Ge Garden must be the most famous private garden in Yangzhou City. It has Shouyi Garden, built during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), as its predecessor and was later rebuilt as a private garden in 1818 during the Qing Dynasty.

He Garden, also known as Ho Family Garden or Jixiao Mountain Villa, is famed as the top private garden of the late Qing Dynasty (1644 - 1911). Located at No. 66 Xuningmen Street, Yangzhou, Jiangsu, it was built on the original site of the Double Locust Garden. The once private garden has now become a national 4A-rated tourist site, and attracted many ancient architecture lovers.
The garden was the private residential yard of the He Family, a notable family and great clan in Yangzhou. It was built by He Zhidao, an official of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty. He resigned in 1883 and set up business in Yangzhou. He then bought the ancient site of Wu’s Sliced Stone Mountain Villa, and enlarged it into a big garden for his family. Construction lasted 13 years.

Ge Garden is a outstanding representative of the private gardens of Southern China. During the reign of the Emperor Jiaqing of the Qing Dynasty, Huang Zhiyun, a well-known salt merchant, expanded the Shouzhi Garden built during the Ming Dynasty into a large private garden. He was very much fond of bamboo. Thus, bamboo was widely planted in the garden.

This video was created to fulfill my Gilman Scholarship Proposal Project. The Study Abroad in China was from Brooklyn College from May 31st – June 28th 2017 with a total of 28 students and 2 professors. The more students there are, the more classes are offered. This time around 2 classes were offered: Beginner Chinese and Development of the Silk Road. This Study Abroad program visited 7 different cities in China: Beijing, Xi’an, Nanjing, Suzhou, Huangshan and Shanghai.

The are plenty of major attactions including the famous Slender West Lake, Dongguang street and Geyuan Garden.

Yangzhou, jardin Geyuan

La ville abrite quatre fameux jardins dont le Jardin de GeYuan, typique des jardins résidentiels du sud du delta du Yangtsé, en Chine.
Ce jardin, en particulier, se distingue par son concept des roches saisonnières et ses plantations de bambous.

Yangzhou is not only a scenic city with beautiful scenery, but also a cultural city with a rich cultural heritage and a historic museum city with a long history. There are the oldest canals in China, the tombs of Emperor Hansong, the ancient city ruins of Tang and Song Dynasties, the private gardens of Ming and Qing Dynasties, numerous human landscapes, beautiful natural scenery, rich tourism resources, and many years of attracting a large number of Chinese and foreign tourists.
In 1998, Yangzhou was awarded the title of the first batch of China's outstanding tourist cities.
