River Fort on the site of the modern city in 1838. In 1893, a young Ohioan named Frank Stranahan arrived and built a house that served as the first trading post, post office, bank and town hall of the area. The house was built near the site of the New River Fort and still stands today as a museum, Stranahan House.
The east side of Fort Lauderdale, between down town and the beach, is criss crossed with canals. It doesn't matter if you are in a car, on bicycles, or on foot, you have to cross the canals where the bridges are. This is one town where a good map can save you a lot of backtracking. Surprisingly the best road map of the East side of town is the 'Dolphus Waterway Map.
After years of building a reputation as the destination for beer-swilling college students on raucous spring breaks, Fort Lauderdale now angles for a slightly more mature and sophisticated crowd. Think martinis rather than tequila shots; jazz concerts instead of wet T-shirt contests. But don't worry, there's still plenty of carrying-on within the confines of area bars and nightclubs.

NAS Fort Lauderdale Museum
- Video created by Minerva Bloom. A collection of images and art from the WWII Naval Air Station Fort Lauderdale (NASFL). US Register of Historic Places. The Naval Air Station Fort Lauderdale Museum is dedicated to preserving the history and memory of the Naval Air Station, presently the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport which was located in Port Everglades during the Period of 1942 - 1946.
Over the past several years, Broward County has demolished most of the buildings that housed NAS Fort Lauderdale during WWII. The primary mission of the Museum's Association is to collect and preserve information, books, naval art, photographs, artifacts and vintage memorabilia that were associated with NASFL, for the purpose of educating the public about the very important role that the Greater Ft Lauderdale area performed for the United States during WWII.
With the help of many volunteers this non-profit Museum has also been instrumental in preserving the memory of Flight 19 - The Lost Patrol, one of the great aviation mysteries.

AutoNation® IMAX 3D Theater – Fort Lauderdale, FL
New Digital Projector + New Surround Sound + New Luxury Seats +New Giant Screen = The Ultimate IMAX Experience!
What is the Ultimate IMAX Experience? It’s a fusion of sight and sound that can be enjoyed at the newly renovated AutoNation® IMAX 3D Theater. The obvious difference in the theater is its 60’ x 80’ giant screen that literally spans from floor to ceiling and wall to wall. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg. In fact, the screen isn’t simply bigger, it’s also shaped differently – not only wider but higher and curved which creates an immersive experience no matter where you’re seated. The very material of the screen is also different, more reflective and brighter, creating images of greater intensity and clarity.
Then there’s what we call the theater geometry, which refers to the shape of the auditorium and how the seats are placed. Most movie auditoriums are long and narrow, to get the most people in, with the screen way off at the far end. The distinctive shape of the AutoNation IMAX 3D Theater is designed to bring the audience not only closer to the screen, but better-positioned in relation to it. The result is an image that’s wider and higher than your field of view, a picture that’s immersive because you’re not aware of where it ends. And that, in turn, is what gives you the feeling you’re part of the action, out among the stars, not just peeking into a scene.
The AutoNation® IMAX 3D Theater, owned and operated by the Museum of Discovery and Science, opened in 1992. The 300 seat theater is a showcase of state-of-the-art motion picture technology. In September 2014, the theater underwent an extensive renovation including a new giant screen (60 ft. x 80 ft.), new luxury seats, new powerful sound system and the addition of a digital projection system to complement our 15/70 film projector. Our new dual IMAX projection system allows for both digital and 15/70 IMAX films to be shown, offering a more consistent flow of new Hollywood films in addition to our classic documentaries. The IMAX Experience® is an unparalleled fusion of sight and sound. Audiences will enjoy five-story high images of unsurpassed brilliance and clarity as they’re immersed in 32,000 watts of digital surround sound broadcast through 56 speakers. And the special geometry of our theater makes you feel as though you're immersed in the action. You're just not seeing the movie --- you're part of it. Both 2D and 3D films are shown in the theater and 3D films are viewed using special IMAX® 3D glasses. The AutoNation® IMAX 3D Theater is home to the BIGGEST screen in South Florida and is one of only three Certified Giant Screen® theaters in Florida as certified by the Giant Screen Cinema Association. Hollywood is a city on Florida's east coast, between Fort Lauderdale and Miami. Palm-dotted Hollywood Beach is backed by the long Hollywood Beach Broadwalk. ArtsPark at Young Circle features an outdoor amphitheater and a striking fountain. Nearby, the Art and Culture Center of Hollywood offers contemporary exhibitions and performances. The Anne Kolb Nature Center is a reserve with mangrove trails and an aquarium.
Hollywood is a coastal city in Florida, USA that is located between the cities of Miami and Fort Lauderdale. With a population of 146,000 people, Hollywood, Florida is a relatively small city that retains an old laid-back Florida feel to it compared to the larger cities in the area.
Hollywood can be divided into four different areas. The first would be Hollywood Beach along the Atlantic Ocean, where you will find most of the action. A short ways inland is Art Deco downtown Hollywood, filled with restaurants, shops, a park, and California essence housing. From here on out there is not much to see as residual housing and small business occupies the area. When you finally get to the edge of town by the Florida Turnpike, you will find a few hotels, casinos and other attractions here along an Indian reservation owned by the Seminole Tribe of Florida who have lived in the area since the 18th century.
Hollywood is in southeastern Broward County, and includes about 5 to 6 miles (8.0 to 9.7 km) of Atlantic Ocean beach, interrupted briefly by a portion deeded to Dania Beach. It is bounded by these municipalities:

Fort Lauderdale
Dania Beach
To the northwest:

Cooper City
To the west:

To the southwest:

To the south:
