Rochester is a city on Lake Ontario, in New York State. Old industrial buildings cluster near the Genesee River’s High Falls. A vast collection of toys and dolls forms the core of the Strong National Museum of Play. The George Eastman Museum, on the early-1900s estate of the Kodak founder, has photography exhibits, film archives and gardens. Rochester Museum & Science Center has hands-on displays and a planetarium.
Big-city culture and small-city charm combine in Rochester, a mid-sized city on the shores of Lake Ontario. The birthplace of amateur photography, Rochester has long been known as Kodak Town, but its fame was established well before George Eastman came on the scene. Today, its historical treasures complement modern family-friendly attractions that rival those found in much larger communities.
In Rochester, you can find the only museum in the world dedicated to play; award-winning music, dance, and acting ensembles; a dense festival calendar covering nearly every weekend of the year; minor-league sports of the highest caliber; and a trio of majestic waterfalls right in the middle of the city. The gateway to the scenic and culinary delights of New York's Finger Lakes region, Rochester is the perfect place to begin your exploration of Western New York.
Rochester, known as The Flower City and The World's Image Center, is the third-largest city in the state of New York, after New York City and Buffalo. Lake Ontario lies to its north, with the Genesee River flowing northward through the city and over a set of three waterfalls. The historic Erie Canal also runs along the city's borders.
Rochester isn't the most popular place for sightseeing, although the Genesee River gorge and its three waterfalls are certainly worth a trip. For nature lovers, the most scenic of the city's parks is probably Highland Park, although Genesee Valley Park has more recreation options.
Rochester does have a good number of cultural attractions, though, especially for a city of its size. The most prominent of these is the Strong National Museum of Play, absolutely a can't-miss attraction if you have young kids with you. History buffs will want to stop by the Susan B. Anthony Museum & House, a mecca for students of the women's rights movement. And fans of photography will be awe-struck by the collections at the George Eastman House.
Rochester is a city of small neighborhoods. Most center on one or two main streets and are no more than 5 to 10 blocks in length. The East End, High Falls and Corn Hill are all considered downtown, though each is at a different end. Most of the rest of the popular neighborhoods are on the southeast side. Neighborhood of the Arts, East Ave, Park Ave, and Monroe Village are fairly well connected to each other, but are separated from Swillburg and South Wedge on the other side of route 490. The Public Market is near Neighborhood of the Arts, but East Main still needs a lot of work to connect the two. Charlotte is northwest about a fifteen minute drive from center city.
The flagship festival is, of course, the Lilac Festival, which has been drawing visitors from out of town to Highland Park for over a century. Newer, but no less popular, is the Rochester International Jazz Festival, which has quickly grown into one of the world's top music festivals. Less well-known outside of Rochester is the Park Ave Fest, but it epitomizes the local festival scene and shouldn't be missed if you're in town that weekend.

City of Rochester NY Walking Tour of Kodak Park Works on Lake Avenue. Eastman Business Park, formerly Kodak Park, is a large manufacturing and industrial complex in the city of Rochester, New York, in the United States. The ashes of Eastman Kodak founder George Eastman are buried here.
In the decades following 1890 Kodak Park was constructed to meet the massive demand of Eastman Kodak Company's Photographic and Motion Picture Film products. The park would eventually become the largest photographic product manufacturing facility in the world, employing over 15,000 employees in over 154 different buildings spanning its 1,300 acres.
This industrial facility that once provided much of the manufacturing might for Eastman Kodak. George Eastman founded the facility that at one point had over 50,000 employees. In it's heyday it did not actually constitute green space in any sense of the term, although there was always a small memorial park with public access, on Lake Avenue, just north of Ridge Road West.
On the west side of the Genesee River, Kodak Park was a large complex, bisected by Mount Read Boulevard and Ridgeway Avenue, and bordered by West Ridge Road, Dewey Avenue, Lake Avenue, Latona Road, Lee Road and Lexington Avenue.
With the massive downsizing of Kodak, particularly within its film, photochemical and paper divisions, many of the buildings on this enormous campus became obsolete. Recognizing this, Kodak re-purposed major portions of the park. Historical contamination from a century of processing nasty chemicals was addressed. Disused buildings were demolished and the newly opened land turned into actual green space during 2005 to 2007. This work may continue for some time.
In 2012 It was revealed that Kodak had weapons grade uranium in an underground lab for almost 30 years.
Portions of the facility have been redeveloped and marketed as Eastman Business Park. State and local governments and Eastman Kodak Company itself have been steadily working towards turning Eastman Business Park into an innovation hub which would attract large companies as well as small start up companies with a focus on green-tech (how ironic), photonics, optics and material science to the park. New York based company Columbia Care LLC was approved to manufacture and dispense medical marijuana in Monroe County. The facility is now located at the Eastman Business Park. You can smell the aroma when walking past building 12.

