Fort Richardson State Park and Historic Site [Official FPV Tour]
In Oct of 2018 I had the pleasure of visiting Fort Richardson State Park and historical site in Jacksboro Texas. This great Texas State Park is built on the site of historical Fort Richardson, Fort Richardson was built to protect early settlers from the native American tribes in the area.
This video is not my normal FPV campground tour. I was unable to ride the high speed mobility scooter across the low water crossing to the back side of the park.
To get the most from my visit to Fort Richardson State Park I filmed the whole park with the dash cam.
Come along with me as I drive through For Richardson State Park.

Fort Richardson State Park & Historic Site - Texas Parks & Wildlife [Official]
Fort Richardson State Park:
History is the highlight at Fort Richardson, where buildings of this North Texas frontier fort continue to loom large. But even if today’s travelers aren’t settling the West, many still come to pitch tents and blaze trails.

Fort Richardson State Park
The Two Tired Teachers visited Fort Richardson State Park located in Jacksboro, TX, a small town between Mineral Wells and Wichita Falls.
The park is divided into two separate parks. They are connected by a nice equestrian, bike, and hike trail. The bulk of the park is with the buildings from the original fort. The other part of the park is around 5 miles away. The swim area is in this part of the park.
Camping at Fort Richardson includes air conditioned cabins and large campsites for tents and/or RVs. The campsites include a fire ring and picnic tables.
Fort Richardson State Park has a day use area with a trail and playground equipment. The trail has a stream on both sides.
Another trail in the park is graveled and quite nice. The Prickly Pear Trail is a mowed trail. The park is in the prairielands of Texas, so several of the trails are well mowed trails on grass.
Fort Richardson State Park is a historic site of Texas. The fort was operational from the late 1800s, and it was an operational fort for about 11 years.
One of the original buildings from its days as a fort is the hospital. When it first opened the hospital also housed the morgue on the second story. After having several mishaps of dropping bodies down the stairs, the a building for the morgue was built separate from the hospital.
The hospital had 24 beds without adequate supplies. The conditions of the hospital were best described as deplorable.
The guard house had four 4 x 8 cells which each kept 3 prisoners. The barracks had 150 men in them and smelled so foul that the officers rarely went in them.
The buildings are open to the public, and history buffs are encouraged to visit this historic park.
The park is centrally located. While the Two Tired Teachers were visiting Fort Richardson State Park, they went to Lake Arrowhead State Park, which is an hour north and Mineral Wells State Park which is about 45 minutes away. Possum Kingdom State Park is an hour to the west.
Fort Richardson State Park is a fun park that is centrally located.

The Trailblazer
We meet a trail building legend in El Paso. The Franklin Mountain range is the largest sustained mountain range in Texas, and it has some of the best mountain biking trails in the state. We’ll meet the man that has built many of those trails, and he’s doing it at the spry age of seventy nine.
Lavaca Bay, The $130,000,000 Clean Up
In the 1980’s, fishing in Lavaca Bay was all but closed when deadly levels of contamination were found in the surrounding waters. Today, over twenty years and a hundred million dollars later, the clean-up is almost complete. We’ll tell you how government agencies and private industry set aside their differences …all for the good of the bay.
