This is Part II of our trip - watch the First part of our Ireland trip here:
For us, Northern Ireland was a bucket list destination and we've been really excited to visit everything! We wanted to the best Game of Thrones filming locations and that's why we wanted to rent a car and to have a road trip to the North! Also, we've been really excited to see the Guinness Storehouse in Dublin at the end of our trip - def a place that worths to be visited.
Are you looking for a quick Game Of Thrones filming locations itinerary in Northen Ireland? My husband is a big Game Of Thrones fan so we wanted to go to the Game Of Thrones filming locations in Ireland! Thankfully, Northern Ireland has made it quite easy to see the best Game Of Thrones filming locations. We've got only one day to visit but we wanna go back for more!
This is the locations we've selected to see:
1. The Rope Bridge - Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge (locally pronounced carrick-a-reedy) is a famous rope bridge near Ballintoy in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. The bridge links the mainland to the tiny island of Carrickarede. The Antrim coastline is one of the most striking coastal areas in Ireland. Set against this rugged ocean-front scenery, the rope bridge at Carrick-a-Rede Island is the main attraction. Most visitors come to test their bravery and walk across the swaying suspension bridge.
2. The Dark Hedges - We approached the Dark Hedges from The Giant's Causeway. The Dark Hedges is on a quiet road near the town of Ballymoney in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. It's just a short road surrounded by farmer's fields. When driving up to the Dark Hedges, we weren't sure if it was even the right place? At first glance, it doesn't look like much. But once you step out of your car and take a look around, you can see why it has attracted photographers, painters, and curious tourists for decades.
3. The Castle Ward - House Stark's ancestral home, Winterfell, is seen as the capital of the North. It's located in the centre of Westeros' northernmost province, on the Kingsroad that extends from Storm's End to the Wall. Film crews used part of the medieval Doune Castle in central Scotland's Stirling district to shoot Winterfell scenes.
____________
The main Game Of Thrones headquarters are at Paint Hall studios in Belfast, Northern Ireland, where most of the interior sets are housed; the better part of filming Game of Thrones also takes place in Northern Ireland, but many other European countries, and even African filming locations, have been used as well.
____________
Your trip to Ireland is not complete without visiting Dublin's #1 tourist attraction. While in Dublin, you can learn all about Guinness' rich history. As you walk through each floor you will learn what goes into making a perfect pint of Guinness.
Located in the heart of the St. James's Gate Brewery, the Guinness Storehouse is Ireland's most popular tourist attraction. It's the home of the Black Stuff, the heart of Dublin and an unforgettable start to your Irish adventure.

Together with Kristin Addis (bemytravelmuse.com) I went on a road trip exploring Northern Ireland and all the Game of Thrones shooting locations which have been used in the show by HBO. We went on our very own Game of Thrones Tour based on research with the help of the local Tourism Board and some of the Tour operators.
With this we show you all the Game of Thrones spots which actually exist in real life and can be explored while traveling through Northern Ireland.
Supported by our local experts Phil and James who have been involved in the filming from the first seasons we got the chance to see why the production company decided to use Northern Ireland as their main filming spot.

Top Five Game of Thrones Locations (Northern Ireland)
Read more:
Northern Ireland is home the Game of Thrones studio (in Belfast) for all the interior sets and many exterior locations. They are (in no particular order):
1) Carrick-a-rede and Larrybane (Viewpoint)
Larrybane, meaning ‘the ancient white site’, is classic Storms End – with panoramic views of the limestone cliffs and ocean. It hosted several key scenes, including the journey in which Brienne beats Ser Loras and is given a place in Renly’s Kingsguard as a reward.
2) Ballintoy
Still a working harbour for local fishermen, Ballintoy doubled as Lordsport Harbour (The Iron Islands) and the homecoming of Theon Greyjoy after ten years in Winterfell.
3) Cushendun
It was in the caves at Cushendun that the Game of Thrones crew filmed the dramatic scene from Season Two in which Davos Seaworth, on the orders of Lord Stannis, takes the sorceress Melisandre ashore where she gives birth to a shadowy baby.
4) The Dark Hedges
The Dark Hedges, an avenue of beech trees thought to be 300 years old, were the backdrop of Arya Stark’s escape from King’s Landing.
5) Cairncastle, Ballygally
It was here that Ned Stark beheaded the Night’s Watch deserter, witnessed by Jon Snow, Theon Greyjoy, and the Stark brothers Robb and Bran; and where Catelyn captures Tyrion Lannister whom she suspects of trying to kill her son. When Bran, Rikon, Osha, and Hodor head north to The Wall it is also from the land above Cairncastle that they take a last look back at Winterfell.

Game of Thrones filming locations :Northern Ireland
I went along with a friend on tour for game of thrones that Ive never watched but I tell you its worth going even you havent watch the series its all beautiful.
1.The seaside village of Carnlough plays a pivotal role in the filming of Game of Thrones. On-screen, it transformed into the free city of Braavos.
It is here that we see a lot of Arya Stark’s most significant character development. She comes to Braavos to find Jaqen H’ghar, and learns how to become a faceless assassin. She also nearly meets her end in this city, when the Waif confronts her and she has to fight for her life.
Exploring Carnlough you will find some notable locations from the show. The stone harbour steps leading down to the canal have become iconic among GOT fans. Here we see Arya pull herself out of the water after being attacked. Bleeding from stab wounds, she struggles up the steps in an attempt to flee danger.
Beside the spot now stands a plaque with information about the scene and the filming that went on there.
2. Cushendun caves
From Loughs to caves, we join the Causeway Coastal Route once more at Cushendun where you’ll find Cushendun Caves.
Made famous by Game of Thrones® in Season 2 Episode 4 – the caves were formed over a period of 400 million years, and recognisable to fans as the Shadow creature’s birth site.
Located nearby, nestled at the foot of Glendun – one of the Nine Glens of Antrim – is the village of Cushendun, designed in the style of a Cornish village by eminent architect Clough Williams-Ellis.
3. The Dark Hedges
One of the most popular attractions in Northern Ireland is the Dark Hedges, a beautiful row of trees that has been made famous by appearances in TV shows and films such as Game of Thrones. The Dark Hedges make for a popular stop for visitors to Northern Ireland and can be visited as part of a Coastal Causeway road trip or as a day trip from Belfast or Dublin.
4. Larrybane quarry
Larrybane Quarry served as the setting for an important Game of Thrones scene when it was used as Renly Baratheon’s Camp in the TV series.
The old chalk quarry was transformed into a tourney site for an episode in Season 2. It’s rocky landscape and coastal features made it a great location to recreate part of The Stormlands, where Renly set up his camp.
Here, Renly and his new queen, Margaery Tyrell, watch from the sidelines as Loras Tyrell battles an unknown opponent. After defeating Loras, the challenger lifts off their helmet, introducing us to Brienne of Tarth for the first time. As a reward for winning, Brienne asks to join Renly’s Kingsguard. It is also here that Renly meets with Catelyn Stark, who warns him to take the upcoming war more seriously.
Without the sets and props from the show, Larrybane Quarry holds little resemblance to Renly Baratheon’s Camp.
5. Ballintoy harbour
Ballintoy is a village on the coast of Co Antrim with the small fishing harbour located at the end of a narrow, steep road down Knocksaughey hill which passes by the entrance to Larrybane and Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge.
It features in season two of Game of Thrones when Theon Greyjoy returns home to Lordsport Harbour.
