McCornack Oil Company Commercial - St. Charles IL History, Elburn IL, Wayne IL; Geneva, IL
Great vintage commercial televised at the beginning of St. Charles, IL, Arcada Theater before various classic movies. I'm proud to be a descendant of the McCornack name and representing the St. Charles, IL Museum. Near the end of video you can see the old gas station what is now the Filling Station Pub & Grill at 300 Main Street St. Charles, IL (note the McCornack Oil Company sign on the West side of the property). There is so much history here and I'm looking to preserve the great heritage that resides here.

Lake Geneva - Along the Beaten Path
With its world-class resorts, incredible restaurants and year-round activities, Lake Geneva is a pinnacle of luxury and relaxation. But the 20+ mile shore path around Geneva Lake gives everybody lakefront access and connects the three communities of Lake Geneva, Williams Bay and Fontana. Host Mariah Haberman treks around the lake to discover what awaits along the beaten path.
As the only lake in Wisconsin with the entire shoreline accessible, there’s a lot to see around Geneva Lake! Local historian Jim Beloian joins Mariah for a walk along the shore path, where he explains the history of many of the famous homes on the lake including the Wrigley estate, Stone Manor, and Black Point Estate & Gardens. Mariah makes a few stops along the shore path including the Geneva Lake Museum and Baker House 1885, where she enjoys a champagne toast at sunset.
Geneva Lake is an endless source for recreation and relaxation, with opportunities for boating, swimming, stand-up paddle boarding, and even flyboarding (essentially, a water jetpack). Mariah teams up with Wisconsin Hydrosports to learn about this growing trend and even gives it a try herself! For those looking for a less extreme water activity, the Lake Geneva Cruise Line has a number of pick up and drop off locations along the shore path, where visitors can hop on board for a lake tour. The arrival of winter doesn’t mean an end to boating quite yet in the Lake Geneva area. With the lake typically not freezing until late January, The Lake Geneva Cruise Line takes visitors on a magical journey to the “North Pole” on its Santa Cruise with beautiful light displays along the shoreline and a special surprise for kids along the way! And once the lake does freeze over, ice boaters flock to Geneva Lake to race in the Ice Boating Capital of the World.
Ambitious hikers can take the shore path through all three communities around the lake, but chances are you’ll want to stop and take a break in each one. Downtown Lake Geneva is home to dozens of unique shops and restaurants, including Oakfire. With a focus on specialty pizza and a gorgeous, outdoor deck overlooking the lake, it’s the perfect place to grab a bite to eat. Williams Bay is home to Pier 290, one of just two commercial properties directly on the lakeshore. Enjoy delicious, Wisconsin comfort food, grab a drink at the outdoor bar or spend a day at Pier 290’s beach right out front. Further still along the shore path is Fontana, home to The Abbey Resort as well as Gordy’s Marine and Chuck’s Lakeshore Inn. Mariah visits each of these beloved lakeside spots and even indulges in Chuck’s famous “Sweet Tart” drink. There’s always something new to explore along the shore path!

Illinois Pioneers - U of I History
Illinois Pioneers: University of Illinois history
by Illinois Public Media
Most of us think about history in terms of the events we have personally witnessed. But history precedes us and then continues with the next generations, says John Paul, host of the WILL-TV's Illinois Pioneers. This episode shows how the history of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is much richer than most of those who pass through the campus realize.
Paul interviews Professor Emeritus Winton Solberg, author of three books on the university's past, as they discuss the formative years of the university, even before it made its home in Urbana-Champaign. Had it not been for the efforts of a particularly vigorous and vocal politician, Clark Griggs, the university might have ended up in Jacksonville, Bloomington-Normal or Lincoln. Paul says the agreement to found the university in Urbana was Illinois politics as usual. Strings were pulled. Deals were made.
Funding for Illinois Pioneers -- Champaign @ 150 is made possible, in part, by the Noel Foundation, and by donors to the Champaign 150th Anniversary Celebration Fund. More information on the city's 150th Anniversary is at champaign150.com.

Discover Chicago - The Great American City | 90+ Countries With 3 Kids
If you love art Chicago is definitely the city you need to be in. It has some of the best cutting-edge buildings, public art, museums and monuments in the world. Most of it is on free display like the unnamed Picasso sculpture in the Daley Plaza and the 2006 Cloud Gate (a.k.a. “The Bean”) which have now become symbols of the city. The latter is in Millennium Park, a park initially commissioned to celebrate the new millennium. Few other famous spots in the park include the Jay Pritzker Pavilion which is a 120-feet high outdoor concert venue, the Crown Fountain and the urban oasis Lurie Garden.
The Art Institute of Chicago isn’t free to visit but it’s a must-see if you are ever in the city. It is the second-largest museum in the United States spread across million square feet and comprised of 300,000 pieces. It stands to witness more than 5,000 years of history from various cultures from all around the world. Artists who have work on display in the museum include Claude Monet, Vincent van Gogh, Henri Matisse, and Gustave Caillebotte.
Another museum worth checking is the Museum of Science and Industry. It was opened in 1933 by Julius Rosenwald, a philanthropist and chairman of Sears, Roebuck, and Company. Inspired by the Deutsches Museum in Munich, this building holds exhibits that are interactive and cover a variety of industries, including mining, automobiles, telecommunications, aviation and aeronautics, space travel, agriculture, and medicine. We really enjoyed the World War II German U-505 submarine and a 3,000-square-foot model railroad.
Discover the beautiful windy city and let us know where you're watching from!
