Fort de Buade Museum
In the late 1600s, a French military fort was built in St. Ignace. Fort de Buade was the first military presence in the region, dating back to 1683. It stood watch over the nearby Native villages, French settlements, and the Jesuit compound while sending a message to the British about expansion into the Great Lakes region. More than 300 years later, Fort de Buade Museum sits near the same site with some of the same weaponry, garments, and other artifacts. Exhibits and dioramas depict 18th and 19th century life in St. Ignace, making this a must-visit for true understanding of the area's history.