The US National Park Service turns 100 today, Aug. 25. To commemorate the milestone, one of the oldest and most important museums of photography is hosting a stunning show in its honor.
“Photography and America’s National Parks” is open through October at the George Eastman Museum in Rochester, New York. The show honors the United States’ vast collection of public lands and monuments, from Yellowstone and Yosemite to the Lincoln Memorial, and even New York’s Stonewall Inn. As curator Jamie M. Allen decribes it, “this exhibition . . . illuminates the history of the most significant national parks through lush landscape photographs.”

Donna Granata is the Founder and Executive Director of Focus on the Masters (FOTM), a highly respected non-profit educational program documenting contemporary artists. Founded in 1994, the goal of FOTM is to demonstrate the importance of the arts to society by bringing highly accomplished artists to the forefront of the community. The program presents its research to a broad public through photographic exhibitions, Artist Spotlight Interview Series (that is video-taped in front of a live audience) and their Learning To See educational outreach to schools and youth centers. FOTM has been the recipient of numerous awards in recognition of its outstanding contributions to arts education including the 2005 inaugural Ventura Mayor’s Art Award – Arts Educator and the 2007 Ventura County Arts Council Art Star Award. Focus on the Masters is recognized as one of the leading arts organizations in the state of California.
In addition to her ongoing lecture series for FOTM, Donna teaches art appreciation classes for the Road Scholar Elderhostel International including an Introduction to the J. Paul Getty Museum, Getty Roman Villa and Laguna’s Pageant of the Masters. In addition, she taught portraiture for the Brooks Institute of Photography and has lectured for the journalism department at UCLA on the ethics of photography. Among her personal accolades are an Honorary Master’s of Science Degree from the Brooks Institute, Teacher of the Year by Elderhostel International and Lifetime Achievement Award in the Arts from the City of Ojai, CA.
An accomplished artist in her own right, Donna is an internationally published and award winning photographer. Her photographs have been displayed across the United States. Selected works from her FOTM portrait series are housed in the Smithsonian’s Archive of American Artists; in the photographic Collection of the George Eastman House, Rochester, New York and other public institutions that house the personal archives of the artists documented. In addition, her work is in the collections of the Carnegie Art Museum, Oxnard, CA, the Museum of Ventura County, the Ojai Valley Museum, and the City of Ventura Municipal Art Collection to name a few.
Donna received a Bachelor’s of Art Degree from the Brooks Institute and a Master of Arts Degree from USC Annenberg in Arts Journalism. She is listed in Marquis Who’s Who of American Women.

