We got to see buildings like Marina City, Trump Tower, and Wrigley Building. Architecture river tours are a fun way to take in the sights along the river. If you find yourself here during the summer months kayaking is a popular way to experience the Chicago River. The Crown Fountain is a cool interactive sculpture located in Millennium Park. Art lovers will enjoy the Art Institute of Chicago. Taking in a Chicago Cubs baseball game at Wrigley field is a must for anyone who visits the city. You can't come to Chicago and not eat deep-dish pizza! During our week here we ate at many pizzerias in town including Lou Malnati's, Giordano's, Gino's East Side, and Pizzeria Uno. Formerly known as the Sears Tower, Willis Tower is now the 2nd tallest building in the United States. Many of the buildings at the University of Chicago were designed in the Gothic style.
which is in Chicago's South Side. For a chance to come face to face with dinosaurs, head over to the Field Museum. Right next door is the Shedd Aquarium which is a popular attraction for families. Visit the John Hancock Center by night as the city really dazzles from the 94th floor. The Navy Pier is a fun place to visit on a weekend including a Ferris Wheel. Chicago's Museum of Science and Technology is the largest science museum. It's hard to miss the flashing lights of the historic Chicago Theatre!

CHICAGO BEACH DAY TIMELAPSES

On a perfect summer beach day at the beach in Chicago, I take a couple of timelapses. My wife had to work again, so I took the girls by myself to the beach, just south of Fullerton. I loaded up the stroller with our beach mat, our pop up sunshade (shade shack pop up tent and some snacks. The baby sat in the stroller and my daughter rode her scooter.

It was a wonderful day to be at the beach, with water temps finally in the comfortable range for swimming. The baby was initially a little grumpy about being the water, but once she acclimated, she was as much of a fish as her older sister.

Later, as we were leaving, the clouds started looking a little gloomy, so we headed home. The boats in the lake were all warned about the coming storm, too, so we got to see a parade of boats as they returned to the harbor.

Chicago Lakefront Trail Bike Ride (2019)

This video features a Chicago Lakefront Trail bike ride. The Chicago Lakefront Trail offers great views of Chicago, while also having many places to stop along the way. During the summer, the Lakefront Trail provides a great environment for bike riding in Chicago. If you have ever visited Chicago and were curious where the best place for biking in Chicago is, it would be hard to top the Lakefront Trail bike ride.

Distance swimming is available parallel to the shore from Division Street to the Chess Pavilion (20 yards west of the buoys). An ADA accessible beach walk is available. There is limited street parking nearby.

In fact, Oak Street Beach is just one of about 26 beaches in Chicago. The beach is one of the city's most popular thanks to its location near the densely populated Streeterville and Oak Street Beach Chicago Gold Coast neighborhoods and its magnificent views of Chicago's downtown and the John Hancock Center in particular.

Chicago's Oak Street Beach is a true urban beach. Chicago Park District - A Tour of Lake Front Beach - (Michigan Lake) Travel Guide

Lake Michigan is the third largest of the Great Lakes (22,400 square miles) and the only one located entirely within the United States. At least since 1670, when Marquette and Joliet crossed the Chicago Portage, Lake Michigan has been Chicago's link to the wider world.

You might know Chicago as the birthplace of the skyscraper, the home of deep dish pizza, or as one of the largest urban cities in the country. But you might not know that we’re home to miles and miles of sandy shoreline, where you can swim, bike, kayak, boat, jet ski, paddle board, and more.

Chicago’s 26 miles of scenic lakefront includes numerous public parks and gardens, an 18-mile Lakefront Trail — and more than two dozen free beaches. Here are a few spots you can kick back and soak in the sun at Chicago’s beautiful beaches.
The Chicago Park District is the oldest and one of the largest park districts in the United States. As of 2016, there are over 600 parks included in the Chicago Park District as well as 27 beaches, several boat harbors, two botanic conservatories, a zoo, and 11 museums. The Chicago Park District also has more than over 230 field houses, 78 public pools, and dozens of sports and recreational facilities, with year-round programming. The district is an independent taxing authority as defined by Illinois State Statute and is considered a separate (or sister) agency of the City of Chicago. The district's general superintendent and CEO, Michael P. Kelly, was appointed by the mayor of Chicago and confirmed by the board of commissioners in 2011.

Chicago, the Windy City as it is often called, lies along the shores of Lake Michigan. Chicago's history is a big part of what makes it so unique. Taking a tour is definitely recommended if you want to learn about the city's storied past, from the notorious gangsters to the famous buildings. Below are some of the most popular or unique tours on offer in the city:

Chicago's Landmarks: The four-hour Chicago Grand Half-Day Tour is the perfect way to be able to see and learn about the city's most important landmark buildings and sights. The narrated coach tour takes a scenic route along the lake through Grant Park and past some of its most iconic attractions; drives down Chicago's Magnificent Mile; and tours the South Side, where you can see President Obama's former home.

See the sights: For general sightseeing, the Hop-On Hop-Off Bus or Trolley Tour is the easiest and most convenient way to see the highlights of the city and to get oriented.
