Dutch Dollhouse Lita de Ranitz 1910 Museum The Hague the Netherlands. On her death, aristocrat Lita de Ranitz left a large collection of dolls, doll`s houses and doll`s clothes and accessoires to the Costume Museum in The Hague (the ancestor of the Gemeentemuseum`s fashion department) The largest of her doll`s houses gives a wonderful impression of how houses were furnished in the early twentieth century. The cluttered rooms still resemble nineteenth-century interiors but feature modern devices like electric lighting, central heating, a telephone, a vacuum cleaner and taps for running water. The construction and furnishing of the house are well documented. Lita identified strongly with her doll`s house and travelled all over Europe in search of miniature and household objects for it. Particularly notable are the minusccule paintings by the famous Hague School artists she knew so well.

Jonkvrouwe Lita de Ranitz 1876-1960) stelde een poppenhuis samen en verzamelde ook nog kleinere poppenhuizen, -kamers, winkeltjes en speelpoppen. Haar collectie bevindt zich in het Haags Historisch Museum.Het grote poppenhuis stelt een moderne villa voor zoals in deze ca. 1910 in zwang was. De villa bevat een woonhal met links de eetkamer en rechts de keuken. Op de eerste verdieping bevinden zich in het midden de overloop met de badkamer, links de salon en rechts de slaapkamer. Het interieur is goed zichtbaar en toont behalve de inventaris ook moderne snufjes zoals een stofzuiger, centrale verwarming en elektrisch licht. Ook de zolder is ingericht, maar deze wordt niet aan het publiek getoond. Er wonen 5 poppen in het huis. Een porseleinen popje in een zwart-lila kanten japon in de salon stelt Lita zelf voor.

The Hague Gemeentemuseum is the place to be for a unique mix of arts, architecture, interior design and ancient style.The permanent collection contains modern art, fashion, music, decorative arts, a print room with about 50,000 drawings, and prints and posters. On top of that the museum has five large style rooms, each representing a different art period. The Hague Gemeentemuseum holds one of the world's leading collections of fashion items, an extensive music collection, and a decorative arts collection exhibited in Berlage's original display cabinets.
The modern art collection provides a varied overview of developments in the fine arts since the early 19th century. Outstanding features in the collection are the great number of the Hague School paintings and a marvellous series of works by Mondriaan, Picasso, Monet, Cezanne and Kandinsky. As a whole, the collection traces the thrilling story of modern art - right through to today.Gemeentemuseum Den Haag is located in Statenkwartier nearby Scheveningen beach and is easy to reach by public transport, car and bike. From Den Haag Centraal Railway Station and Hollands Spoor, tram 16 will take you to the museum in approximately 20 minutes. From Station CS you can also take bus 24, which runs between Station Mariahoeve and Kijkduin. Gemeentemuseum can be reached by car via Utrechtsebaan towards Kijkduin. On arrival in the city follow the signs for 'Gemeentemuseum'. There are plenty of opportunities for free parking. If the car park should be full then paid parking is available in the World Forum parking garage at Churchillplein 10, which is about a 5-minute walk from Gemeentemuseum Den Haag.

Barbie is a fashion doll manufactured by the American toy-company Mattel, Inc. and launched in March 1959. American businesswoman Ruth Handler is credited with the creation of the doll using a German doll called Bild Lilli as her inspiration. Barbie is the figurehead of a brand of Mattel dolls and accessories, including other family members and collectible dolls. Barbie has been an important part of the toy fashion doll market for fifty years, and has been the subject of numerous controversies and lawsuits, often involving parody of the doll and her lifestyle. Ruth Handler watched her daughter Barbara play with paper dolls, and noticed that she often enjoyed giving them adult roles. At the time, most children's toy dolls were representations of infants. Realizing that there could be a gap in the market, Handler suggested the idea of an adult-bodied doll to her husband Elliot, a co-founder of the Mattel toy company. He was unenthusiastic about the idea, as were Mattel's directors. During a trip to Europe in 1956 with her children Barbara and Kenneth, Ruth Handler came across a German toy doll called Bild Lilli.[1] The adult-figured doll was exactly what Handler had in mind, so she purchased three of them. She gave one to her daughter and took the others back to Mattel. The Lilli doll was based on a popular character appearing in a comic strip drawn by Reinhard Beuthin for the newspaper Die Bild-Zeitung. Lilli was a blonde bombshell, a working girl who knew what she wanted and was not above using men to get it. The Lilli doll was first sold in Germany in 1955, and although it was initially sold to adults, it became popular with children who enjoyed dressing her up in outfits that were available separately. Upon her return to the United States, Handler reworked the design of the doll (with help from engineer Jack Ryan) and the doll was given a new name, Barbie, after Handler's daughter Barbara. The doll made its debut at the American International Toy Fair in New York on March 9, 1959. This date is also used as Barbie's official birthday. Mattel acquired the rights to the Bild Lilli doll in 1964 and production of Lilli was stopped. The first Barbie doll wore a black and white zebra striped swimsuit and signature topknot ponytail, and was available as either a blonde or brunette. The doll was marketed as a Teen-age Fashion Model, with her clothes created by Mattel fashion designer Charlotte Johnson. The first Barbie dolls were manufactured in Japan, with their clothes hand-stitched by Japanese homeworkers. Around 350,000 Barbie dolls were sold during the first year of production. Ruth Handler believed that it was important for Barbie to have an adult appearance, and early market research showed that some parents were unhappy about the doll's chest, which had distinct breasts. Barbie's appearance has been changed many times, most notably in 1971 when the doll's eyes were adjusted to look forwards rather than having the demure sideways glance of the original model.

