Welcome back to another episode of Chopstick Travel. Today’s video is PART 2 of a two part series in a very special foodie destination. Spanish food & culture is world-renown, and in the tiny city of Sevilla, the sense of Spanish tradition is strong! Join us for a day of eating and sightseeing in this beautiful city.
The day begins with a classic Spanish breakfast, tostada with coffee and milk. We head over to check out an architectural masterpiece known as Las Setas de Sevilla “the mushrooms” and head inside to check out their market. We sample some local salami because we saw many locals buying it. We hop over to the next market to eat local specialities, including paella (made with seafood and squid ink) and fried squid rings, washed down with a cold beer! We decide to give some gelato a try and compare it to Italian gelato. Our original location which is claimed to be the best in Seville was unfortunately closed however gelato is available all throughout the city! We finish our last day in Seville at a famous tapas bar to try jamón (delicious) and a plate of stewed oxtail. Everything was so delicious!!!

For our cooking class episode in Spain for the Career Break Secrets Video Travel Guides ( ) I contacted A Taste of Spain culinary school which specializes in private culinary tours and gourmet activities throughout the country. I was particularly interested in Andalusian food and headed down to Sevilla. Ruth Roberts has been in Spain for years and holds classes in her beautiful apartment with a stunning view of Sevilla. Our day started in the local market near her home where we spent about half an hour looking at all the great, fresh foods.
In this clip, Ruth is showing me some of the vast selection of seafood options that the market offers.

???? ABOUT THIS VID! ????
⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯
Seville is one of the most amazing places in Spain to eat tapas. It has a fantastic mix of old school, traditional tapas bars, and modern, new tapas bars. It’s the capital of Andalusia and where the tapas tradition truly began. But if you want to get away from the tourist centre, and hit some very local and atmospheric tapas bars that are filled with locals and serve delicious food - then you need to head to Triana. It’s just over the Guadalquivir River and is a neighbourhood that has always had a very strong sense of identity. Locals say, I’m not from Seville, I’m from Triana!
In this video I head to five super local tapas bars in the Triana neighbourhood. We try everything from jamón to shrimp to pork cheek to tortilla. And we drinks wines, vermouth and sherry. I’m joined by some of my Devour Tours colleagues on the journey. So, if you want to have a truly local tapas experience in a real Sevilla neighbourhood, I suggest checking out these five places. We head to Bar Santa Ana, Cervecería La Granda, Las Golondrinas, Casa Cuesta, La Antigua Abacería.

Hola! I’m James Blick. Spain is my passion! It’s food, it s culture, its history and its people. And I get a massive kick out of sharing everything I’ve learned with visitors to this country. My mission? To help you have a true, rich and delicious experience in Spain!
I’m from New Zealand and have been living in Madrid since 2011 (which my Spanish wife, Yolanda). I’m a co-founder of Devour Tours, where we offer award-winning food & culture tours in Spain’s most delicious destinations. I’ve been featured on the BBC, CBS and Channel 4 talking about Spain and its food and I’ve also written for The Guardian, Sunday Times, El País and others about Spain as a culinary destination. And finally, I make these videos - because it causes me a lot of pain to think that people are in Spain and having a less-than-authentic experience!
Thank you for watching my videos. I’d love it if you’d comment on them. Tell me what you like, don’t like and what you want to see more of! And give it a thumbs up if you enjoyed it, and share it with your friends who are heading to Spain. It all helps others find my videos!

3. SPANISH FOOD MYTHS! ????
⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯
Do Spaniards drink sangria? Are churros for dessert? Where can I get a good paella (only in Valencia?)? Great questions! When tourists hit Spain, they want to eat! And damn right, too! BUT there is so much misunderstanding about how, when and what we REALLY eat in this country. Which is why I made this video in Madrid – to help prevent Spain-bound travellers from falling into typical tourist gastro-mistakes. Watch, learn and drool!

Barcelona Vlog Pt 1: Paella Cooking Class!
My friend Nidhi and I wanted to do something different from the usual walking tours and sightseeing when we arrived in Barcelona. So, what better way to do that than booking a Paella cooking class (from Viator). It was my first time to book something like this because normally I like doing DIYs because of budget constraints, and it turned out really great and worth the value. Here's a short video if you're curious without spoiling too much fun :)

3. VIDEO GUIDE: BEST TAPAS IN SEVILLE ????
⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯
Seville is possibly the best city in Spain for eating tapas. Whether you’re after modern tapas, or more traditional dishes, this city is simply mouthwatering. Perhaps the best place to eat in Spain!
I was in town for a Devour Tours get-together and on my last day - with a broken voice! - I decided to hit the bars. So, where did we go?
1. First we hit Casa Morales. The second oldest still-running bar in the city. It opened in the mid 19th century, and is still going strong. Here we started (breakfasted!) fino sherry, some excellent manchego cheese and a delicious montadito of bacalao (salt-cold) on bread with salmorejo. And, of course, we admired the gorgeous huge tinajas (wine vats). This place is unforgettable.
2. Next it was time for some more substantial cooked traditional tapas. So we headed to Bodeguita Romero, where they do killer versions of some of the city’s most classic dishes. First I tried the pringá, which is a fabulous sandwich of pork, blood sausage and other meat. Then I tried their carrillada (pork cheek) which literally melts in your mouth like marshmallow.
3. Next we went modern, heading to new favourite Palo Cortao. If you love sherry, this is the place for you. They have 80 sherries by the glass. And the food is also fantastic. From the false tomato, to the mackerel on sweet peas to the phenomenal cheese plate… this spot is definitely one of my new favourites.
4. Time to go totally off the beaten path. Mateo Ruiz is a heaving old joint that’s well-known for its excellent fried bacalao and €1 wine… the place was packed, and the atmosphere incredible.
5. Finally we hit La Tienda de la Azotea, and fantastic little joint that serves delicious and imaginative modern tapas and has an excellent wine list. I had an amazing almadraba tuna taco, some delicious octopus in a mole verde and some fantastic red wine from the Seville region.
Well stuffed… I rolled home, and back to Madrid… and to Yoly. I hope you liked the video!
