Portland Rose Garden Jardins
In 1888, Georgiana Burton Pittock, wife of pioneer publisher Henry Pittock, invited her friends and neighbors to exhibit their roses in a tent set up in her garden. Thus began the annual rose show for Portland Rose Society. Jesse A. Currey, a former Rose Society president, convinced city fathers to inaugurate a rose test garden in 1917 with the support of the American Rose Society, City officials, and civic --minded citizens. At that time, Portland had 20 miles of rose-bordered streets -- a strategy to draw attention to the 1905 Lewis and Clark Centennial celebration. As a result, Portland was dubbed City of Roses. The garden was a perfect opportunity for enhancing that reputation.
Founded in 1917, Portland's International Rose Test Garden is the oldest official, continuously operated public rose test garden in the United States. In the beginning, even though World War I was raging in Europe, hybridists sent roses from around the world to Portland's garden for testing and to keep the new hybrids safe from being destroyed by the bombing in Europe.
LSU AgCenter Botanic Gardens
The LSU AgCenter Botanic Gardens is an expansive collection of specialty gardens, woodlands, wetlands and arboreta. Trees and Trails offers 3 miles of serene walking paths through the Burden Woods. The Rose Garden, Children’s Garden and All-America Selections Trial and Display Garden showcase flowers and vegetables and provide educational experiences for gardeners of all ages. In all, the LSU AgCenter Botanic Gardens consists of five specialty gardens, multiple walking trails, a boardwalk over the Black Swamp and two event facilities.
There is more to the LSU AgCenter Botanic Gardens than just green spaces. The facility plays an important role in LSU AgCenter extension and research programs, which support the state’s nursery, landscape and fruit and vegetable industries; wetlands and coastal restoration; and forest industries. The Botanic Gardens also serves as an integral part of undergraduate and graduate education for the LSU College of Agriculture and numerous horticulture-related organizations.

we have known michelle for quite some time. she is a gifted writer, dear friend, and excellent story teller. it is always humbling to have close friends request us to photograph their family, and even more so when they are extremely talented themselves. we traveled back to our old stomping grounds of northwest arkansas to document their wedding at the botanical garden of the ozarks. we have always loved the botanical gardens, and even though it was a bit chillier than anyone expected, it was a beautiful day! josh played a little trombone with his band to welcome the guests, and they both recited handwritten vows. the reception was filled with some of their favorite things, including pasta, ice cream, the color blue, skeleton keys and scotch. there was another mad lib [their rsvp was also a mad lib] for all the guests to fill out about the story of how michelle and josh fell in love. we wish you many years overflowing with laughter.

Brookside Gardens is Montgomery County's incomparable, award-winning 50-acre public display garden situated within Wheaton Regional Park. Included in the gardens are several distinct areas: Aquatic Garden, Azalea Garden, Butterfly Garden, Children's Garden, Rose Garden, Japanese Style Garden, Trial Garden, Rain Garden and the Woodland Walk. The Formal Gardens areas include a Perennial Garden, Yew Garden, the Maple Terrace, and Fragrance Garden. Brookside Gardens also feature two conservatories for year-round enjoyment.