Nadat Handler in 1956 op een reis door Zwitserland de pop Lilli aantreft, ontworpen door een Duitse fabrikant, besluit Mattel om de rechten te kopen, om een soortgelijke pop in de Verenigde Staten uit te brengen. De modeontwerpster Charlotte Johnson maakt de eerste kleertjes voor de pop. De pop kreeg de naam Barbie, vernoemd naar het koosnaampje van de dochter van Handler, omdat zij de inspiratiebron voor de pop was geweest. Het Plein (Dutch pronunciation: [ˌɦət ˈplɛin]; English: The Square) is a town square in the old city centre of The Hague in the Netherlands.
It is located adjacent to the Binnenhof, the meeting place of the States General of the Netherlands; the entrance to the House of Representatives can be found on Plein 2. The Mauritshuis art museum is located on Plein 29.
Het Plein was originally a garden, forming a part of the Binnenhof castle, residence of the Counts of Holland. It was used to grow vegetables for the court. The garden was surrounded by a ring of canals and intersected by ditches. As a town square, Het Plein was constructed in 1632 and was inspired by the Place des Vosges in Paris.
A statue of William the Silent, made by Dutch sculptor Lodewyk Royer, was installed in the centre of the square in 1848.
Mauritshuis
The Mauritshuis (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈmʌurɪtsɦœys]; English: Maurice House) is an art museum in The Hague in the Netherlands. The museum houses the Royal Cabinet of Paintings which consists of 841 objects, mostly Dutch Golden Age paintings. The collections contains works by Johannes Vermeer, Rembrandt van Rijn, Jan Steen, Paulus Potter, Frans Hals, Jacob van Ruisdael, Hans Holbein the Younger, and others. Originally, the 17th century building was the residence of count John Maurice of Nassau. It is now the property of the government of the Netherlands and is listed in the top 100 Dutch heritage sites.
History
The Mauritshuis in 1825.
In 1631, John Maurice, Prince of Nassau-Siegen, a cousin of stadtholder Frederick Henry, bought a plot bordering the Binnenhof and the adjacent Hofvijver pond in The Hague, at that time the political centre of the Dutch Republic. On the plot, the Mauritshuis was built between 1636 and 1641, during John Maurice's governorship of Dutch Brazil. The Dutch Classicist building was designed by the Dutch architects Jacob van Campen and Pieter Post. The two-storey building is strictly symmetrical and contained four apartments and a great hall. Each apartment was designed with an antechamber, a chamber, a cabinet, and a cloakroom. Originally, the building had a cupola, which was destroyed in a fire in 1704.
After the death of Prince John Maurice in 1679, the house was owned by the Maes family, who leased the house to the Dutch government. In 1704, most of the interior of the Mauritshuis was destroyed by fire. The building was restored between 1708 and 1718.
In 1820, the Mauritshuis was bought by the Dutch state for the purpose of housing the Royal Cabinet of Paintings.[10] In 1822, the Mauritshuis was opened to the public and housed the Royal Cabinet of Paintings and the Royal Cabinet of Rarities. In 1875, the entire museum became available for paintings.
The Mauritshuis was privatised in 1995. The foundation set up at that time took charge of both the building and the collection, which it was given on long-term loan. This building, which is the property of the state, is rented by the museum. In 2007, the museum announced its desire to expand. In 2010, the definitive design was presented. The museum would occupy a part of the nearby Sociëteit de Witte building. The two buildings would be connected via an underground tunnel, running underneath the Korte Vijverberg. The renovation started in 2012 and finished in 2014. During the renovation, about 100 of the museum's paintings were displayed in the Gemeentemuseum in the Highlights Mauritshuis exhibition. About 50 other paintings, including the Girl With the Pearl Earring, were on loan to exhibitions in the United States and Japan. The museum was reopened on 27 June 2014 by King Willem-Alexander.
