Galveston Ferry | Bolivar Peninsula Trip | Texas Beach
Hi my lovely friends, come with me on a trip to Bolivar Peninsula, a half Island close to Galveston, Texas. We boarded in Galveston and we drove our car on top of the ferry. Once you are on the ferry, you can get out of the car and enjoy the beautiful view of the Galveston Bay. The trip from Galveston to Bolivar Peninsula takes about 20 min and is completely free. The ferry does not have a schedule, they drive whenever the ferry is full. So you just arrive at the Galveston port and stand in line until they let you get on the ferry.

A little History about ferry
Ferry service has been a part of the Texas transportation system since the 19th century when the skiff, The Tarpon, began operating from Galveston Island. Later, two barges plied between Port Bolivar and Galveston. These early operations were commercial ventures and only made the trip when they had paying customers. There were no published or regularly scheduled operations.
In 1929 the first regularly scheduled ferry service between Port Bolivar and Galveston Island was established by a privately owned company. At the end of 1929 the company sold its two ferries to Galveston County and the county operated the ferry service for about 6 months. Galveston County petitioned the state to operate the ferries and then sold the two vessels to the State of Texas in April 1930.
The first ferry operated by the State of Texas left Port Bolivar on July 1, 1934. Texas operated the ferry service toll-free for approximately six months, but the service was so popular that Galveston County officials asked the state to impose a 25 cent charge to reduce traffic congestion. The 25 cent toll continued, except for a brief experimental period in 1934, until 1949. Since then, the ferry operation has been operated as a toll-free service.
In 1967 a second operation began providing ferry service across the Corpus Christi Ship Channel between Port Aransas and Harbor Island. Prior to becoming part of the state service, the ferry was operated on a fee basis by Nueces County.

Port Bolivar Ferry Ride over to Galveston Island
Watch in HD!
On April 14th 2012, I headed over to Galveston Island with a few friends to spend the day. Galveston had a few different events going on that day like the Ja-Ga Reggae Festival, The kids festival, Featherfest, and the Galveston Railroad Museum was offering Union Pacific rides down Post office St and Strand St.
The weather that day was great. But it was extremely windy with 25+ MPH winds and we also had very choppy water and a high surf that day. The ferry ride over that day was so fun! I loved it so I decided to video it. We got a few good waves that came up over the front of the ferry and hit cars up to 3-4 rows back.
The ferry is a free service offered to everyone. Part of the fun in going to Galveston is getting to take the boat ride over. The ferry takes about 15 minutes to get over to Galveston island. Almost every trip we see dolphins, we saw some today as well but unfortunately you can't really see them in the video, they were pretty far off.
Feel free to 'Like' or leave a comment. Enjoy!

SS Selma - Seawolf Park, Galveston Texas - 1080P
During World War 1 steel was in short supply so the United States experimented with concrete ships. Completed in 1919 it hit a jetty in 1920 ripping a 60ft gash in its hull. It was then towed to Galveston, TX for repairs. Since no one had experience repairing concrete ships a decision was made to scrap her in Galveston bay where she has been ever since.

GALVESTON ISLAND, TEXAS | Family Vacation Travel Video | Sony A6500
The Trabert family vacation was a success! This video is of my family and I on vacation in Galveston, Texas. We had a blast! There was a lot of activities to do there such as visiting Moody Gardens, deep sea fishing, traveling to Houston to visit NASA's Johnson Space Station, checking out Pleasure Pier, and just relaxing with the family and enjoying our vacation. A wind surfer was nice enough to allow me to film him wind surfing while he was in front of our beach house - which was really cool. Overall, this was a fun and successful trip and I would recommend traveling to Galveston, Texas and enjoy their clean beaches and beautiful weather!
