Destination Illinois: Rockford's Laurent House
Famed architect Frank Lloyd Wright designed hundreds of buildings during his more than 70-year career, but he referred to the Laurent House in Rockford as his little gem.
Seth Peterson Cottage
The Seth Peterson Cottage was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. The architect was commissioned by Seth Peterson to design a small cottage to be built on a piece of land on Mirror Lake just outside of Lake Delton, Wisconsin. The cottage was built but Peterson died before construction was completed.
Eventually, The Seth Peterson Cottage fell into disrepair and was rehabilitated in 1989. Today, the cottage may be rented by the public. This is a great opportunity to stay in a Frank Lloyd Wright property.

Abandoned Sunset Drive-In, Rockford, Illinois
The Sunset Drive-In was one of three in Rockford (in addition to the Belford Drive-In and Robin Drive-In). All three date to at least the 1950's, if not earlier. This was open as the Lin's Air Drive-In in 1955. The single-screen drive-in, off Samuelson Road, was fairly good-sized, and could accommodate 700 cars. It was later renamed Sunset Drive-In and showed pornographic films towards the end.
Long ago closed, much of the drive-in has been demolished, but parts of it, like the concession stand and ticket booths, still stand, though ruined (by nature and vandals), with the property having become heavily overgrown.

The last home that legendary architect Frank Lloyd Wright designed will be sold at auction. The sprawling property in Phoenix, Arizona, doesn't have a price tag attached. Auction house Heritage Auctions said there is no minimum asking price. It was previously listed for $2.65 million, but has been on and off the market since 2016 and was as high as $3.6 million at one point. The combination of no reserve and $1 million drop off mean a buyer could get the property to sell quickly, according to realtor.com. 'This no-reserve auction presents a tremendous opportunity for fans of Frank Lloyd Wright to own his very last residential design,' says Nate Schar, director of Luxury Real Estate for Heritage Auctions, in a release. '[The home’s] stewards have been careful to preserve as much as possible of Wright’s vision. It’s a very special home.' Share this article Share Nestled in the Phoenix Mountains Preserve, the location is a majestic 3,095 square feet with three baths and three beds that captures the ever-changing patterns of light and shadow as the sun travels across the canyon, Heritage Auctions states on its website. If the picturesque space doesn't do it for you, there's a gated driveway and private pool. On the inside, you'll find a fireplace and central heating within the two-story mansion. The Norman Lykes Home also called the 'Circular Sun Home,' goes to auction October 16. A second-story office offers 360-degree views. The Norman Lykes Home, on a 1.3 acre plot of a rocky desert bluff, was designed in 1959 shortly the opening of the Guggenheim Museum, one of Wright's most famous buildings.