ニューヨーク州北部にあるロチェスター（Rochester）という街に行ってきました。コーネル大学はイサカ（Ithaca）という街にあります。Rochester、Syracuseに知人、友人がいるのでこの地域に時々行くことがあります。High Falls（滝）のすぐ近くには米企業Kodak（コダック）の本社があります。世間ではフィルムをほとんど使わなくなり、すっかり地味な企業になってしまいました。それを反映するかのように、動画に写っている本社の入口も寂しい感じですが、これは撮影日が土曜日だったため人がいなかっただけです。この動画には写っていませんが、コダックの美術館とも言える世界最古の写真美術館George Eastman Museumもロチェスター市内にあります。何年か前に行ったのですが、動画撮影していません。また行ってみようと思います。私の別の動画で使用しているエピフォンの赤いギター（Epiphone Dot）は、ロチェスター市内にあるハウス・オブ・ギターズ（House of Guitars）という楽器店で買いました。倉庫のようなCD・レコード店やスタジオも併設しています。ギター教室なども開いているようです。店内の撮影は迷惑になるかな〜と思って撮影しませんでした。ハウス・オブ・ギターズの映像の部分が短すぎてすいません。

A random video of Cornell University and places in Rochester, New York. I go to Rochester and Syracuse sometimes and visit friends and places there. I bought the red guitar Epiphone Dot at House of Guitars some years ago. Besides guitars, they have a huge selection of CDs, vinyls, tapes, DVDs, etc. Kodak's headquarters is located within walking distance from High Falls. The entrance of the headquarters was dead quiet. It's actually because I shot the video on Saturday. There also is George Eastman Museum in the city, which this video doesn't show.

William Seale is an American historian and author.
He attended Southwestern University (BA 1961) and Duke University (MA 1964 and PhD 1965). He taught for several years at Lamar University, the University of Houston, the University of South Carolina, and Columbia University. From 1973-1974 he was curator of cultural history at the Smithsonian Institution. Since 1975 he has been an independent scholar concerned with historical writing and the restoration of historic American buildings, notably state capitols.[1]

The Little Theatre in Rochester, New York, commonly known as The Little is a movie theatre located on historic East Avenue in downtown Rochester, New York and a modest non-profit multiplex specializing in art film, including independent and foreign productions outside the United States.
Founded in 1928, The Little is one of the oldest active movie theaters built specifically to show films in the US, serving as an alternative venue for cinema of higher artistic caliber than what was popular at the time. To remain in business, The Little has created a unique theater experience for its patrons strikingly different from that of standard commercial cinemas. The Little typically shows films that never make it to the large theater chains, either due to lack of publicity, popularity, exposure, or content that is too risky and/or inappropriate for larger audiences (such as NC-17 rated films). Foreign films, independent films, some documentary films and art films are its common fare.
The Little is unique in the area in treating anime films as artistic cinema, and titles by the likes of Hayao Miyazaki always find their way to The Little's screens. Critics at The Little provide a synopsis of any film they intend to show, both on their website and posted around their ticket booths on the street.
The Little also offers live musical performances from local musicians, a rotating art gallery of local artists, and a cafe. Additionally, The Little serves as a performance venue during the Rochester International Jazz Festival each June. The theater is currently operated with the participation of the WXXI Public Broadcasting Council, a non-profit community organization which owns and operates the region's principal public radio and television stations.
The Little has become part of Rochester's extensive theater culture. Rochester has a rich history in cinema, being the home of the Eastman Kodak company and the George Eastman House International Museum of Photography and Film. Kodak film was historically used in a majority of motion pictures (and still is today), creating close ties to the movie industry in Rochester society. The Little Theatre Film Society holds film festivals throughout the year, many of them hosted at The Little. The theatre is well known by any serious cinema patron in Rochester for providing an alternative to standard Hollywood commercial fare. The Little has also avoided the negative reputation for snobbishness that is sometimes associated with art house cinema, cultivating the image of a venue for anyone who is simply seeking an alternative or a community that celebrates cinema.
The word Theatre is often used instead of the word Theater to distinguish between art house cinemas and the more common variety. Theatre is an older form of the word, though both words share the same literal meaning. The Little uses the older form both to make this distinction and due to the age of the theater itself.
In 2014, Hart's Local Grocers opened its doors next to the Little Theatre, catering to the Rochester downtown community's grocery shopping needs.
