The City of London, UK 2015
London is the capital and most populous city of England and the United Kingdom. Standing on the River Thames, London has been a major settlement for two millennia, its history going back to its founding by the Romans, who named it Londinium.[5] London's ancient core, the City of London, largely retains its 1.12-square-mile (2.9 km2) medieval boundaries and in 2011 had a resident population of 7,375, making it the smallest city in England. Since at least the 19th century, the term London has also referred to the metropolis developed around this core. The bulk of this conurbation forms Greater London, a region of England governed by the Mayor of London and the London Assembly. The conurbation also covers two English counties, the City of London and the county of Greater London, though historically it was split between the City, Middlesex, Essex, Surrey, Kent and Hertfordshire.

Scouting Iconic Photography Spots in London | Photography Vlog
I went looking for iconic photography spots in London on the latest photography vlog.
See some of my photos from London on IG @brendanvanson.
London is growing on me. The first time I was here, I don't think I appreciated it as much as I should have. Now, I'm kind of loving it. I think there are so many cool photography spots in London. All the photography locations in London are so cool, and some of them are just so iconic.
On the vlog today, I wanted to go out and shoot in the morning for sunrise, but I was so sick the night before I decided to skip it. Instead, I decided to go photo location scouting in London. Or, more specifically, central London. I'm glad I did. I had such a good time exploring some of the spots in the city. And while the weather really wasn't good - I mean, when is it in London - the locations are always incredible.
Mostly, this video focuses on photography on the bridges in Central London. I love that in the city there are so many cool places that you can shoot from that are open. It doesn't feel like you need to battle for position with other photographers as is the case in other iconic cities in Europe some times.
The UK travel and photography vlogs are starting to get rolling now, and actually tomorrow I'm leaving London and heading north on a bit of a road trip. I'm really excited to see and photograph more of the UK and as much as I'm loving this city, I am also looking forward to getting out into nature a little bit as well.
Tomorrow, look for a travel vlog as we head to the north of England.

ABOUT LONDON_______________
London (/ˈlʌndən/ (About this sound listen)) is the capital and most populous city of England and the United Kingdom.[7][8] Standing on the River Thames in the south east of the island of Great Britain, London has been a major settlement for two millennia. It was founded by the Romans, who named it Londinium.[9] London's ancient core, the City of London, largely retains its 1.12-square-mile (2.9 km2) medieval boundaries. Since at least the 19th century, London has also referred to the metropolis around this core, historically split between Middlesex, Essex, Surrey, Kent and Hertfordshire,[10][11][12] which today largely makes up Greater London,[13][14][note 1] a region governed by the Mayor of London and the London Assembly.[15][note 2][16]
London is a leading global city[17][18] in the arts, commerce, education, entertainment, fashion, finance, healthcare, media, professional services, research and development, tourism and transportation.[19][20][21] It is the world's largest financial centre[22][23][24][25] and has the fifth or sixth largest metropolitan area GDP in the world.[note 3][26][27] London is often regarded as a world cultural capital.[28][29][30] It is the world's most-visited city as measured by international arrivals[31] and has the world's largest city airport system measured by passenger traffic.[32] It is the world's leading investment destination,[33][34][35][36] hosting more international retailers[37][38] and ultra high-net-worth individuals[39][40] than any other city. London's universities form the largest concentration of higher education institutes in Europe.[41] In 2012, London became the first city to have hosted the modern Summer Olympic Games three times.[42]
London has a diverse range of people and cultures, and more than 300 languages are spoken in the region.[43] Its estimated mid-2016 municipal population (corresponding to Greater London) was 8,787,892,[3] the largest of any city in the European Union[44] and accounting for 13.4% of the UK population.[45] London's urban area is the second most populous in the EU, after Paris, with 9,787,426 inhabitants at the 2011 census.[46] The city's metropolitan area is the most populous in the EU with 14,040,163 inhabitants in 2016,[note 4][2] while the Greater London Authority states the population of the city-region (covering a large part of the south east) as 22.7 million.[47][48] London was the world's most populous city from around 1831 to 1925.[49]
London contains four World Heritage Sites: the Tower of London; Kew Gardens; the site comprising the Palace of Westminster, Westminster Abbey, and St Margaret's Church; and the historic settlement of Greenwich (in which the Royal Observatory, Greenwich defines the Prime Meridian, 0° longitude, and GMT).[50] Other landmarks include Buckingham Palace, the London Eye, Piccadilly Circus, St Paul's Cathedral, Tower Bridge, Trafalgar Square and The Shard. London is home to numerous museums, galleries, libraries, sporting events and other cultural institutions, including the British Museum, National Gallery, Natural History Museum, Tate Modern, British Library and West End theatres.[51] The London Underground is the oldest underground railway network in the world.

The Little-Known Patterns on British Streets
I thought about saying secret patterns or mysterious patterns in the title, but that'd be a lie: they're just mostly unknown! So let's talk about tactile paving, about design, about accessibility, and about those bumpy bits that you stand on when you're crossing a British street. // Thanks to Richard Holmes and the team from the RNIB!
