Colourful Buddhist mandalas being sold at shops near Patan Square in Kathmandu Valley, Nepal. Sundari Chowk contains exquisite samples of woodcarvings, stone, and metal sculpture. A huge stone platform in this chowk is the seat of a pious king who endured great penance in search of eternal bliss. It is said that he slept outside on this chilly stone platform in the bitter cold of Kathmandu winters and spent hours in the monsoon rains.
Located in the heart of Patan city, this was once the palace of the kings of Patan. The square is a display of Newari architecture that had reached its pinnacle during the reign of Malla kings who were great builders and patrons of the arts.
The square boasts of many famous sites and unique architecture. Krishna Mandir in the Patan Durbar Square was built to honor an incarnation of Vishnu. Krishna fought by the side of the Pandavs in the Mahabharat war to assure that truth would prevail. He was a favorite among the gopini cow girls. His temple is the best example of stone architecture in Nepal. Scenes from the Mahabharat, Asia's greatest mythological war, are carved on the temple's walls.

The political transition that engulfed Nepal for a long period of time has, fortunately, come to an end and the country has embarked on a new journey of rapid economic development and prosperity following the promulgation of the Constitution. Competitive multiparty democracy and liberal economic policy, among others, are the salient features of the Constitution. With the formation of a strong government with robust popular mandate earlier this year, all efforts of the government are now directed towards economic transformation of the country.
As the Government concentrates its efforts on realizing the vision, “Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali”, it recognizes the crucial role that the investment, both domestic and foreign, can play in bridging Nepal’s existing capital and technological gaps. The Government has already initiated a range of far-reaching policy reforms with a view to addressing the constraints and bottlenecks that impede investment and offering the most attractive and secure investment opportunities to investors. Political stability has ensured policy consistency and the Government remains firmly committed to taking further measures, commensurate with the needs and circumstances, to ensure the investors-friendly environment.
In an effort to further enhance Nepal’s standing as a promising investment destination and to build on the recent encouraging developments, the Government of Nepal is organizing, ‘Nepal Investment Summit 2019’ on March 29 -30 in Kathmandu. The Summit will bring together prominent national and international speakers, dignitaries, policy-makers as well as sector-specific experts and, more importantly, high-level representatives of the governments.
After a gap of over two decades, the Government had organized Nepal Investment Summit 2017 to promote Nepal as an investment destination for the next decade. The Summit generated huge interest in the international community, thus helping to create a positive momentum among potential foreign investors.
This Summit, a major investment promotion initiative of the Government of Nepal, is a continuous effort and commitment to attract and encourage investment.
Volunteering in Nepal with RCDP International
Jessica Hong took part in our Buddhist Monastery Volunteer Project in Nepal which is a socially responsible and positive impact program. We want to share some of the everyday routines and tasks she did during her volunteering trip with us here in this short video.
The core part of Jessica's volunteer project involved teaching Chinese to young Buddhist monks whose ages range from 6 to 17 years old. All in all, she got to teach 22 young Buddhist monks. After finishing her classes, Jessica goes back to the homes of our host family. She eats her lunch, takes a shower and does some laundry as well.
Later in the afternoon, Jessica spends her free time walking around and exploring nearby places. She also likes going to a local bakery for a cup of hot ginger tea. Shopping is another thing that she very much enjoys doing during her free time. But there's plenty more to do. From visiting the famous Monkey Temple to exploring the streets of Thamel area, one can indulge in everything Nepal has to offer.
Weekends are the time of the week when volunteers like Jessica get the chance to travel out of Kathmandu valley and take a Bungee/Rafting Day Trip. It's something that you simply can't miss out on. Other travel options include: visiting Boudhanath Stupa, Pashupatinath Temple and Chandragiri Hill.
