Prof. ROBERT LEHRBAUMER:
Born in Vienna, Robert Lehrbaumer started his career at the age of 9 when he made his appearance as a pianist in Austria, Germany and Switzerland. Since then, concert tours have brought him, later also as a conductor and as an organist, to almost all European countries and capitals, to North, Central and South America, to the Near East, South-East Asia, Korea, and Japan, in famous locations from Viennas Musikverein and Konzerthaus to New York's Carnegie-Hall and Tokyo's Suntory Hall and Casals Hall.
Robert Lehrbaumer began to study piano at the age of six. From 8 to 13 he was a member of the Mozart Boys Choir. Two years later, he entered the Vienna University of Music and Dramatic Art to study piano with Gertrud Schwarzbauer and Hermann Schwertmann (a student of the Liszt-student Emil von Sauer, which makes Robert Lehrbaumer being a follower of Franz Liszt, Carl Czerny, Ludwig Beethoven and Joseph Haydn) and Heinz Medjimorec, organ with Rudolf Scholz, conducting with Otmar Suitner and composing with Thomas Christian David.
Prizes in numerous competitions, especially Geneva 1985, and scholarships by Bösendorfer and the Alban Berg Stiftung distinguished the young interpreter.
When he was 11, he had his first appearance as a soloist with
orchestras and has since performed concerts - either as a soloist or as a conductor or both - with the Vienna Philharmonic, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, the Vienna Radio Symphonic Orchestra, the Bruckner Orchestra/Linz the Mozarteum Orchestra/Salzburg, the Camerata Salzburg, the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, Ensemble die reihe and with many foreign orchestras - when appearing as a soloist - also under the baton of conductors such as Claudio Abbado, Yehudi Menuhin, Sandor Vegh, Andre Previn, Leopold Hager
Musical partnerships with Wolfgang Schneiderhan, Anton Dermota, Walter Berry, Angelika Kirchschlager, Martha Argerich, Bo Skovhus, Friedrich Gulda, Rudolf Schock, Philippe Entremont and others.
Robert Lehrbaumer pursued his careers as an organist and as a pianist and as a conductor simultaneously. His special piano-organ-recitals, also with orchestras, are very popular events for which he gets rave reviews.
He has participated in numerous
festivals such as the Vienna Festival, Salzburg Festival, Brucknerfest/Linz, Carinthian Summer/Ossiach, Bregenz Spring, Luzern Music Festival, the Nuremberg Organ-Week, Slovakia Spring-Festival, Schubert-Festival/Washington D.C., Festival Cervantino/ Mexico, Martha Argerich Festival Japan.
At the age of 25, he played a solo-recital in the cycle
Master-Soloists in the Vienna Konzerthaus, together with Abbado, Sinopoli, Previn, Caballe, Brendel.
Lehrbaumer is specialized in performing the repertoire of Schubert and the Viennese Klassik as well as works of the late Romantic period. He is also interpreter of contemporary (often Jazz-influenced) music, several dedicated to him (Christoph Cech, Gottfried von Einem, Paul Kont, Ernst Ludwig Leitner, Roberto Pintos, Thomas Daniel Schlee, Robert Schollum, Shih u.a.).
In addition, Robert Lehrbaumer has made recordings for radio and TV stations, LP and CD (Sony, RCA-Ariola/Red Seal, Amadeo, ORF, Belvedere, KKM, Preiser Records); he has starred in films and videos.
He teaches at international
master courses in Austria and abroad and has been teaching at the University of Music in Vienna and at Universities in USA and Mexico and Asia. He teaches regularly at one of Vienna's Conservatories - his students are prize-winners of international competitions. He is also member and president of international competitions' juries.
When conducting orchestras, Robert Lehrbaumer often is performing both as conductor and pianist/organist in works of Haendel, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Liszt, Gershwin, Poulenc.
Robert Lehrbaumer has been awarded the honorary title Professor by the Austrian Federal President in December 2014.

Stéphan Elmas (Armenian: Ստեփան Էլմաս; 1862 – August 11, 1937) was an Armenian composer, pianist and teacher.
Elmas was born into a family of wealthy entrepreneurs in Smyrna (now İzmir), a city in the Ottoman Empire. It was soon discovered that the little boy was a child prodigy: he began taking piano lessons and writing short piano pieces under the tutelage of a local music teacher, Mr. Moseer, and already at the age of thirteen, the young virtuoso performed an all-Liszt piano recital.
In July 1879, with the encouragement of his teacher – but against the wishes of his family – Stéphan Elmas left for Weimar, Germany, hoping to audition for Franz Liszt. Here he was able to meet the great master: Liszt advised him to go to Austria and work with Professor Anton Door at the Vienna Conservatory [a.k.a. University of Music and Performing Arts, Vienna] and Franz Kremm, the distinguished composer and church musician.
In Vienna, the seventeen-year-old Stéphan divided his time between studying the piano and composition, making his Vienna debut in 1885: an event which received many accolades in the press. Elmas continued to compose, writing many character pieces, including waltzes, mazurkas, nocturnes and impromptus. He dedicated his 6 Etudes (1881) to Franz Liszt and a number of pieces to Victor Hugo.
Elmas stayed in contact with Liszt and frequently sought his advice. In 1886, he briefly returned to his native Smyrna to attend his father’s funeral, but returned to Vienna convinced that Europe had much more to offer him. On February 24, 1887, he gave a highly successful recital in Vienna’s Saal Bösendorfer. A busy concert schedule followed, with Elmas scoring artistic triumphs in France, England, Germany, Austria and Italy. He mostly programmed his own works, but also performed Beethoven, Chopin and Schumann.
During his travels, Elmas became closely acquainted with, among others, the Russian composer and pianist Anton Rubinstein, the French composer Jules Massenet, the French pianist Joseph-Édouard Risler and the French lexicographer Guy de Lusignan. In 1912, he took up permanent residence in Geneva, Switzerland, where he continued to compose, teach and perform. Over time, Elmas became increasingly hard of hearing and grew somewhat of a bitter recluse, cutting himself off from the world.
Thankfully, he befriended Aimée Rapin (1868–1956), the armless Swiss painter, who nursed and consoled him during these difficult times. Elmas was also haunted by the tragic events of the 1915 Armenian Genocide by the Ottoman Turks. Fortunately, his family was able to escape to Athens following the Great Fire of Smyrna in 1922 which followed the Turkish occupation of the city.
Stéphan Elmas dictated his memoirs to Krikor-Hagop, a young journalist. His piano, along with his manuscripts and reminiscences, is now housed at the Charents Museum of Literature and Arts of Armenia. The composer died in Geneva and was buried in the city’s Plainpalais cemetery.
